Hi, please read below and tell me if you know anything about "Shug" Maxwell, who lived between Selden and Johnsville with his grandad , appx. 1920's. Thomas Hudspeth and his grandparents were on same land on Old Texas -U.S. dirt Hwy 67. There was a low water crossing off this road into Uncle Lewis Wyly's land. Dad used to throw his wagon wheels in the pool there to soak and tighten the rims on the wood felloes and Spokes, before harvest time. Tom Hudspeth and wife had an old Atwater Kent Radio before dad got one. The road was on the abandoned steel Rail bridge between Hoelscher (Glen Kay) land and the old Clem Evans place, across the present road from John Kay land , which hits new Hwy 67 near there old Crockett School location. The land was also near Ned Gristy and George Carey rent place. and about a mile north of Wyly Dairy on Duffau Road which Commisioner Roy Fallin built and paved after he left the Seabees, built partially with money earned subcontracting on Fort Worth Highway construction, before Contractors, some local, got a bill through the Texas legislature which makes it illegal to use County equipment on completive Contracts or inside a City limits. George Carey's rent land where Truett grew up was between dad's farm andHudspeth land. The old Road was Selden- Johnsville School boundary. Lost yet? Charles A. Hello Armenta. Welcome. Your name is similar to a name in my mother's family. She had an aunt that was named Mary Ametter. Think the young ones called her Aunt Rhett. Not sure of the Rhett spelling, just how it sounds. You never know how people are going to pronounce a name it seems. Mary Ametter Pledger married Ben Thorald Williams, 1871, Hill Co., TX. She was a sister to my grandmother, Eliza Jane Pledger McKinney. The Williams moved to Garvin Co., OK after all their children were born. Some remained in Hill Co I believe. Congratulations to your dad! Hello Armenta Thanks for answering my letter, You have a very pretty and different name. I thought I would give it shot, you never know what you will find during genealogy research. I knew it was a long shot, but all I had to lose, was time writing, all you could do was say yes or no, I knew you couldn't bite me. I am glad you told me your name, as I happen to correspond with a wonderful lady in Arizona, who is from Oklahoma. Her name is Patsy Akers her husband is Randy Akers. We are both researching the Waits-- Cupp line. Tell your 101 year old father, "Congratulations! hang in there, the best is yet to come." Very nice of you to take time to answer me. Hello to all; Just trying my wings here, and to say that the "Armenta" daughter of William King is not me. I have found my name listed all over the South through many generations, but spelled many different ways other than the way Mother spelled mine. She was reading a Western Novel and found this name. She thought it was pretty and would be different to all the other "kid's" around this area, Murray Co, OK. On researching the name it is an Aristicratic one of the Spain Spanish. Napoleon spelled it the same but he pronounced it Armentha because of a lisp. I have many Ancestor's from far away places that came through Texas before getting to the Indian Territory. I will be talking about them a little later after I am familiar with the Erath area and other's on the site. And, I want to say Hello to Charles Wyly and Jerry Coffee. I love their stories and we share some kinfolk here and there and our families were associated in the Civil War and other battles in the 1700 and 1800's. I sometimes think I am Kin to everyone. My name is Armenta Akers, McWethey. I was born here and still live in Dougherty, Murray Co., OK. I retired from doing "little round numbers" in 2000 and have enjoyed every minute. My parent's are Johnnie Oscar Akers born in Foster, Garvin Co., I T and Alta Mae Hale born in Birta, Yell Co., AR. She died April 19, 2004, and is buried with her Robinson / Hale family at Nebo-Drake Cemetery near here. My father is still living. He was 101 January 17, 2005. Armenta....

In my genealogy search I've come across the name of Tom Rogers who might have information on my Edmonds line. Does anyone know how I can contact this gentleman? Thanks, Clyde Edmonds
The Erath County Genealogical Society will be meeting this coming Saturday, April 16th at 2pm at the Dublin Public Library. Dr. Ken Jones will be speaking on "Adoptive Genealogy".
There were two bill introduced by Hilderbran in the House, HB1011 and HB1012 this session. They would have strengthened the protection of abandoned cemeteries (HB1011)and increased the penalties for vandalism of cemeteries (HB1012). HB1011 has moved from Committee (4/5/05) but HB1012 is still languishing in the Criminal Jurisprudence committee. We need both these bills. You might want to contact your representatives and keep them moving particularly HB1012.
