I recently got an email from Curtis and his wife Fern. They were able to call my grandfather while he is staying with my parents and I believe they had a good visit. She also mentioned that they have gotten historic designation for the cemetery but are still working on getting the marker. I don't think soit's Georgia and Bentley. Their 2 sons are Jim and John. They were in Monahans but moved out to Ft. Stockton after their kids got out of school. No Ratliff's. There is a story about Mr. L.B. Anderson of Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas. He was born in Amite County, Mississippi on March 24, 1849. The story talks of the trip from Mississippi to Texas and his cattle driving experiences after arriving. There is also a small piece written by W.P. Anderson who was a Railroad agent at Abilene, Kansas in the late 60's (1860's) and had to do with the first shipments of cattle out of that place. It begins with "In reference to Mr. Goodnights allusion to my blazing the trail for the Joe McCoy herd...... Let me know if any of these Anderson's let me know and I'll scan them up for you. Hi,Andersons of Anderson 640 Ranch and Anmderson Steam powered thresher lived near Johnsville, some in Duffau and Plainview. I attended school with Clinton and Dewqayne Anderson. Bordner Anderson was a childhood friend and some of his family are buried in Selden Cemetery, including a Cornett and a Hammic or Hammack who were Hatchett Kin. Before these Andersons left Illinois their name was Andersen- The German spelling. Rigs families of Waco and Erath County came rom Illinois to Erath County about the same time as did the Andersens. Ratliffs were Cattle truckers and traders in 1920-1940 era. Charles A. I haven't posted in awhilebeen busy with my 2 kids. Anyway, I had a WONDERFUL experience. I got to see my Grandpa, Tullie Herring, for a few days. He is 98? now and still has fairly decent hearing and a good memory. I got him telling me stories - like when he and Grandma Clara got married in a cotton field in Erath County for $2, and when he got 3 of his toes run over by a train down in Willis, Tx. Anyway, my mother has her Thornton trilogy being re-published. Cindy knows about these books - it's the story of the Daniel and Mary Anna Thornton settling into Erath County. They should be on sale any time now - they are in a set of 4 called "Texas Dreams" and you can find them in Christian bookstores as well as WalMart. Oh, and her name is Linda Herring. Take care! Tx., married Lamora Elizabeth Herring, daughter of Mark Herring and Malissa Francis Hightower. All of these were early settlers of Morgan Mill area. I have heard many stories about them, and would love to hear more stories. What I really want to find is a book that was probably written in the late 1950's about 'old time cowboys'. A young man came to Ft. Worth, Texas and interviewd "Pappy" Huckabee about his life as a real cowboy as a young man before and about the turn of the century ( late 1800's and early 1900's). I was there when the young man came for the interview but I didn't get his name or who he was from. And I did not hear the interview. If anyone knows the name of the book etc, I would be ever so grateful to know this and where I can get a copy. I have heard that "Pappy" actually was on trail drives on the Chisholm and Goodnight trails. I would like to have this story for our grandchildren and no one in the family seems to know who it was that was writing the story. Thanks for any help... dh ______________________________Date: Fri, 20 May 2005 18:35:59 EDT From: TYLERPRYOR@aol.com To: TXERATH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ERATH] Huckabee/Herring/Hightower dh, I used to live in Morgan Mill and knew Avry very well, although I was much younger.
