    3. Growing up in Texas in the 1950's I used to listen to the adults in my families talk about the "big gatherings" of people from "back there" --(i.e., Athens, Limestone Co., AL)-- had in Ellis Co., TX. In the years from 1999 until his death in 2003, Felix Arthur "Buddy" Smith, Jr. and I had several discussion about these gatherings. Another elderly cousin of mine (different family line) has told me that when she was a small child the Alabama families from Randolph, Calhoun and their neighboring counties used to have large gatherings in the late spring or early summer (after the crops had been planted) and again in fall after the crops were gathered. The Waxahachie papers may have had some stories about these gatherings but so far I've not found them. Then again in the Waxahachie papers I've yet to find the story about the capture of the killer of one of my gg-grandfathers. Nor have I found the newspaper story about the train accident that caused the death of John Smith (older half-brother to Felix "Buddy" Smith Jr.) in Waxahachie in the late 1890's. Does anyone associated with Ellis know of a reunion of Ellis families who migrated to Ellis from the Limestone Co AL and/or Giles Co TN, and probably Lincoln Co TN? 3. I wrote that my Tennessee GG Uncle came to TX in 1820 - he was born about 1820 in Williamson Co. TN. I found him in Grimes Co. TX in 1850. Records from another researcher show his only child, Mary Loretta (Lou) was born in Italy, Ellis Co. TX. She married G Samuel Wimberley on 6 Aug 1868. They had 6 children that I can find. Jonathan Regen and his wife, Eva Jane Couch are buried in the Italy City Cemetery as well as many of her family and their daughter and her husband. Sara Powell

    3. Aileen, I need/must be in on this, too!!! This is going to sound like a tall fish tale, but I have family from all the places mentioned in your post, who moved to Ellis County, Texas in the 1800's. I have the Ellis family, William E. Jones, Wiley Rotenberry and John W. Rotenberry, Mary Jane Williams and the Willie McWhorter family line, plus their spouses family lines. This is so marvelously wonderful, and interesting. 3. Hi, may I get in on this? I have a family in Ellis Co. My Great Great Uncle was born in Williamson Co. TN and moved away about 1820. He shows up in Texas on the 1850 Census married to a lady from AL but I don't know what county. His last name was Region/Regen and hers was Couch. It seems her whole family moved to Texas. 3. Hi Susan I really appreciate your help. Did you mean 1910 census? Here's where I am. Roy Stewart was my grandfather. Maggie was my grandmother but his second wife. My mom d/o Roy & Maggie was half sister to Albert. Albert was born 1901 & Roy remarried Maggie in 1903. 1900 census shows Roy & Bertha. That is the only name we have been able to find for her. I obtained Albert's death certificate. No help. Mother & father listed as unk. I have sent for Albert's marriage license (1920). Still waiting for that. The question is: Was Bertha Albert's mom and what was her maiden name? We have found no other record of her as yet. My cousin Cassie (Albert's descendent) and I have had no luck as yet. Albert's mother would be her great grandmother. Thanks again for your interest and all of your help. 3. The mailing lists on RootsWeb are undergoing some dramatic changes, at least for the list administrators. I just got my first look at the management pages today and it appear to me that some subscribers that were subscribed in the Digest Mode may now be subbed under the List Mode now as well. I really can't tell yet just what changes will be noticeable by the average subscriber. If you will be patient during the transition, I will assist those who may be receiving both List and Digest messages. Please contact me privately if you experience any problems and I will try to resolve them as soon as possible. 1. James Wallace Obit Lookup
    2. I am hoping to find someone who can do an obit lookup for me. Someone who lives in Ellis Co. James Edwin Wallace died Aug. 5, 2000. In my research I discovered that my G Grandfather married a second time and had a son by this name who at the time of his death in 1938 was mentioned in his obit as living in Maypearl. This is where the story gets interesting. There was never a mention of him by my grandmother and in searching the 1920 and 1930 census, it appears that he was an adopted son of Georgia Martin. She also had children Rila May and Albert T. Martin. By 1930 James Wallace was the only one living with her. I am really hoping to find by his obit that he had survivors to find out why my GG Grandfather gave him up. He would have been a brother to my grandmother. Records show 2 addresses for him in Waxahachie. One is 1413 West Main St and the other is 711 W Jefferson. These addresses are from the 1997 time period. Can anyone tell me if either of these are possibly a nursing home? Any help would be appreciated. If I had known 6 years ago that he even existed, I would have tried to contact him. Now, I am trying to find out if he has any survivors to contact. Thanks for anyone's help!
