Hello list My list of surnames are: Beaty, Clemons (Clements) Zollicoffer, Hines, Tibet Pat K "to be nobody but yourself -- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you like everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting." e.e. cummings
My Ellis county roots come from the names as follows: Lemmon, Pace, Tate, Ford, Rawlins. There are related families in Ellis county to these names who are related to us such as the Smith who are also related to my Halbert line through marriage. Two of the Smith sisters were my great grandmother Naomi Halbert Lemmon's sisters. My Great Grandparents, Jefferson Davis Lemmon and Naomi Halbert Lemmon lived in Ferris, Texas and are buried at the Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster where a lot of the Lemmon family are buried. My GGG Grandmother, Amy Rawlins Lemmon is buried in Ennis at the Myrtle Cemetery and some of her other children are buried there, I believe. Her husband, James Lemmon is buried at the Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster. My Pace family comes from my GG Grandmother, Lenny Pace Lemmon who was the daughter of John Pace and Sarah [Sallie] McCracken Pace and they are buried at the Pace Cemetery that is real old and run down now in Palmer, Texas, I believe. They came to Texas from Rutherford Co, Tennessee. One of John Pace's daughters was Ruth Lambert Pace and she was married to a Geaslin. My Ford's begin with my GG Grandfather, George W. Ford and his wife Winey Clementine Lee Ford. They came to Texas from Pope County, Arkansas and settled in Trumbull, Texas and they are buried in Ferris. My mother was born in Trumbull and was raised in Ferris, Billie Jean Lemmon Little. Her parents were both born in Trumbull also, William Lambert Lemmon and Bess Tate Lemmon. Several of the Ford children became school teachers and taught school in Ellis County. George W. Ford was my maternal grandmother's grandfather. My Tate line begins with my great grandfather, Zachariah Benjamin [Zack] Tate and he came to Texas from Arkansas and met Rosa Belle Ford, daughter of George W. Ford in Ellis County. He was a little bit older then Rosa Belle but they married and had ten children and lived in Ellis County all of their married life. Zack Tate came to Texas with a cousin, William H. Tate and he always called him "Uncle Bill" but he was actually his cousin. I have a lot of ancestors who are buried at the various places in Ellis County. Until I find my old disk containing all the names found in the church record, then those of you who think you might have a family who attended the Rutherford (Primitive) Baptist Church (which was originally called Red Oak Baptist Church), you can go to http://userdb.rootsweb.com/churchrecords/ 1. type in surname - leave first name blank 2. select Ellis Co., TX 3. leave record type blank 4. select Rutherford Baptist Church Once I find my old disk I'll resubmit the infor to the Ellis Co., TX website for inclusion there. I've been told that this church held meetings about once a month. That the families who attended this church came from about four counties. On the weekend of the meetings, families would arrive for the meetings on Thursdays or Fridays and stay until Monday morning. Each family camped out - using their wagons and quilts for shelter. The original list revealed people were "expelled" for drinking and dancing. If they repented at the next meeting they were "forgiven" and taken back into the fold. The church did not consider a man and woman married until they were married at a camp meeting. My gg-grandfather, GWL Perry's was married two times to his second wife. The first time the church did not acknowledge because it was performed by a judge. The second marriage was performed at a camp meeting and apparently the preacher required the couple present him with a "new" marriage license. Ruth
