S-Sgt Guy Youngblood, son of Mrs. Letha Youngblood of Dallas, formerly of Ennis, was killed in action in France, November 10, according to a message received Tuesday evening by his mother. Sgt. Youngblood, a fomer employee of the United Publishing Co, entered the service about three years ago, and served overseas for ten months, spending a furlough in Ennis in December 1943. He served as tail and waste gunner during fifty missions over Italy, Sicily, Africa, and France before coming back to the States. He asked for overseas duty again, and was sent to France. The last letter received from him was November 4. In Memory The force of The Ennis Daily News pauses to pay tribute to Guy Youngblood, a former employee of The News, who gave his life for his country. Guy was well liked by all who knew him and The News force was grieved to learn of his death. He completed over fifty missions over Europe prior to his last visit home and it was at his own request tht he was returned to combat. About 25 babies were registered and at the appointed time the mothers began to arrive with their beautiful babies, for this was a beauty show only and not for physical examination. The babies were judged on three points, beauty, brightness, general appearance. The children were arranged in three groups, first, all under 1 year of age; second, all from 1 to 2 ½ years; third, all from 2 ½ to 4 years. A table was placed in front of the judges who were seated, and each child in rotation placed on the table and numbered and the judges knew them only by numbers. It was a beautiful sight to view the various types of beauty and a task almost appalling for it did seem cruel to have to make any distinction between them for they were all pretty, so pretty and so attractive in every way that we did wish we could give every one a prize, but as only three could be winners, the judges after due deliberation pinned the blue ribbon on the following: No. 1, little Jane Bell, four months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Bell; No. 2, Jo Ann Roberson, 18 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roberson; No. 3, Frieda Francine Jones, 3 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Jones. The prizes were: 1 gold bracelet from Dunkerely Jewelry store; 1 8x10 portrait from Maresh studio; 1 8x10 portrait from Littlejohn studio. The judges were out of town ladies and none of them knew a single one of the children or their mothers, hence their judgment was as fair as they could make it. Mrs. E. J. Anderson of Waxahachie was chairman of the judges; Mrs. William Campbell of Oak Grove, Mrs. J. L. Lemmon of Rice. Additional Comments: Picture attached is Jane Bell, 4 months of age. 1. 1910-1920 Ellis Co Census
    2. Virginia Crilley
    3. As I've been working on the Alma section of the Ellis County census, it has been fun to see a name and think, "I know that person!" or "I didn't know they lived next door to one another!"..... I just use a very simple typed format (as you've seen) which makes it easy to read and follow. Why don't you consider working on these Census with me -- choice a portion (or even ONE page) where you family members are listed, and then we'll combine them all together. Let me know if you're willing to help on this. This will help those folks who don't have access to these census or have trouble reading the images on-line. I always think it is better when the transcriber of a census has some knowledge of the surnames they're working with. Much easier to read when you do recognize names you know.
