    3. What are the names of their children? I found two children Aaron Bernard Hill and Ernestine Hill born in Ellis County,TX, but I don't have the extended membership on Ancestry to get the name of the mother. Sorry. Maybe someone else wil read this and be able to help you that direction. jackie morgan <[email protected]> wrote: Mary, I am assuming you have checked Henderson County for a marriage record for John and Annie? Also, he had several children by his wife Annie Jewell and his 2nd wife's children who were his stepchildren. John Thomas Hill worked for the Railroad and they did move around quite a bit. The family ended up in Fort Worth, most of them, and I have something about all of them, except the Surname of first wife Annie Jewell ??? It would be easier to trace them if I could find out her Surname before she married. 2. Hi all, I wonder if there is a way to find out a marriage date of someone who married in Ellis Co., TX before 1917? My Cousin, John T., or John Taylor Hill registered for the draft for World War I in Ellis Co. in 1917. It listed his wife as named Annie Jewell, but no Surname. I am interested in her Surname, and the date they married. If anyone could help or advise would be glad. In 1920 they were living in Athens, Henderson Co., which was just a few miles from Ellis Co. THANKS in ADVANCE, Mary

    2. Mike Allen / gmallen.com
    3. I'm looking for information on Martha L Steele Rasberry. She was the mother of Zula Lee Rasberry, married to William Graves Johnson. Martha appeared in the 1900 U.S. Census in Ellis County living with William and Zula. Martha was born in Alabama in Apr 1835. Her first marriage was to Lewis F Steele in Boosier Parish, Louisiana. Lewis died in the Civil War. Martha remarried L C Rasberry in Louisiana. I assume that she died in Texas and buried here, however I have not been able to find anything in the Texas Death Index or searching the cemeteries of Ellis County. She does not appear in the 1910 Census, so I assume that she passed away between 1900 and 1910. Mike Allen

The town of Midlothian is still a small town, just no longer a small rural town. There is only 1 high school. Mansfield however has 3 large high schools. Karen (Brooks) Cotten

    1. Re: [TXELLIS] Midlothian water tower (Franks family)
    2. Hi Lisa, My Daddy was from Midlothian & lived there until he was a teenager (about 1930 or maybe earlier). My grandparents (James Alwin Thompson & Ida Pearl (Witherspoon) Thompson then moved their family (5 dtrs, 3 sons) from Midlothian (the Onward Community) to Denton County so that their children could go to college at University of North Texas &/or Texas Woman's Univ. Lots of their family stayed in Midlothian & Ellis County. One of my Daddy's (J.B. Thompson) first cousins is Oneta (Witherspoon) Sewell. The last time that I talked to her, she was still bright & funny as ever. Please ask your dad if he remembers George & Oneta Sewell. George sold insurance for years & years. Oneta, now 95, still lives in the same house on Ave. F that she moved into as a bride. It was George's parents old home & is still in great shape. I will call & ask her about your dad. Please send me his name, as well as your uncle's name that owned the hardware store. Oneta's memory about her early years is still very good if you can ask the right questions. Also, you should write to or call the Midlothian City Hall or Chamber of Commerce/Visitor's info. They have a nice map that has a picture of Oneta's house in it. They might have other brochures, etc. that you can get copies of. I've never had the time to go to the Midlothian Library - - - I think that it's part of the high school, but the Cedar Hill, TX Public Library, Waxahachie, TX Public Library, & the Lancaster, TX Public Library are supposed to have lots of good genealogy documents, etc. Also, on-line, there are some good websites with catalogued info about the cemetaries around there. They really provide good info as far as dates, names, etc. I wish that I could have done this with my dad, but if he was still alive today, I would ask him about every family member that he could remember - their full names, along with spouses, children, and how they made a living, where they were born, went to church, were buried. I'd also ask about health issues, musical , sports, or artistic talent, where was he when major world events happened. Stuff like that. I have a spiral notebook that I used to write down some of the stories & memories that my daddy had. Wish I could have filled ma! ny more notebooks before he passed away. The family names that I research in Midlothian are Thompson, Witherspoon, Berry/Barry, Ramsey, Fuller, & Sullivan. Good luck & hope that this will provide you some more info. 3. If a researcher has access to someone who does research in the Dallas Public Library (downtown) or to the central library in Houston then one can get a photostatic copy of Texas Death Certificate issued prior to ca 1970 for about twenty-five cents. There may be other libraries in Texas that own microfilm of the death certificates but those are the two I know of. I only get to Texas about once a year, but whenever I'm there I usually spend one whole day researching death certificates of folks found in my database. Some certificates are NOT very helpful, but others have provided a wealth of clues that helped me complete that particular family line. Ruth

    2. Hi, The death indexes only show the name, date of death, county and death certificate number. For W. E. Jones in Ellis County it shows his date of death as 1-5-1916 and the certificate number #1035. You can use this information to order the death certificate which will (hopefully) show the other information you need. Lisa

    3. The James Richard Jones that I referred to was the son of William E. Jones. He was the brother of John William Jones, and born in 1868, died in 1898 in Navarro County, Texas; and married Willie McWhorter, and they had three sons. 1. William Wade, born 1892 2. Royal Curtis, born June 14, 1895; died April 27, 1970 in Spur, Dickens County, Texas; married Ina Mae Rotenberry, and they had 2 sons & 1 daughter 3. James Richard, born: March/May 1898 in Stamford, Jones County, Texas (no absolute proof, but no children?, not sure if he ever married) I have written the Stamford, Texas newspaper requesting his obituary, hope I get it. It should offer some information, plus it should tell where he is buried and the funeral home, which may also offer some more family info.
