Hi, Kathy- , Guess I wasn't thinking, but my great Grandfather's brothers would be my Great Great Uncles I am still confused by the difference between First Cousins once removed and Second cousins . As you know , I have 8 Double First cousins born in Selden. -or Stephenville Hospital and 2 more buried in Selden Cemetery on Duffau Creek in Grady & Joyce Parton Wyly's Dairy land. FIRST COUSIN ONCE REMOVED- , as I understand it are children of my first cousins, so would the children of my Double First Cousins be First cousins half =removed? Now add half siblings and explain it. I haver seen different explanations on other sites. Another question- Martha Catherine Mitchell was the third wife of O.C. Wyly in Georgia. Her aunt or double first cousin of her mom was Lucy Eddins, O.C.'s first wife. What relation are the grandchildren on their mom's side- Wyly side is clear cut. Charles Wyly --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kathy Tate <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Date: Sun, 7 Sep 2003 04:27:57 -0700 Subject: [ERATH] question about generations... Message-ID: <[email protected]> Would somebody please tell me exactly how to state generations? For example: If I want to say I'm a 7th (or whatever) generation Texan, where does it start? My gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather Elijah Isaacks came to Texas (then Mexico) in 1822 ...he was born in South Carolina but died in Texas. His son William, my 4Xgr grandfather, was also born in SC and died in Texas. My 3Xgr grandfather, Frederick, was born in Texas. Now where do I start counting? Would I be a 7th generation "Texan" ...or 6th ...or 5th ...or what? I'm setting up a website for my art work and thought I would go a little further than saying I'm a "native Texan" but I'm not sure where to start counting. Anyone know? Hi, I agree with you, based on eligibility to join the Sons of Republic of Texas and Sons of San Jacinto Organizations. These records are in the Sons of Republic of Texas Library in Austin, and some in the Alamo library Also, they are posted inside the Theatre Room of the San Jacinto .Monument on a Silver Plaque. Prove that connection and they may show you some records not in a room normally open to the public. . Capt Alfred Henderson Wyly and his East Texas Redlanders included some of his Balch kin from Greene County, Tennessee joined Gen. Sam Houston at Groce's Crossing a day before the Battle. Capt. Wyly is buried near Waller or Hempstead- but many of his descendants went to Picton, Hopkins County, Texas. One of these descendants is a Retired Texas Highway patrolman and deputy sheriff in Brownwood and this is the second year he has been in the San Jacinto Reenactment Battle as a member of the Sons of Texas Vets of Texas Rev. Another of his cousins, Alton Wyly of Vega, Texas was also a descendant of Capt. Alfred Henderson Wyly. Alton married a girl from Duffau, Erath County, before moving to Vega, Texas. They rarely missed our Stephenville Wyly Reunions. I had the records needed by the Brownwood deputy to complete his connection to Texas Rev. and to my kin and his back in Georgia and Tennesse. Was your Bean connected to Judge Roy Bean, west of the Pecos- don't laugh, but the appeals Judge who backed Judge Bean in El Paso was a Carr- and Judge Carr's brother ran the Stage station at Abest Overpass ( South of Abbott, Texas under I-35) . he also owned the Hooker or Mart Cole Cave near his house and supplied healthy nursery Stock to Central Texans. Many Carrs in Erath County- not sure of these Carr connections. I am interested too. My family was Hightower and Car(r)away, and Jordan and Willingham. Thanks; Shirley
Are there any other pictures similar for Erath Co? My grandad died in January, 1912 and I believe he was in bad health for awhile before his death. I never knew him. My mother was born on his 50th birthday and she was about 41 when I was born. He was 69 when he died and that is my age now! He was John (J J) McKinney and lived near Gordon, TX. My dad recalled that Grandpa would go to all the veterans reunions he knew about, all over the country. I have a book he was given in Memphis, TN at a reunion in 1910. His brother-in-law wrote these words about him when he learned of his death, "John J McKinney was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., June 13, 1843; and died January 16, 1912. Camp Erath, U.V.C. has lost a faithful comrade. he was a brave soldier, a good citizen, and a kind neighbor. He was an affectionate husband and father. He belonged to Company E, Balentine's Reiment, Armtrongs's Brigade, Army of Tennessee." Dortha McElroy Greenlee ----- Original Message ----- From: "John A. I am glad this topic came up, because I have always been curious as to how that works. My great grandmother Lula Melvina Sechrist was born in 1900 Erath Co Texas. We believe Dublin. There are Sechrist still in Stephensville I believe but none I could find in the link given. I dont think they came to Texas until 1876 or so from MO. A wagon train of 21 led by Andrew Sechrist. Take care all and thanks for the great topics and info. Throughout Texas, men fought in The War Between the States. Some even survived to attend reunions held in the counties they were living. I just now received one from a very generous gentleman pertaining to Erath County. I also have one taken in Hamilton County, but unlike the Erath photo, Hamilton isn't indexed with the names. I would be interested in the photo and a listing of the men also. My grandfather lived in Palo Pinto Co., TX, but he was a member in Erath Co. He was John (J J) McKinney. John - could you post the list of men shown in both photos? I'm looking for several vets who lived out north-northwest of Stephenville. Cindy ----- Original Message ----- From: "John A. How about...my family came to Texas in 1822 [are they part of the old 300? that would be worth mentioning] and I'm a 6th generation Texan...or it might be more fun to count down to the newest generations in your family and say that your family has X generations of native born Texans. Of course, people who see your web site will think you are a boot wearing, steer-wrestler who talks with a slow slur mingled with an equal measure of mams and cuss-words. :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy Tate" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 07, 2003 6:27 AM Subject: [ERATH] question about generations... > Would somebody please tell me exactly how to state generations? > > For example: If I want to say I'm a 7th (or whatever) generation Texan, > where does it start?
