Although I have spent all my life, except for most of twenty two years of military service, in Texas, I would have some difficulty in fighting in the Army of the Confederacy. I like to think I would be one of those who would have remained loyal to the United States of America. Admittedly, this is a matter of "Monday Morning Quarterbacking" and I probably would have worn a gray uniform if I had been alive back then. That having been said, I am deeply offended by the attempts to denigrate every concept, i.e., flags, songs, memories, etc., that is associated in any way with the losing side of what some very perceptive people still refer to as the "War of Northern Aggression!" Attempts to equate the "Stars and Bars" with the Nazi swastika are obscene to say the least! If this trend continues and all, or most Confederate symbols are removed, what will be the next target? Will each emerging minority demand that its oppressive symbol, i.e., "Fort 'What Ever' " for the Native Americans, the Alamo and the San Jacinto Monument for Hispanics and even the various monumentsat Pearl Harbor for the Japanese?
