1. [ERATH] TexasSites, Adv in Gen and a Request
    2. Hi My name is Bill Hocutt, I am a Genealogy Host on AOL for the Alabama Chat room and I have built a TexasSites Web Page. My Page contains links to Genealogy pages that are Texas Specific in most cases. If you have a home page for Texas Research or you know of a good Texas Page please send me a link so I can add it to the page. My only interest is in helping other Texas Researchers. The site is still in the Formation stage so any links Yall could contribute would be greatly appreciated. The Link for the Page is TexasSites The URL is http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/texassites.html The surnames I am researching are HOCUTT, HOWCOTT, TRAYWICK, LUNSFORD, MOORE and DODSON. I would also like to invite Yall to visit my other sites 1) Adventures in Genealogy a weekly column about Genealogy with a Humorous outlook. This site has one a few awards and the column has appeared in the Dallas Genealogical Society newsletter and is a regular on the Golden Gates Genealogical Newsletter. 3. Hey List! I've been stumped on some areas of my Erath Co. family lines. I have some of the Erath Co . cemetery inscription books and marriage books and have done many look ups for many of you on this list. I believe that if we will all help each other that great things will happen for everyone. Here are my big puzzlers. I have a 2nd great grandfather, Thomas PECK,that I know very little about. He was born abt. 1815 somewhere in North Carolina.Married Eliza BROWN in Texas(probably Erath Co.) abt.1837. Both of them are burried in the Turnbow cem. There isn't any dates on his stone. Her stone b.13 Feb 1818-23 Apr 1900. She was Choctaw Indian. They had my great grandmother,Melissa Louiza PECK b.5 May 1856 Texas d.16 Nov 1947. I know that she muust have had other sibblings. She married John Morgan Westley LOWERY 12 Oct 1876 Erath Co. I sure would like to know more about these relatives. Any help would be appreciated. I would still be glad to do look ups for anyone on the list. Betty Stinecipher stinecipher@ofgeorgia.com

    3. Kathy, I just rememberred- the State School for the Blind and the one for the deaf in Austin were once called Asylums , if I am not mistaken. Marvin Shannon of Fort Worth married the niece of Susie Moxley- my great aunt. Marvin was legally blind and attended the school in Austin and became an attorney and blind golfer. He and his brother owned the Shannon Ambulances and funeral homes and cemeteries in Fort Worth. Seems there is a lot of money in these related businesses. Take care, Charles Wyly

    3. Joe L. Ward had an automotive parts wholesale warehouse in Waco for about 50 years. He also had an automotive machine shop indowntown Stephenville in 1940-50s and a Joe Ward Automotive parts house in Stephenville on the south loop is still open. Nancy Ward was a high school girl from Selden, in Stephenville school. She had long black hair and olive skin. I have often wonderred if she was a descendant of the Nancy Ward, "Beloved Woman" of the Cherokees and head of the Women's Council, 1700-1800's? Nancy of Echota was married to Hiram Ward and lived in South Tennessee and North Georgia in the area my family were in then. She learned animal and poultry raising (dairy cows) and taught it to her Cherokee kin. The DAR built her and first husband Mankiller a monument for her aid in the Rev. War. Now that flies in the face of most Yankee history books today who say ALL Indians sided with the British. Why would they take sides against In laws??? Take care, Charles Wyly

    3. Hi, kathy I just noticed this. The Asylum was open in 1990 when one from Selden died there, but it is now a rest home where elderly from Wichita Falls and Rusk were sometimes sent if they were relatively calm and rational. How are my bees doing? It was so hot I didn't clean out everything I wanted- my heart has given me a scare or two. David Carey& tractor & scoop helpped tremendously. Used to work in that heat. No sense gambling on it now. Take care, Charles & Jeannie. P.S. the day after the hospital trip my grandson, a big football player, had 54 stings- in his ears, nose, mouth, and eyelids. He took his RX and slept. he said he never wanted to see that farm again. He lives in themiddle of one now in Falls County.

Myself and some cousins have been searching for a lost William James ORME for some time. It is believed that after the Civil War, William's brother, Thomas, notified Elizabeth ORME that her husband had been killed in Texas. 3. Hi, I have seen the graves of McAdams in Indian Creek, Erath County, not Comanche co. My great grandparents and other kin are buried there, but I personally can't tell you any more about them I attended church at Selden and know they have complete church records of the Selden Baptist Church after a school was built outside the church at Garrett Springs (Selden) and Indian Creek Church and school was moved to Garrett Springs for the new church- 1 building committee. Pleasant Hill Methodist Church at Selden cutoff on Hico Highway once also met in the old Community building at Indian Creek. I wonder if the Adams families of Johnsville and Pony Creek (Pizarro , Skipper's Gap and Johnsville Post Offices. ) could have been the ones who dropped theMc. and went by Adams?? 3. Hi, Can't help you on this one from memory or my records. Stick your head out the door and shout and one of mom's cousins might hear you. Ever hear of Copeland-Carey-Hipp-Stone- Bateman-Ramage- Hawkins-Winn- or dad's family Sevier-Buffington ?I especially need more Bateman info as Sarah Bateman and james T Stone were my ancestors and Loudelia Bateman of Stephenville married John Henry Eugene Wyly in Stephenville or unorganized Breckenridge- Stephenville records. Mom was born in Hope and grandad said he, the Stones, and a Copeland came from Hope and Nashville on a pig trail. to Huckaby- Pea Ridge, Texas, Erath County. Wonder if he meant the prehistoric Ouachita Mountain Ridge Road from Mena to Broken Bow area, called the Pig Trail. Would miss Caddo Lake and a lot of swamps and rivers that way, then to Paris or Greenville, Texas, then to Erath County. 3. Hi, Willie Gail Stephens is two years older than I and we attended Selden School, Stephenville High, Tarleton, and both worked at Convair Fort Worth to finish college. He taught Industrial Cooperative Training and nurse aid coop students in Stephenville while I taught it in West and Midway High Schools, McLennan County. We had both taught academic math or history to qualify for training for the ICT certification school. His dad was Gail Stephens, a peanut farmer and primitiveBaptist elder. I did not know Willie's grandad. Please remember that Stephenville was named after a Stephen family and some Stevens families, including great great Grandad Rev. B.T. Stevens of Shipley (Pine Mountain) , Georgiaand Texas. He and his wife and daughter Angelina Stevens who married Rev. W.P. & Dr. & pharmacist W.P. Hatchett of Shipley and Central Texas. Last time i visited the Selden Hatchett cemetery on the Duffau Creek I noticed one generation headstones were Stephens and the other generation was Stevens, but they had no connection to the Stephen families of Waco, Chalk Mountain, or Stephenville.
