    3. Thanks for answering. I have ties in Erath County through my husband's grandfather. He was born in Duffau Texas. His name was Homer J. McElroy. His father was Jackson Harmon (Jack) McElroy. Homer's mother-in -law was Mary E. Crane Partee. 3. Hi Joy Thanks for answering my email. My Leonard V. Crane could have been from anywhere. He was a rambling man and sort of a shady character, from what I have heard. He married Arkansas Sapp, she is buried in Ellis County, I have found her grave, but I have no idea where he is buried. He had a daughter that married a Deatherage. She is buried in Maypearl Texas, Ellis county. The last Census I have found for him is1920 Ellis County, he was living with a grandaughter by the last name of Cottingame. Does any of this ring any bells for you? 3. Hi Callie None of those names sound familiar, but I will dig out the old gedcom and see. The Crane name is my married name, and when my husband died I quit working on his family about 2 years ago. I don't think that they ever stayed very far from Hopkins Co. though. That is where most of the old times are buried. I do have connections to Erath Co. though, my Bybee's are there, at least 2 of them are. I have a GGgrandfather and one of his sons buried at Dublin. I will get back with you on the Crane's though Joy Callie Waits <calliewaits@digitex.net> wrote: Hi Joy Thanks for answering my email. My Leonard V. Crane could have been from anywhere. 3. Sorry ...this is not exactly a genealogy question but I figure someone on the list will be able to answer my question. Can someone please tell me if the small rock and wood building south of Stephenville near the Hwy 6 (toward Alexander) cut off is an old mill or a "spring house"? It's on the west side of 281 just off the highway ...easy to see from the road. I have a photo I can email if anyone needs to see exactly what I'm talking about. It's probably the subject of one of my next paintings but I'd like to know exactly what it is that I'm painting. I only took the photo from the road ...I always hate to go onto someone's property without permission. Thanks, Kathy Tate

    3. Bryan was a student in Walnut Springs when I was Principal. His mom taught the 7 and 8 th grade. His dad had a farm across the Steele Creek from Charles Pettit's Flat Top Ranch, near the East Bosque. Mr. Pettit's son in law Major Long, owned the Rough Creek Ranch. Bryan has written a few books and articles while teaching in Glen Rose. There is a Sowell Ranch across the Brazos and downstream from Eulogy- Brazos Point, a few miles down the Goatneck road in Johnson County near the Kimball Bend Rock store remains on the old Chisholm Trail Crossing. (Actually the McCoy Trail- The Chisholm Trail actually starts at a Red River Port, and goes through Yukon, Okla, To Abilene , Kansas, and Texas Trail and McCoy Trails were the Texas extension- but north of Red River it was blazed by Jesse Chisholm, Sam Houston's Friend to run his Ox Cart Freight united from the river port to where he builf his store south of Abilene, Kansas and he supplied some Government Reservations with merchandise, BUT HE NEVER DROVE CATTLE- That was John Chisholm of Paris, Texas and Concho vamlley- only he drove his East to West and he and John Wylie saw Goodnight- Loving drovers carry their cattle down to the Pecos then up to Colorado. ). Texas Chain Gang Prisoners built a 2 story Sowell Ranch HQ many years ago, It is connected to cellars built on and under a Rock ridge. I do not know all the Sowell Connections. Have you yet driven past the Flat Top Ranch creek to the Flat Top Mountain and across cattle guards into the Antelope pasture? Antelope can jump straight out or straight up, but not across a cattle guard or fence. I went out on one of the Walnut Springs Fire Trucks to fight an out of control grass and Cedar fire near Flat Top Mountain. Trucks also came from Morgan, Glen Rose, Cleburne,Iredell and Stephenville and others. . I helped some on the Stephenville truck- they were short handed for anyone to rest. They would try to contact Stephenville by Fire Dept Radio- but were getting a skip to Comanche Fire Dept, who was relaying the messages back to Stephenville. Trucks were ignoring County line and just trying to stop the fire. The Antelope and Deer will line up on foot of Flat Top and look over the fence and hill at those silly Hunter men down in the Creek bottom in a Tree Stand. They ignored us driving by unless we stopped and maid much noise. Eva, I still do not have my copy of the H. Grady Perry Book back - thought I had 2 coming.
