    1. [ERATH] SMALLWOOD, ROBERT LEE
    2. Mary Ann & Leonard Joseph
    3. Anyone know Robert Lee Smallwood born in IL in 1864? Married Martha Julia Dansby on May 4, 1887. He died in Stephenville June 13, 1938. Eight children: Thomas Green, Sibyl Ann, Ruth Leola, Talmage Dewitt, Grace Annette, Lafe, Carey and Virginia. Robert came to Texas with is father when he was a young man of twenty (1884). He went back north and stayed a year or two, only to return to Texas to spend the remainder of his life. After marriage, they went to Dublin, where he worked as a carpenter, returning later to Hickey Community where they made their home except for one year when they were located at Hasse. In 1893 he became a member of the Baptist Church and soon afterwards starting preaching for the Oak Grove Baptist Church on Alarm Creek. He was a minister there for many years and was serving as minister of Washington Street Baptist Church in Stephenville, TX at the time of his death. All information from sources and resources welcome. Thanks Mary Ann (Smallwood) Bolton Mililani, HI

    2. Mr. Wyly, You do seem to know a lot about ERATH County. My father was raised there. Odas Blair son of Bez. He as the son of Leroy Jackson "Uncle Bob" as he was known to everyone even his own family. Did I have a time finding him! There are so many of them and I need children, etc. MS doesn't have TX records in fact I don't think they know it exists. Leroy was the son of Hiram in Johnson Co. and he was a Deputy Sheriff in Hood County living near Lipan before he died in 1931. Thanks, Wanda

    3. Hi, You mentioned Walker County. Be some of these records are not in Waller County, northwest of Houston towards Texas A&M. Capt Alfred Henderson Wyly, commander of East Texas Redlanders is buried there. He and his Balch in laws were born Greeneville, Tennessee and were in Henderson, Texas 1836. They were one of the groups which joined Sam Houston at Groce's Crossing the day before Sam Houston turned and defeated Santa Anna at San Jacinto. Other vets of the Texas Revolution are buried in Waller. The Wyly and Balch names are on the bronze plaque in the theatre room of the San Jacinto monument. Santa Anna's army was hungry and out of supplies, thanks to Admiral Moore's Texas Navy and the rebelling Yucatecian Navy cooperating to keep Santa Anna's navy in Vera Cruz Harbor. Sam Houston fought like the Russians, didn't he? I knew some Walkers 50 years ago in Erath County- "Red" Walker, Beulous Walker, and others. Charlie Walker was a neighbor and possibly kin to the Stones of Huckaby. Charlie was a cattle trader and rancher. Think mom said Charlie was one of her distand cousins with Arkansas roots. 3. Mr. Wyly! I have been told you know quite a lot about the history and people of Erath Co. I don't have your email address, so I hope I can reach you through the mailing list. My grandfather (Robert Barker) and grandmother (Cora Walker) were married in Waco on Nov. 25, 1895 and moved to Cow Creek in Erath Co. I think my great grandfather and great grandmother lived in the same area, James and Nancy Barker. My grandmother Cora is said to have died around 1919 in Dublin, and to be buried in an unmarked grave at the Cow Creek Cemetery. My great grandmother is also buried there in a grave with a head stone. I have been trying for so very long to find information on my grandmother and her family. I have looked at all the census, writtin to Erath Co. Courthouse, and posted letters with Walker mailing list and Erath Co. mailing list. Still no luck. I was wondering if you, or any one you know may have information on this family? Do you know how I can research obituaries of Erath Co. from 1918 to 1920, or would you know how I might get school records from Mclennen Co. from 1888 through 1894? The only other information I have is that some part of Coras family came to Texas from Tenn. and that Coras mothers maiden may have been (Ro sh ay) spelling Roche, Rochet, or Rochette. I desperatly need to find more about her and her family. If you know of any thin that might help me I would be very greatful. Thank You William Robert Barker cbarker@tcsn.net

    3. My name is William Robert Barker. I am despretly searching for information about my grandfather Robert Barker,( son of James and Nancy, grandson of William Barker who was in the Army of The Republic during the Battle of San Jacinto) and my grandmother Cora Barker, maiden name Walker. I have contacted county clerks, census records, and other people researching the name Barker and Walker. The only information I have been able to find is the following. Robert Barker born Abt.Oct. 1868 in Walker Co. Texas and died Abt. 1932 in Eastland Co. Texas. Married to Cora Walker in Waco Texas on Nov. 25, 1895. He and Cora moved to Cow Creek in Erath Co. and raised a family. The children's names are as follows. Matie Lue, Rosalie, Jewel, Genoia, Rubie, Pearl, and Robert Lewis Barker aka. Boyd RL Barker. Cora Walker was born I believe in Texas about Feb. 1881, and died about 1919 in Erath or Eastland Co. Texas. I have been unable to find any information such as records of birth or death records. Cora was born to late for the 1880 census, the 1890 census can not be found and the 1900 census shows her married to Robert Barker in Erath County. I believe she is buried in Cow Creek Cemetery, in an unmarked grave in Erath Co. Texas. If you can be of any help, or can think of any where else I can search, I would be very grateful. I can be contacted at the following address. bbarker@tcsn,net

    3. Hi, was reviewing E mail before I download it to a small floppy and free up some megs. Noticed the Gamble and Looney names I had not responded to. I think I taught a Gamble boy or twp in the 1960's in Walnut Springs, High School One was Ronnie Gamble. They would be in Bosque County records and in school records. I knew W.R. Looney. about 60 when I returned from army duty in 1952. I attended Tarleton while laid off from Convair and worked afternoons in Uncle Emmett Carey's shop on HicoRoad near the park. Mr. Looney ran a wrecknig yard and welding shop on U.S. 67 across from the present Sheriff's office and jail. I used to buy used parts from him to repair farm trucks and cars. He always had cash change in his pockets, in rolls of bills. One of his customers was dad's cousin, "Uncle" Ed Hatchett, rancher and on the board of the Farmers First National Bank. Either man in his work clothes sitting in a Dallas park could have been arrested as a vagrant, and we used to speculate which one could buy the other out.Neither was famous for buying a new car every year, but they could have , Depression memories were too strong. Mr. Looney's son Ancil had a shop across South Graham from Uncle Emmett and they used to sometimes borrow specialty tools from each other. Ancil used to tune Uncle Lewis Wyly's International milk pickup . Think the Army had trained him, besides his dad. Most cars were old and the older people had been through a few years of WW2 45 MPH speed limits, which was fast for some rural roads. Ancil and others would pour some casite or transmission fluid through the carburetor after changing plugs and points and take them out the hiway about 60 MPH or so and "Blow the sut out" and they would run much better. Ancil had a brother who had worked with him and for his dad. His dad built trailers and truck hay beds and sold scrap iron, parts, and steel casing and construction iron. Hope this helps some, take care. Charles Wyly On Wed, 12 Aug 1998 10:45:49 -0700 David & Dawn Roberts <djroberts@worldnet.att.net> writes: >Emery GAMBLE married Martha ??.
