Hi, I would appreciate someone who has access to Ancestry.com doing a check for me. I am seeking information on my gg-grandfather, and his ancestry. I have a free 2 week tral to Ancestry.com, and found where my gg-grandfather my be listed (among other places??). I found a listing under the "Texas Death Index, 1903-2000". He is listed as W.E. Jones -Ellis, if you could check out that site I will be most grateful to you. I hope that his father's or mother's name will be listed there, along with other information. I need everything that is there to continue my search into my ancestry. His information is: William Edward Jones born: Abt. > Does this PYNES thread belong on the TXELLIS Mailing List? I do not see > the relevance to Ellis County so it appears to be off-topic. --------- Possibly it does not. I used my sig file and received a message from someone who saw the Pynes name in my list on this forum. Although that name may not have an Ellis County link, I certainly received the information via a message from this site. Perhaps it was sent privately -- I didn't check. I, too, am involved in my county historical commission and have lived in my home county all of my life, but I don't pretend to know every name that has ever lived in my county. I supposed that since whoever responded to me was on the Ellis list, that perhaps there were Pynes in Ellis County as well. Sorry if I posted something that did not belong. Hi all, What a coincidence as I just started researching my great aunt Elizabeth TIDWELL of Mart, Texas. Born 02 Apr 1905 died ? She married an Edgar B. WOOTEN born about 1899. Had a daughter Helen born about 1926. That is all the information I have to start my research. Thanks for all of the help. Yes, as with other names, there are many Wootens, I'm discovering. I'm still stuck on one branch, so I'll keep searching. The name I'm most interested in in Ellis County is COOK. I suspect that I'll have to go elsewhere for the Wooten line -- but I do appreciate all of the suggestions. "Papa" Cook (Robert Iverson) was born in Ellis County in 1883 and apparently his father died when they still lived there because I KNOW that his brother Clifford died there in 1904 and is buried in Ozro Cemetery (thanks to members of this list). The Lilly family ("Papa's" mother's second husband) were also there in 1900 (census). I know nothing about "Papa" Cook's father, Alford G. Cook. He is my brick wall right now. Thanks again. (I'll look for Wootens elsewhere.) Liz, our library has book sales every year and I'm sure other library's do also, I've noticed they always have a lot of "High School" and College annuals for sale for a lot of different years and different towns, maybe you might get lucky and find the one your looking for from the 60's. David Berry
There were Wootens in Hill and Johnson Counties also. In 1963 my daughter's first Grade Teacher was a Mrs. Wooten in Cleburne, Johnson County,Texas and when we had a mobile home at Lake Whitney abt. 1999, the neighbors across the street were named Wooten. Thanks, Peggy. I'll make a note of the Lonnie Wooten name, but unless he/she (male? female?) is interested in genealogy, it may not do me much good. I have discovered that not everyone loves genealogy as I do, especially the youngsters. We even had a friend who inherited a huge box of folders with family histories, and he THREW THEM AWAY! He said he didn't have a place to keep all that stuff! ARRRRGGGGHHHH! I'll keep that in mind, though, in case I come in contact with some other Wootens. Thanks again. If anyone has any old the o-l-d Ellis County, school annuals, I would love some pictures of my great aunts and uncles who grew there. They are the William Jones children, and the John Rotenberry children. Please inform me if anyone has any of the above. I know that all of my high school annuals were lost in a fire back in the 1980's. Of course I was in high school back in the 1960's in Abilene, Texas. I sure wish I still had them for my memories, as well as helping others. Liz rodeo88us God Bless America, Again --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Get on board.
