    3. Some areas of the country have funeral home records available which contain a great deal of useful information. I don't know if there are records available for Erath Co--or even which Funeral Home was doing burials before 1900. Does anyone out there know? Is the funeral home still in business? Is there a current address? I could also use this information for my own research. My list of surnames that are connected with Erath/Comanche/Brown counties are: Duke, Foster, Jackson, Keith, Essary, Glasscock, Cargile, Carruthers Vynette in Arizona ---------- > From: DebbyKay <debbykay@hotmail.com> > To: TXERATH-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [ERATH] Cook / Pettiet > Date: Monday, October 18, 1999 9:03 PM > > Does anyone know who and if there is any way to obtain doctor records for > the period of 1881 - 1882? 3. Katheryn, Hiram Avery Stone married Dovie Ellen Long 14 Jan 1872 in Randolph Co., AL. They had 15 children. The first born William "Will" Marion Stone was born in Randolph Co 07 Jan 1874 but they were at Salem Community, Tx when child #2 Epsy Florence was born on 26 Nov 1875. The Elizabeth you mentioned was child #5 Minkie Elizabeth born 03 Jan 1881. Per earlier email tonight, Al Stone and I will prepare a report showing these families for the site asap. You also mentioned James Hiram Stone who was child #8 of that marriage who married Eva Laney. With Hiram Avery Stone having 15 children and Mathew having 12 and not to mention Charley had at least 7 then we believe it will be better to just present the report. Hope this helps until we can get the report together for everyone. Peggy in Bridge City

    1. [ERATH] Stone Families in Erath
    2. Peggy Harrington
    3. Everyone is being great to try and help. Al Stone is a new member to the list also and we both descend from two of the three brothers who came to Erath Co. Al descends form Charlie and I descend from Mathew. Bill has advised us to put the Stone family line in the site. Al Stone and I are deciding if we will combine these families to simplify the line or separate them with one of us adding the third brother. Please be patient and we will have this posted for those of you with Stone connections. I also do not know any of the Laney line other than Eva L Laney. I recently found out old family friend "Mattie Ramage" was a Laney. I have a photo of her dad Cal which I recently shared with Bill. Wish there was a way we could identify others in the photo. Bill is there a way we could get this photo to the people for possible identification. I think 9 Erath men in all and clear to identify. Anyone out there know a Ed Johnson. I have a photo of him and my grandfather Edgar! Stone. Thanks everyone for your patience while we compose these reports. I would really like to know more about that Grady Langford. I know so very little about any of the Langfords. Peggy in Bridge City

    1. [ERATH] Re:Longs
    2. Dear Bill, Sorry, I don't see a connection, but there may be, way, way back. My Longs who came to Texas had three sons: William "Mack" Long, Lewis Frank Long and Sterling "Starl" Davidson Long. The family came to Erath County from Randolph County Alabama, having first lived in Georgia before the War. Dovie Long Stone's father, Lewis Marion Long, was born in Forsyth Co, GA in 1832, son of Lewis and Tabitha Long. He had several brothers, but as far as we know none came to Texas. Lewis Long, Sr., was born in SC in 1785, came to GA to live with his brother ca. 1803 when his father, Levi Long died, and then served in the Washington Co, GA militia in the War of 1812. Levi Long was born in NC (probably Tyrrell County), part of the large and prolific Long family that had been in Northeastern NC from around the 1670's at least (James Long, original settler, died in Old Albemarle Precinct in 1680, having come from Sheffield England to eastern Maryland to NC) It's quite possible that your Longs also go back to this family, as they spread all over the South. --K In a message dated 10/18/99 8:27:55 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Texasdog@aol.com writes: << (1) General James Beauregard Long, b. 1863 ---married Alice Hale who was born 1871 in Duffau; the couple lived in Eldorado, OK. 1. [ERATH] Stone/Long (Didn't see first posting)
    2. If I'd read these postings in sequence, I'd have saved myself some time!! Dovie Long Stone was my 2nd great-aunt. Would LOVE info on the names of all her children and who they married - will gladly exchange for info on her ancestors and siblings. Dovie Long married Hiram Stone in Randolph County Alabama. Sometime in the 1870's they moved to Erath County and Dovie's parents and brothers and sisters either moved with the Stone family or came to Erath County shortly thereafter. Dovie's father, Lewis Marion Long, served in the 11th Alabama Infantry during the War, which was part of Archer's Brigade of the Army of Northern Virginia. He was captured in the first day of fighting at Gettysburg and was a POW at Fort Delaware. (Have more info on his war record if you're interested). He and his wife, Mary Cordell Long, came to Erath County with their 8 children. In addition to Dovie, there were: Julia, William L "Mack", Lewis Frank, Sterling "Starl" Davidson Long (my gg grandfather) Doshia, Lucy, and Mary Ellen "Ella". I have info on who the girls married but not Starl's two brothers. -- Kathryn Coombs ---------------- In a message dated 10/17/99 11:41:02 PM Eastern Daylight Time, peggyh@pernet.net writes: << Hiram Stone had two more brothers in Erath. Yes they all came from Alabama and all children of Jeremiah Stone and wife Elizabeth Hodge(s)married at Springville, St. Clair Co., AL just above Birmingham. They were living in Randolph Co., AL when Jeremiah died in Civil War. I will send direct email with list. Peggy in Bridge City >>

The middle name of James Hiram Stone suggests that he was of the same family of Hiram Stone -- son??, nephew?? Or, was it the same guy?
