Thanks Jane for the concern and prayer, we just spent another 5-6 hours in that ER last night, at least nothing was broken, they thought at first his neck was broken becasue he was in such pain and could not move his head, all this because he fell on Friday and knocked his head,, now he is having to use a walker, and today I will called the bone doctor we have been going to for a prescription for a wheel chair, he is 79 years old and very hard headed... he needs a shoulder replacement and a knee replacement and refuses to have either..... I don't dare go and leave him, because he falls, so I spend a lot of time at the computer,. Thanks for your concern,.. Sunday gets right busy, JO, and the milk tank trucks can make you forget you were on your way to church, and the trucks with the big round bales of hay as just as bad, you ca't pass because you can't see beyound the truck and some mornings, all you can smell when you open the door is the daries that sourrand you. but I like living here... but it has it disadvantages also, like being far from a doctor,, but that is enough for now. Peggy, what do you have on the Crockett/Danley families thst were in Erath County - don't have the years but about mid 1860s. nitauno@aol.com nita
If this beautiful weather holds I hope to come to Stephenville and check records looking for info on my Crockett/Danley kin. Sounds like a great place to start. I live in San Antonio, but I was born & raised in the Hill Country of Harper, TX - So I appreciate friendly people .. NitaParkerRyan nitauno@aol.com
Are there records for around 1892 Jack County, Texas? My great grandpa had a son who became a doctor in 1890 and died in 1892 at age 30. I'd like to know "wha happened?" He did not go to medical school, but "read medicine" at night studying under an older doctor. Charles are you working on the Crockett/Danley file - seems like I have seen your name around before. Just wondering. nitauno@aol.com
I also love the stories. I never met my g-grandmother, Jennie Bell Head, but the stories give me a warm fuzzy feeling...like I have been there. Hi, Peggy, Hope your family members are better. My daughter Sandra works out of Temple Scott and White Hospital. She worked at Wallmart Hillsboro and attended Texas State Technical College in Waco and got an A>B> degree on the President's honor roll in Neuclear Technology and worked in Dallas UT and Parkland and, with a State license, inspected, adjusted, and did state reports on radiation equipment and storage. She transferred to Scott and White, and was doing the same work in Temple VA, and Scott & White Clinics in Bryan, Santa Fe Temple, Temple VA, San Angelo, Brownwood, Meridian, Waco, Hewitt, Bellmead, Gatesville, and others. The State in its wisdom and interest in your medical expense has now decreed that she must have a B.S.- no grandfather Clause in the law, so she helps train a doctor and works under him or her now. Her son is a Senior this year. My son Rick finished Texas A&M as a Building Construction Makor- combination of Engineer and Archicect and Environmental design He now owns THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE construction company in Keller, Texas , has 3 daughters, his wife teaches in Keller, and he is a Deacon. HOW MANY COTTONWOOD CHURCHES ARE THERE, ANYWAY? I am sure the one in Dublin is the one the inquiry was about. Did you ever notice we sometimes fail to put the county by these small places ? There is a Midway, Texas with a post office which has nothing to do with Midway School, McLennan County, and a Three Way Community in West Texas as well as Erath County. The one I heard of most in my end of the county was a Baptist church in the Paluxy valley between Chalk Mountain and Glen Rose, now in Somerville County, near Crossroads or Glass community., Circle 8 Dude Ranch country. SCOTT FRETWELL was converted there after his son Cecil died in Korea and was given the Congressional Medal of Honor posthomusely (SP) Scott was a very religious man until his death. His son used to trade motorcycle parts with the Little, Davis and others in Johnsville when I was there. There is also a COTTONWOOD community between West and Penelope, Hill or McClennan Co. . Ira Stewart of Erath County was Supt. at Penelope.for several years but kept his cattle and permanent home in Erath County. I think there is one Cottonwood community in Comanche County also- I have seen 3 or 4 more- none have post offices I have seen. I saw one on Hwy 6 or 36 or a4 west of Waco. If you are in Temple Saturday and can manage it , Scott & White is having an auction of old furnishings, shelves, and anything old not fastened down. I may ged shelves for my workshop. Some may need repair or painT. Thought you might like to know. Take care, Charles Wyly
I have a Grady Stone, son of Osie or Ose Stone b 1913, grandson of Charlie. Does that sound familiar. Peggy in Bridge City
Hi, I remember Grady Stone. Where did he fit in this Stone forrest? Enjoy your input. Charles Wyly
Nothing but the Purves Baptist Church? I'm in Dallas, and we have people county-line to county-line, north, south, east, and west, but couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I can sure appreciate the silence you must enjoy..at least you don't have to get to church an hour early just for a place to park or to get your favorite seat.:) I have a TexasChat list if anyone wants to join us for sharing more of these wonderful stories and memories. For more information, please contact me privately or visit: http://www.onelist.com/community/TexasChat I get so weary of all the traffic, noise and pollution, but don't know if I could sleep without all the familiar noises. Went to East Texas with my husband to meet his family. Couldn't go to sleep, had all that cool fresh air...seemingly no sounds..next morning, realized it was just toooooo quiet. The next night I listened again and heard all the wondrous sounds of nature among all the tall pine trees..slept like a baby all night and most of the morning.....loved it and try to visit as often as I can get them to let me visit them.:) ----- Original Message ----- From: Julia Brewer <juliab@flash.net> To: <TXERATH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 21, 1999 4:49 AM Subject: Re: [ERATH] This weeks Biography > I also love the stories. Vynette, The best I can recall, records at the funeral home start in 1910 or 1912. They did not have a record I was looking for from 1907. They are very nice to share the information and simply gave me the old record book to sit down with and read. Regene Blair in CA.
