I've just posted online a GEDCOM of my three ancestral families who came to Erath County: ROBERSON (arrived 1859), RAGSDILL (arrived 1859) and LONG (arrived ca. 1874). The GEDCOM traces all of these lines back to their original roots in South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi (Roberson), Tennessee and Arkansas (Ragsdill) and North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama (LONG) and also takes the lines of some of the families they intermarried with back a few generations. Follow this link to go to the complete index of surnames: http://members.aol.com/ftp4genes/hettie/surnames.htm In addition to ROBERSON, RAGSDILL and LONG, other Erath and surrounding counties surnames covered include: Hollis, (LOTS of Hollis info) Keahey (* found 'em!), Stone, Montgomery, Wolfe, Allard, Sumrall, Elliott, Roberts,Burnett, Green, Rhodes, etc etc. I just uploaded this and had to do a lot of manual changes to links because of problems with the software generating the html, so if any links don't work, e-mail me and I'll fix them! All the best, Kathryn Coombs
Mr Wyly, I have found my Danner family line, and would be interested in anything you might recall about Danners, if you don't mind. Thanks, Walter Moore
Hi all~~~Just looking for any GILLENTINE info (even the small stuff ~~~ sometimes that leads to large stuff). Only one GILLENTINE came to the Americas, so all are descended from him. My goal is to have a large database with as many of Nicholas Gillentine's ancestors as possible for others to connect with. Could you please check your databases for me. Thanks, I appreciate it greatly. ~~~dee

Usual story of it being rumored she was Indian..but denying it. I would have given up except somehow I wound up with a picture of an Indian girl, her sister and a baby. On the back it says 'this is Ma' and that she was Creek Indian. There is noooo date on the back....apparently one of the children was Pawnee and the other Mexican/Indian mix. I believe this to be my Grandma Rebecca Holland(Bean). She lived in Enid OK..having died there in 1950..she was born in AL in 1850. This is driving me bonkers...I KNOW she wants to be found...but I can't find her. I did locate her in an 1870 census of Grayson Co. while she was 19 and still with her daddy James Holland.(I know nothing about him except a name). His wife was named Samantha and there were three children with the last name of BRAMLETTE living with him....I figure that Samantha is his second wife...but don't know.... I know I sound confused...I AM...<G>can anyone guide me on where to look? My mother has BLACK hair...I was told that true black hair is an Indian feature? As a child my Mom looked definate Indian. Mr. Wyly ..... what a pleasure it is to read your memories first hand ... you are a joy to have around. My family stems from the Ross's ( yes all the preachers), the Lee's and the Franklins ... they all floated in and out of Erath and Comanche County up until the late 50's. Tami Ramsey Dublin, VA

Hi, May add to your confusion- will try to shed a little light on your request. Oldham County, Texas is west of Amarillo. The present county seat is Vega, 658 people. The old county seat was old Tascosa, the historic cattle town. Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch was started with the old Tascosa courthouse as the first dorm. It is still slightly rolling ranch country on the Canadian River. Vega is beautiful flat Irrigated country when anything is growing. Elton Wyly did live there- a descendant of Capt. Alfred Henderson Wyly, with Sam Houston at San Jacinto. Concerning Higginbothams, I believe the Corporate offices of Higginbotham Lumber , Hardware, and in the past some International Harvester dealerships is still in Comanche, Texas. The Higinbotham store is across the street facing the court house and the historic log house. We traded with Paul Higginbotham in Stephenville. He had clothing, shoes, and hardware next door. The first Farmall dealership was in the front of the lumber yard paint building, They had the old cables with cups hanging from rollers. To make change, the clerk gave a rope a sharp pull and the cup went flying up the cable to the cashier in a second story balcony office. The change came back in the cup. Grandad bought his first tractor - a 1936 BLUE (not red or Gray) F-12 farmall with red wheels from them It is still sitting on the Selden farm. Later they moved the tractors and trucks to a new building on Fort Worth Hiway. The county courthouse annex is now in the old corner location on the square. Paul fought widening the hiway through town- he was afraid the people would not slow down and shop. I heard dad tell him if he didn't quit fighting wider streets, the State would build a loop around the town. They did. The Funeral home was in the back of the hardware store- separate entrance.Ewell Jones ran it over 1/2 of my life. , a brother to Azalee Little. . It is now on the South Loop and is now Stephenville Funeral Home. I think Higginbotham Burial insurance is still in Comanche offices. Cross Plains and several other towns had a Higginbotham's . Cross Plains is nearly like the origionals. On the High Plains or Staked Plains there were a bunch of Higginbotham- Bartlett building materials stores and yards. A store manager told me, when I contracted to Discover card, that were thee same family ownership as the ones I knew, Don't know if Comanche office ran them too or not. Someone in the county office or in the Vega courthouse might could answer questions or point to someone who could. Dear Mr. Wyly: Thanks for the information. The Double Mountain area I am referring to is near Patillo, right along the Erath/Hood/Palo Pinto line. I know there was a Double Mountain school in that area as I have seen the school records. I've driven by and the "Mountains" look like two little hills to me, but coming from California my point of reference is the Sierras. I am enjoying your great stories and information. What a great resource you are! Diane Stavenhagen Kadletz charles a Wyly wrote: > > Correction and Addition- > > I said Conroe this A.M. I meant Jasper. Looking for information on John Sinclair family of Dublin, Texas. John is the son of a Duncan or D.A. Sinclair. John, who was originally from North Carolina, married Marth Hannan of Georgia and migrated with his wife and his brothers to Arkansas then Texas. John's children were Oran, Fannie, Oscar Samuel (my ancestor known as Bud), Cora, and the last was Lou a girl. John Sinclair with his brothers Jim, George, and Arch opened a sawmill, grist mill, cotton gin, commissary and stage coach depot at Dublin, Texas circa 1840's-1850's. John's family and his father, Duncan, moved to Arkansas in 1860-1861. Duncan died in Ark. circa 1866 and is buried there. The county of his burial is unknown at this time. John and his family moved back to Texas circa 1866-1867. Would like to know any additional information if available on members of this Sinclair family. Sincerely, Jerry Sinclair
Correction and Addition- I said Conroe this A.M. I meant Jasper. When you stay in Camp Polk over a year (La, ) all the cities near Orange blend together. Concerning Bradford- I go to church in Hewitt with a Bob Bradford- he is a Deacon, was at Western Heights church in Waco before Hewitt. He is a Gideon, I think He , since retirement drives Hearses and is a part time Funeral host. His wife is retired from Waco School. Will see him tomorrow and give him your note. Now . for Double Mountains, if you mean the Double Mountains in Fisher and/or neighboring county- between Albany and Snyder, Between Roby and Sweetwater which give the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos, it is not in Erath County, but the Erath County sheriff and Rev. John R. Baylor and his Central Texas Rangers (Sometimes bordering on Vigilante action), in another group, not with the sheriff, led posses past Snyder to the Caprock before counties west of Erath were organized. If you meant Twin Peaks at Willow Springs between Walnut Springs and Meridian, both were RR Towns- that is Bosque County. Erath Records for a year or so after leaving Waco - McLennan County office Many Wyly & Hatchett marriages and land records bear McClennan and/or Bosque County, depends on the year. If anyone knows of any other Double Mountains named so in West Central Texas, please let me know. Am beginning to suspect there was a time when Erath marriages were kept in Bosque County as counties organized- one of Eugene Wyly's kids (dead now), said he married Loudelia Bateman in Breckenridge. His granddaughter found records in Erath County. marriages records. Confused yet" I am.
