    2. Barbara Ann Peck
    3. Hi, Everyone! We have added a new link on our "Link YourSelf" subpage of our "Self Portraits" site at http://www.selfroots.com. It is the first link in the section for Genealogy Links (about halfway down the page). The link leads to "WPA Life Histories from Texas" which provides "mostly first-person accounts of life in Texas collected during the Great Depression." These are extremely interesting biographies that really give you a feel for life in Texas in those difficult times. >From the Texas page you can also link to WPA Life histories in other states. Please go to our site and check it out. You'll really enjoy spending time there. Barbara seawolf@selfroots.com http://www.selfroots.com

    1. [ERATH] Brock & Acker
    2. Joseph Gentry
    3. Hi! Researchers I am in need of information on the ancestors of my maternal grandparents. William Lawrence Brock married Elizabeth Victoria Acker, May 27 1885 in (Erath) TX. His father was (according to his death Cert) James Marion Brock he's the elusive one. We have nothing on him after the 1860 census of (Franklin) GA showing him and his three sons Christopher, Pinkney and William Lawrence. The guessing of this is that the Brock family moved from (Franklin) to (Erath). The Ackers moved from Rusk (Cherokee) TX to (Eastland). That is basically all I have, any and all information will be appreciated. Joe Gentry jgentry@texas.net

    1. [ERATH] Reply ASAP - Willing to do cemetery lookups
    2. Janice Curtis
    3. I am about to go off and see about doing some cemetery surveys. Mom (Janice) is off camping, or she'd be joining me I'm sure. Guess I'll drag my 6 and 8 y/o kids along...heck, they find fun in anything! :-D What I want to offer is this. If anyone has a specific lookup, in a specific cemetery, I will see what I can do. If I can find my Mom's camera (mine is broke right now), I can take photos of the grave at cost (gas, film, developing, and postage etc.) We want to get to working on cemetery indexes, and be able to offer to take photos of the graves for folks who can't get to this area. Just let me know ASAP, because I am going to get started this afternoon on it. Of course, I may not decide to bug someone on a Sunday afternoon for permission to survey the cemetery if it is on private property. Doesn't seem right somehow. I am at my Mom's house right now (she has all the Erath Co. page files here) and will be going home soon, so be sure to CC any replies to: mailto:annette@erath.net Put ERATH CEMETERY LOOKUP in the subject line, so I don't miss it. Hope to hear from some of you. Sorry, I know this is last minute, but after I got off work at 7am, I just got to itching to do something productive. Too bad I'm not productive on my housework.... ;-) This is more fun! What I'd give to do lookups 8 hours a day, 5 days a week instead of work... We will be going again soon to do more, so if you don't get this out in time today, please send your requests anyways. We'll get to it "eventually" (our middle name ;-) Annette Erath Co. 1. [ERATH] Oxford Clan
    2. I want to think all the nice people who have answered my Oxford Plea. My R. L. (Lee) Oxford is found in the 1900 census of Erath Co. with Wife Fannie (Pope). Lee was born in 1865 in Ga. There are two sons William Lamin born 1887 GA and Walter Born 1890 in Ga. The family story goes that R. L. was killed by a man named Trammell. Walter avenged the death by killing the Trammell fellow. I suppose the family left the county for this reason. They show up in Hot Springs Ark by 1908. I have a picture of the two young men dated 1908 saying on the back that it was taken in Hot Springs. I believe the mother Fannie had and aunt or aunts living in Hot Springs, Garland Co. at that time. Which could account for that choice. Does anyone having Trammell connections remember a story like that? Are there archives at the newspaper or library where there might be a record of this event? Who were R. Ls. parents. What connection did he have to the Oxfords living in Erath at the time. They were mostly decendents of Able Oxford from Washington Co. Fayetteville and Goshen Arkansas area. I am just full of questions. Thanks again for everyones help. I still need more answers. Marcene Oxford
