Hi, 1. Some of the U.S. and Texas still does not have local 911. If anyone on a Reunion notice mailing list in an area undergoing change, may find themselves in an area with changing addresses- same or different mail routes , matching local 911 maps. A Reunion mailing without first class mailing stamp may be tossed in the trash. Some of Erath County towards Lipan has changed in last 10 years. Be sure of your mailing lists by sending notices first class and returns will tell you whose was not deliverred. 2. KRLD Dallas today had a special talk short repeated twice about Wireless and High Speed Internet long Distance providers. They may not be going through your local 911 provider. Check your bill to see if it is listed. or Check Google Windows relating to the subject. A Couple in Dallas were recently shot in their home- the dad screamed for his daughter upstairs to call 911. Their Long Distance service was through a high speed wireless, not local, Cut rate system and a company operator picked it up back East but could not figure out where they were. A call on such service may not go to a local connection to local fire or police . Ask someone besides your Bargain provider- This could be one reason they are cheaper. Take care Charles A. yly
Hi, My great Grandfather Scipio Africanus Pryor moved to Ar. from Tennessee, purchasing land in Benton County Ak. He gave $1.50 cents an acre in 1843 later purchased more land to become a large farmer and cut and moved trees and carried them to Hope Ak. That is where my Grandfather first saw my Grandmother, he said as they were interring Hope that he saw a pretty young red headed lady hanging out clothes and decided he was going to see her on the way out. Her father let her talk to him on the porch. He told his father that he was coming back someday and "marry that pretty little red head," and he did. He John R. Pryor came to Texas and settled in Erath County, near Bunyan. Building a pole fence and a dugout to live in later he met my Grandmother in Hll County and they got Married, moved to Bunyan and lived in the dugout. Later on building the farm house. Both died in the Bunyan Community and are burried in the Bunyan Cemetery. Thanks for your reply, Wayne Pryor
Thanks for the added information, It may have helpd me some on my Grandmother, (Henry) Pryor. As you know sometimes a pig finds an acorn Tyler Pryor
Hi, Mom was born in Hope Arkansas , 1901 to Henry Carey and Nancy Elizabeth Hipp Carey. grandparents from Clinton, S.C. were Charles Madison Hipp and Sarah Copeland, both were in Arkansas before 1900. My present Doctor is a Pat Pryor. and his Nurse Doctor's Assistant or Nurse Practicioner N.P. Mrs. Herzog,. she is a cousin to the Hoelschers of Selden Dairy which used to be Hatchett , Kay and Wyly land. . Let me check farther, I think some Pryors are on the Stone- Hipp- Copeland-Harrison- Carey -Hipp - Ramage family tree. Mom and her sister Ada Carey Hatchett were babies when grandma brought them to Huckaby from Hope, Arkansas. Grandad came first in a wagon with a Bingo eyed dog, a pump organ, a milk cow, and a trunk and stove. He stayed with his cousin James T. Stone at Huckaby before moving the family to Pea Ridge then Oak Dale, then Valley Grove, then to a 2 sory house on Selden Hatchett land on the Little Duffau. Grandad said he came on a Pig Trail- I thought he meant dodging east Texas swamps . I mentioned this to a Harrison in Mena, Arkansas and he said he suspected that he and others over the years came from Hope to Harrison and nashville and Mena Arkansas, , then down the Prehistoric Pig Trail following the Ouashita Mountain Ridge for 45 miles, then west of Broken Bow, Oklato the low water crossing of Red River near Paris, Texas then south towards Stephenville or Waco, missing most of Dallas. No swamps by that route. One of the Hipps farmed near Cranfils Gap, Texas and another retired from his family neighborhood grocery store in Temple, texas in 1980's. The Hipp Family History is on the Interned from Dutch Fork German Hipps of North Carolina to Arkansas to Texas. Ramages were connected to Grace Ramage Livingston of Arkansas,a Carey- Stone cousin, and some Ramages settled in Black Stump Valley between Duffau and iredell, or Chalk Mountain and Hico. Other Hipps are in Lubbock, Texas from Arkansas and 7 Hipp Brothers live in San Antonio area. 6 are School teachers. Ring any bells? Charles A. Tom, Sounds great and what kind of price is the fellow asking? Guess I could call for myself but figured I'd ask you first. Do you have roots in Hamilton/Earth County? I was born in Hamilton County at the Dr. C.C. Cleveland Clinic (no longer a clinic) that's on Hwy. N. 281. It's always making contact with Hamilton County folks. Tom, guess I don't know whaqt a mug book is related to genealogy. I am sick as a dog with allergies, and not doing much more than tying a knot and hanging on. Hello, My addled brain can not remember the site on which we can search for the land claims? I am looking for the record of an ancestor's land claim for 1836 war service? Help please???? Thanks, Susan Roberts
I went to the Williamson County Genealogical Society annual seminar in Round Rock Saturday, where Books & Things was one of the vendors. I bought a copy of Central Texas History & Biographies of Bosque, Brown, Comanche, Erath,Hamilton, Hood, & Somerville [sic.] Counties. This is a two-volume set published by The Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, in 1896. This is one of many such books, sometimes called mug books, published in the late 1800s. The copy I bought was copied from the original and distributed by County Publications, P.O. Box 331573, Fort Worth, Texas 76163, with indexes copyrighted in 1983 by Weldon I. Hudson. County Publications is owned by the Books & Things dealer. The representative, Pat Gordon, told me that Mr. Hudson is no longer in business, and County Publications reprints all of Hudsons publications for him. This includes the three-volume Cemetery Inscriptions of Erath County, Erath County Census Records (1860-1870), Marriage Records 1869-1891, and Marriage Records 1891-1900. That is the kind of program I was talking about. The service costs money and, in Texas, was paid for by the state. Last year and again this year, the state is not including the cost in the state budget. Last year, genealogists in Texas picked up the slack and pledge enough to save the program. We need to do it again this year. It seems that libraries in several states are losing federal funding and cutting out HertiageQuest? The Godfrey library is not a public library, so federal budget cuts will not cause them to give up Heritage Quest. If Virginia cuts HertiageQuest out, I will sign up at the Godfrey library. ----- Original Message ----- From: MCTenn@aol.com To: TXERATH-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 12, 2005 11:26 PM Subject: Re: [ERATH] TEXSHARE DATABASE/Godfrey Library Most libraries offer Heritage Quest to the people to access from home as long as they have a library card from their library FREE of charge, atleast they do in Oklahoma and Tennessee.
