I will do a web search and see what I can get. A distant cousin and I contributed information for an online history of our ancestor who is buried at the state cemetery, but I am not aware of anything the Texas State Library might have. For anyone who may have family buried at the state cemetery, here is a sample of what you can see at that web site. Search for Polk then select Nancy Marie McDonald Polk. It will bring up her picture, her gravestone, and family stories. Perhaps your relative is there. If so, you can add whatever information you have that they do not have. http://www.cemetery.state.tx.us/pub/user_form.asp Betty Betty DuBose Hamilton Maternal: Cook, Polk, Wooten, Sowders, McDonald, Rodgers, Waters, Deering, Aycock, Henley, Phillips, Strickland Scotland>Ireland>TN>TX also England>MD>TN>TX Paternal: DuBose, Morgan, Smith, Pitts, Pynes, Hampton, Carter, Evans, Heartley, Neville, Gibbes, Mann, Bohannan France>England>SC>FL>AL>TX>

    3. I'm sure you already know of the Confederate home (may have been a Confederate Women's) in Austin? My great great grandmother was moved there when she was about 93. Since she died there at age 96 in 1938, she is buried in the state cemetery. I seem to recall that there was also an old soldiers home, but they had the women and men in separate homes, I think. Maybe someone has the two places confused. 3. Callie, I have lived in Ellis County for 49 years and have never heard anyone mention an Old Soldiers Home. You might be able to contact the genealogical dept at Sims Library in Waxahachie to see if they know. If they don't know maybe you can get the telephone number of the Genealogical Society from them. Maybe the Society knows. The telephone number of Sims Library is 972-937-2671. Sorry but I don't know the number of the Genealogical Society. Martha is an aunt of my dad's and she raised my grandfather after his dad died in 1898, and he went to live with her and his grandfather. She lived in Ellis County most of her life, although she was born in 1859 or 1861in Tennessee. She is listed on the 1930 Ellis County census along with her nephew James Richard Jones, and all previous census records before that time. She was born in September 1861, Tennessee according to the 1900 Ellis County census. I cannot locate a date of death for her, although I am sure thast she passed away and was buried in Ellis County. Sorry slow getting back to you, have been ill. Below is the whole post to the Limestone mail list [it is possible to go back on the list archives by going to rootsweb.com, their home page ,and working your way through the Mailing Lists and then browse or search the archived postings]. Below is also a couple of other postings re this matter in case you missed them. The Ruth has offered to search the 1900-1919 'Decades" volumes as she calls them to get the Ellis families mentioned. My thought was that someone in Ellis would be able to search the newspapers there about any such reunion, but no one has volunteered to do that yet, so will see how it goes. Good hunting to us both! Aileen Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2006 10:15:03 -0400 From: "delins1" <[email protected]> Subject: [ALLIMEST] sources for researching Limestone County To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I have been researching Limestone Co., AL families for more than ten years. Other than census records, here's a list of my favorite sources for researching Limestone County from my home in northern Virginia. If any of you have other sources please add to this list. 1. Computerized listing by surname of court, funeral home records, etc. - secured from Limestone Co., AL archives 2. Obits in Huntsville, AL newspaper - especially for years from 1950-1990's - must have dod. researchers fond at Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness most helpful. 3. Obits in Decatur, AL newspaper - especially for years from 1950-1990's 4. Medical Examiner's records for some years from mid 1880's and 1890's - can only be accessed by personally going to LCA Archives in Athens - the staff will not do look-ups for you in these books. Birth/death records included in these have proven most helpful in my Hastings, Meadows, and Holt families research. 5. some church records found at LCA Archives - can only be accessed by personally going to LCA Archives in Athens. - the staff will not do look-ups for you in these books 4. Athens, AL public library - write them for obits that may have appeared in newspapers. They are helpful, but expect your request to take some time. Must have dod. 5. Great resource tools for sometimes identifying dates of deaths for people whose tombstones have been destroyed or finding out when someone moved to Texas, etc. are Faye Axford's books, especially the "decade" books. It was from reviewing her 1890's decade book that I was able to make a copy of one of my most treasured items, the newspaper article announcing the marriage of my g-grandparents, William Hastings aka Hasten to Anna D. Meadows. It was from this same 1890's book that I was able to learn when my gg-grandfather N.J. Meadows moved to Texas. From Faye's 1900-1910 books I was able to learn that my families who'd moved to Texas "had a big reunion with other families from Limestone Co., AL and Giles Co., TN " in Ellis Co., TX. It seems that there was a correspondent living in Waxahachie who occasionally wrote the Athens newspaper providing news about former Limestone and Giles County residents. Some of Faye's books can be located at the LCA Archives. The Athens College library has a copy of most of them. The Library of Congress has a few as does the DAR Library in Washington DC. Faye's books I've most useful are Limestone County During WW I Limestone County During WW II Decades Series 1870's 1880's 1890's 1900 to 1910 1930-1935 1935-1940 If any of you have other favorite sources please add to this list. Thanks.
