    1. [ERATH] Roberts/Crenshaw
    2. Thanks to everyone who is waiting so patiently. I have not spent much time in this line yet. I have mainly been working with my DeGuire line (also from Erath County). Most of what I have on my Roberts line is "word of mouth", mainly from my Dad. My dad is Rev James Robert DeGuire, and my mom is Martha Faye Temple (DeGuire). I would rather not give out to much info on them, as they are still alive. My Roberts line is through my dad. Dad's parents were Rev. David Benjamin DeGuire and Vermell Elizabeth Roberts (DeGuire). David was born 15 Aug 1887 in Alexander, Erath, Texas, and died 12 Nov 1977 in Gorman, Eastland, Texas. Vermell was born 9 Aug 1890 in Morvin, Clarke, Alabama, and died 21 Jan 1959 in Texas, probably around Desdamona. They were married 28 Nov 1911 in Erath County, Texas. Vermell's parents were James Desire Roberts and Rachel Thompson Crenshaw (Roberts). James was born in Alabama, and died Apr 1890. Rachel was born 31 Dec 1859 in Morvin, Clarke, Alabama, and died 2 Jun 1932 in Lamesa, Dawson, Texas. I have a Wedding Certificate for David Benjamin DeGuire and Vermell Elizabeth Roberts. The ceremony was performed by W. R. Shelly, Minister. I also have a Certificate of Ordination for David Benjamin DeGuire dated 9 Oct 1921, "by a Council of Baptist Churches", "convened at the call of East Cisco Baptist Church, at East Cisco Texas". I have a copy of an application for a Social Security card for David Benjamin DeGuire. I have a Death Certificate for David Benjamin DeGuire. I have found Rachel in the 1900 US Census with her children, but James had already died by that time. According to this census, other children of Rachel Thompson Crenshaw and James Desire Roberts include Joseph, Charles P., Benjamin F., and James E. I have a copy of a wedding certificate for Mr Ben Roberts and Miss Annie Carter. The wedding took place on 17 Dec 1905, and was performed by E P Perry. The certificate was filed in Stephenville, Erath, Texas. I have a copy of a wedding certificate for Mr James E. Roberts and Miss Sirvelia Chisum. The wedding took place on 3 Sep 1911, and was performed by Melvin R. Cox, Minister of the Gospel. This certificate was also filed in Stephenville, Erath, Texas. I would love to hear from anyone who can fill in any gaps! I would also love to hear from distant relatives! Thanks. 3. Hi Gina, I appreciate you asking about this. The problem is I don't have any information on the Hendersons further back than Martha. I do know, via the census, that Martha was born in Arkansas...haven't found her there yet...and her parents were born in Tennessee. This is one of the most difficult of my lines that I am working on. I think two possibilities as brothers (because they were born in Arkansas and their parents were born in Tennessee, as Martha's were, according to the 1920 & 1930 Census are: Page 182B Census...or if you're doing it through Ancestry.com...page 28, District 72 James Henderson Husb. I have a possible lead now. If any of these names fit into your Hendersons, I will be glad to share. G [email protected] wrote: Donna - do you know who Martha's parents were? Artie and Myrtle ran the Gulf Service Station in Clairette in the 1950's through 1962 when Artie learned he had lung cancer. Their son, Tommy Thompson is my Dad who is living and still working at 83. I am searching for the final resting place of Samuel Lynch Thompson who died between 1895 and 3 Jun 1900 when Martha remarried...J.M. Chaney. Iam looking for the cemetery where Martha is buried also. My maternal grandparents were J.S. and Bessie Ann (Draper) Flowers. Their first farm was at Duffau, they owned one at Purvis in the 1940's, moved to the Olin Community in Hamilton County in the 1950's and then back to Duffau where they owned their last farm in the 1960's. Their daughter, Dorothy, is my mother. Their roots reach back to Kentucky and Alabama where I am pursuing their ancestors also. I spent most of my childhood in Erath County with both sets of grandparents. Was it really as wonderful as I remember? 3. There is a website called "AncientFaces.com" that does just that. It holds photos, both identified and unidentified and makes them available for others to view and perhaps find a connection or identify persons in the photographs. I have a lot more I meant to send you, but Substitute teaching has kept me busy almost every day for last 2 years until a wreck this summer and a Pacemaker episode. Have worked almost every day this year since October 1. Waco pays twice what some Rural schools pays subs and has a lot of Baylor students and grads subbing now. Thanks, and did you see the send about the Atlanta Wyly girls buried in Liverpool during Civil War. ? 3. Hi, one i knew best was Howard Keith, pastor at Pony Creek and Cedar Point, a Missionary ( BMA Baptist from Dublin area, ordained by Bro. Emil Becker, Stephenville First Baptist at age 45+ , in 1950's and he drove a Cooper Grocery Truck - Stephenville from Cleburne. Sometimes his tithe exceeded total church offerings during planting time and before harvest income. He could preach over an hour and still have your interest and curiousity. He was proof that some church and home trained folk know depths of scripture you don't necessarially get in a College classroom. Take care, Charles A.
