    2. I found this family on District 10 of Bosque County, Texas in 1880. This is a description of District 10: Beginning on W. bank of N. Bosque River, at crossing of Gatesville & Hamilton Roads. N.W. along Hamilton Road to county line S.E. on County line to crossing of Gatesville road, N.E. along said road to crossing of Neils Creek. Town of Neils Creek to N. Bosque River, up said river to beginning. There are several Norwegian sounding names on the page with them so I am guessing that District 10 is in the vacinity of Clifton. John J. Wright, 29, AL, AL, AL Sally Wright, 20, WI, Norway, Norway William B. Wright, 2, TX, AL, WI George W. Wright, 1, TX, AL, WI I can send you a copy of the census page if you would like it. In Bosque County, there is this marriage record: Wright, Jacob to Barker, Sallie - 5 Feb 1877. They might or might not be the couple you seek. 2. Carol Not sure if this will help, but have you looked in Hamilton County, right next to Erath County? In the Turnbow cemetery (Erath County) there are some descendants of William Wright, born 7 Sept 1840 in Alabama, died 4 July 1940, buried Carlton, Hamilton County, Texas. He married Naomi Elizabeth Coppland, born 18 May 1850 in Alabama and died 7 Feb 1935, buried Carlton, Texas. One of the descendants is a member of our cemetery association and has a lot of old family photo's. If you think there might be a connection, e-mail me at my address and I will let you know how to get into touch with him. Like me, time is not creeping up on him, its at a full gallop. 3. Thanks Nan but neither were the correct Wright. I did find out that Jakie's first name was John. So anyone there in Erath that has information on a John Jacob Wright (1849 - Alabama), wife Cerena (1859 - Norway) and 7 children: William Robert (1877), Lillian Margaret (1882) Downs, Clarence Ulysses (1885), Thomas Silas (1888), Mary Lee (1893) Masters, John Franklin (1895 - Erath Co., TX) and Effie Josephine (1897) Jones it would be appreciated. 3. My grandfather John Franklin Wright was born in Erath Co. on April 1, 1895. His father went by Jake or Jakie and was born in Alabama (1849). His mother went by Cerena, she was born in Norway (1859). At the time of his birth, he had three brothers: William Robert (1877), Clarence Ulysses (1885) and Thomas Silas(1888). He had two sisters: Lillian Margaret (1882), Mary Lee(1893). Does anyone have the 1890 and 1900 census for Erath. I am not sure if my g-grandparents were in Erath Co. the five years previous or after my grandfathers birth. I do know that they are both buried in Hobbs, Fisher Co., Texas, Jakie died in 1919 and Cerena died in 1938. Thanks for any help. 3. Will try to load my Fort Worth Star Telegram clipping of the Oak Dale School, a Mr. McElroy was a teacher, and my Stone, Carey, Bailey cousins and many other families I recognize from High School are pictured and named , as were all students present that day. The photo is of Student body in front of Oak Dale School. Wasn't also used by some churches at first? Photo looks like a Church standing under Ed Sullivan's Dairy and across the highway. first, I have to find the article and then scan it, as I have the time. You might find it in Star Telegram archives in downtown Fort Worth or in Arlington State University archives of the Star Telegram on a Google Search window. . It was in a section called West Texas Pioneers. I ned to upgrade-your computer has more than 128 Megs and above 20 gigs, you may find it before I do. My copy was in Mom's scrapbook. 3. Callie, Can you tell me about your McElroys? My grandmother is buried in Huckaby, Erath Co., TX. She died in 1895. She was Sarah Elizabeth York McElroy, married to Jacob Silas McElroy. Elizabeth died, leaving six children, my father, Lester L McElroy, being seven years old, and two young than he. Jacob had held several jobs I was told. He had taught school, he was a carpenter (built coffins), and also a surveyor for the county. They moved several times, so do not know what he worked at in Erath Co. I understand that a W R Tucker family lived near my family and helped take care of the children. The children were Walter Edgar (ED), Mabel Mae, Nellie G, Lester Lafayette, James Hubert, Oscar Lee (Pat) McElroy. I will appreciate any help. 3. The one I'm looking at is not a cabin ...it's right on the bank of that little creek. In fact, the lower part probably goes down to where the water is or once was. Going south on 281, it's on the right *just* before Hwy 6. Guess I've missed the cabin ...will have to look next time I'm down there. 3. The newer St. Olaf's is in the Gap. Guess you have read the Waco and Meridian and Clifton newspapers about the misterious organ music in the old Church by the cemetery, still used for funerals. Seems some out at night have heard the organ playing, but no one was found inside. The one that surprised me was a photo in the Bosque County Museum in Clifton, of a Norwegian Seventh Day Adventist Church and Norwegian names are listed as members. This could cause confusion to a Geneaologist. I think it was between Cranfils Gap, Searsville, and Clifton. Searsville Factory in 1960's was remounting old school bus bodies on new Truck frames. I drove one some . Much cheaper than buying a new bus from Mississippi Factories. 3. Jess Sapp lived in Walnut Springs across from the old School buildings and between our house and the school.he and wife grew a large garden after he retired. Their daughter was a Counselor in Robinson School near Waco .He had other children. He told us he had been a heavy smoker when farming and one day decided it was hurting him, and quit , Cold Turkey. He also warned me of the Brazos Point- Five Oaks- Goatneck road, east side of the Brazos where outsiders could get too curious (During Bootleging days) or take a Rest room stop and cross a fence. Some had been found dead over the years as "Deer Hunting Accidents" - in or out of season. Problem was, he warned us after we had driven through the area and past the Sowell Ranch.and across the Brazos at Kimbell Bend and back to Walnut Springs, often called "Peaceful Valley" when someone was in a humorous mood. Hard to leave a trail in Lake Whitney. Charles Wyly On Sun, 3 Apr 2005 12:19:48 -0500 "Callie Waits" <calliewaits@digitex.net> writes: > Hi Joy > Thanks for answering my email. My Leonard V. 3. Send me the photo. Sounds like part of the old Burks Bird Farm of 1940-50's. House was over the hill from 281. How far from the house with the island in thetank or pond near Dufau Road from 281. I think it had some sort of small building on it for picnics or whatever. 3. Right Charles, they settled around clifton, cranfills gap and built churches. the old church at cranfills gap is still there next to the cemetery, with no bathroom, lol. My son was married in that church. Its a lovely old church. and at one time a prince came from norway to see all the settlers. eva ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charles A.
