    3. Hi, have been thinking about your letter. I know I was a paulbearer for Squire Morga, and think I was for Ira Hurley. As I remember one or both had one set of bearers to the church and another set of Masonic Bearers at the cemetery, where a masonic graveside service was held. Hard to remember teh details of one funeral so close together in a community which had more deaths than births. I definitely remember my wife and I going to their house early in the A.M. to help with household chores and breakfast. Col. Honzie Rodgers was already there making coffee and cooking breakfast. He worketd all day making kin and well wishers welcome, the ones who brought food. He had a ranch towards Iredell. He had married Tom Fair's sister. Tom was Walnut Springs postmaster and had a farm by Honzie's ranch, His sisterand my Aunt Mary Wyly attended nurse's training school together- either at Tarleton otr St. Joseph's in Fort Worth. Squire Morgan lived a block from the Hurleys on same block I lived on. Stories were his older brother J.P. Morgan (???) had managed to obtain Squire's inheritance of the Morgan- Campbell Ranch near Morgan, Texas and his interest in developing some railroads and a steamship or two. Squire and Ira Hurley were large- tall but gentle men. Both loved fishing and gardening. Squire was a poet and some of his poems were read at his funeral, Tthey were better than many published today. . When my daughter ran to tell his widow I got 2 A.s that summer at North Texas State and my M. Ed. degree was complete, she came through the back yard carrying an Ingraham pendolum mantle clock with alarm which she said had been the Morgan family 150 years in 1960's and it was my graduation present. It will still run. Keep this in mind as you select graduation gifts- the gift has value, but the background story is more valuable. She could have sold the clock, but she gave it to someone she knew appreciated it. 3. Bill, So there is another HEAD family? I wasn't sure. I know that Benjamin Wesley and Sarah HEAD are there at Clairette and know a few of the others. My grandfather left me pictures of Oscar Head, Hunt D. Cargill, Bettie and Zebulan Tidwell , Leny, W. W. and Lizzie HEAD's headstones. He also has many references to Mary Cozby, a picture of her headstone and the church in Alexander near her house. I don't know who she is. What do you know about Dora, Jim and Ed? Do you know this family? My grandfather told me a story about my gg-grndfather, Benjamin Wesley Head. Said he shot a man in the stomach with a shotgun at a gin (cotton?) Do you know anything about this? I am also interested in what Charles Wylie said about old Milam Co. I had many relatives that came to Milam Co. Tx in the early 1800s and have not been able to track them down, I'll widen my search. I could read them but haven't been able to answer- it's like loosing ypur voice right when you are trying to talk to someone. It seems that in Jan. I carried the computer to a shop with several workers because neither Juno nor MCI (now CWIX- Cable and Wireless Internet Express and long Distance) would send. Had several late night sessions on MCI long Distance trying to fix computer after the shop failed. I can run the net and search but still MCI won't send. Juno help pages finally said there was a conflict with Juno outside another internet server and the other service, especially MCI- two lines of script have to be added to. Juno to avoid conflicts. I dumpped all addresses and 2 folders and the write and send page healed itself. Tell those of the Clendennin inquiries that they moved to Lingleville to attend the Academy there. Tarleton Academy and College was nort yet part of the Texas A&M system and the Mcilhaney academy and Huckaby's Farmers Grange academy/college had been as popular as Tarleton at first. Some of the Clendennins taught as Principal of the Selden Schools and I think they taught Dad- will send more later when i talk to some of my older cousins in Waco & Erath County . I am just a 70 year old kid who helpped cause the Great Depression- but Erath county folk ate steak, turkey, chicken, pork, wild grapes and plums in all forms of Jellies and jams, syrup and honey from our farms, gardens, orchards, peanuts, corn,Polk salad, Black Haws, pecans, walnuts, fish, watermellons, cantaloupes, pears, sweet and Irish potatoes, Berries, Mustang and Opossum Grapes, squirrel,Cottontail, Jack, and swamp rabbits, and others without having to buy it- just grow , catch, or pick your own wild and farmed. Bee trees could be marked with a brand listed with County Court under State law, and anyone else could not cut it legally. Half the honey went to the land owner. My grandkids think all the above fit to eat comes from HEB Grocery, Kroger's, or United Super. . I managed to work in 2 Degrees and Military and Aircraft (Convair Fort Worth) in while we raised our two kids.I still do substitute teaching in McLennan County. A major source of info on a few thousand European immigrants and Americans moving west is in the old TP Coal and Oil library on the Johnson Ranch in Old Thurber- locked and protected- wish it was all on computer, or at least published for research. Many Czech in Mclennan County and Italian in Falls Counties would fit here. as would some from Newcastle mine near Graham, Texas. Thurber was 10 t0 20 times as large as Stephenville around 1900& before.Stephenville was one of the last towns to get a Railroad in the County. Today Thurber is almost gone- 2 cafes & 3 people to catch the I- 20 traffic and Tarleton kids partying at Mingus, 3 or 4 miles north in Palo Pinto County.
