Salmon. His grandparents were Marcus Lafayette Dowdy Sr. and Elizabeth Sides; Thomas R. Salmon and Martha Ann Green. His middle name very likely was Edwards and his mother's first cousin was Joseph Edwards (1854-1873) who was hung by cattle rustlers as he was the witness to the crimes, as the legend exists. Marcus Lafayette Dowdy Jr. was a brother-in-law of my father as Mark's second wife was the sister to my Dad's first wife. Ed Dowdy was married twice-----(1) Sadie Hardin and later to (2) Duie (sic) whose surname I don't have. I would appreciate anything that you might provide me as to what happened to Ed Dowdy......as most of this family is buried at Clairette Cemetery, but he evidently is not. 1. [ERATH] BLACKWOOD, John Alex(Alec)
    2. I am looking for any and all information on the family of John Alex (Alec?) Blackwood and his second wife Clara... John was born Apr 12, 1895. He died Nov 1969 in Stephenville, Erath County, Texas. He married Clara, possibly in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas between 1928 and 1930. Clara may have been "adopted" so I am not 100% sure of her maiden name. It could be "Moore". John and Clara had three children. Joe was born in 1930 probably in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. Joe was a firefighter and moved to and from Stephenville several times. Joe died in 1984 in Stephenville, Erath County, Texas. Gerald (Jeryll?) was born in Dec 10, 1932 probably in Lubbock. He died in 1990 in Stephenville. Clara Bell was born abt 1934 in Lubbock. About 1937, the family moved to Stephenville from Lubbock. John was a barber and had a little shop just two blocks from the square (across from Jake and Dorothy's restaurant). Joe and Gerald had children, but I have no names or records. Clara Bell went on to marry Bruce Anderson, an enlisted man stationed at a nearby base. They moved to Ft. Worth, Tarrant County and had 4 children: Bruce John, Michael, David and Karen. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Jason Anderson Major Accounts CSD Support Technician Ext. 6-9430 <<...>>

    1. [ERATH] Duffau Cemetery Association
    2. THE ANNUAL MEETING WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, MAY 8TH, AT 11 A.M. AT THE DUFFAU COMMUNITY CENTER. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO BRING A COVERED DISH FOR LUNCH AFTER THE MEETING. After many years of faithful service, Jimmy Ramage relinquished the treasurer's position at the meeting in May 1998 and Wesley Rogers was elected the new treasurer. Jimmy Ramage served as Treasurer of the Association for over 30 years and we are all deeply grateful for his many years of service. Also several changes have happened at the cemetery and its size has more than doubled. Dr. Thomas bought the McCarty place and the new survey of the land revealed that some cemetery land had been fenced into the McCarty place. This land has now been fenced back into the cemetery (about 2 1/2 acres) and the association has purchased approximately 2 1/2 acres from the Wooley's east of the cemetery. The land west of the cemetery has been cleared of the cedars and other brush but a lot of wok still needs to be done before this land is usable for cemetery purposes. The association will need to install a new chain link fence on the east side of the cemetery, remove the existing fence, lay out and gravel roads and lay out grave spaces before this land will be usable. The gravel road in the cemetery has been regraveled and extended in a loop in the southeast part of the cemetery. Work is now underway laying out burial spaces in the existing cemetery areas so the burial spaces will be in better alignment. Please make note that all contributions for the upkeep of the cemetery should now be sent to the new treasurer: WESLEY ROGERS, 977 STEVENS, STEPHENVILLE, TX 76401. ALL OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING WITH MANY OF YOU AT THE MAY 8TH MEETING.

Info below. By the way, our local Stanislaus Genealogical Society had a group of 27 in Salt Lake this week. They phoned within hours of the shooting yesterday to say that they were all safe and back in their motel rooms. I was lucky - I heard they were safe before I learned of the shooting. Some others of us weren't that lucky and had some frantic moments. Regards, Nan ======================================================= According to an MSNBC article on "A Family Tree That Spans the Net" NBC News will be airing a weeklong series on genealogy called, "Finding Our Roots," beginning on April 19. According to the message: "NBC anchors Tom Brokaw, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Ann Curry, Al Roker, Jane Pauley, and Stone Phillips go looking for their ancestors, from Romania to Japan. We'll have a guide to finding your own family tree, links to some of the top databases, and reviews of genealogical software." 3. My great-grandmother was Jerusha Clementine Graves, who married John Wesley Eakey. Her father was R. W. Graves, who owned a ranch in Erath County mid- to late-19th century. I think the name of the ranch was the Three Circles. Family myth has it that there is a Graves family cemetery on that property. Does anyone have any information about what has become of the ranch property, the cemetery, or about where I might find more information? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cathy Corder

    3. Cindy, Who were your William Hightower's parents? Know I have this "filed" somewhere, but seem to have it missplaced! I think you posted the date of the Erath Co. Hightower Cemetery spring working earlier .. could you repeat the date, please? Thank you, Sue

    3. Does anyone on the list have directions, or at least a general idea of where Alarm (Creek) Cemetery is? Here is a site that is searchable by any word, be it surname or place name. It is VERY good for searching old place names in Texas. : http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/index.html (It has a reference to Alarm Creek, but not the cemetery. Was pretty interesting reading, though.) Connie Prater Reed _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Visit http://www.msn.com
