Hi Sylvia, The Elm Branch Cemetery Association is having its' annual meeting Saturday, Feb 3, 2007 at Bardwell Community Center, 504 Waxahachie Street, Bardwell, TX 75101 at 2:00 pm. Are you going to be there? I am going to "try" to be there because I have so many family members in that cemetery and I feel responsible for its upkeep. I live in Humble and I'm not sure if I can make that trip; I just got notice yesterday. Following along with my prior message, what older cemeteries are located in the immediate Ennis area? The older ones that have been surveyed and placed online do not have any of my SIMMONS in them. Someone did say there were Simmons in the old Pluto Cem but no one had surveyed it as it is, or was, greatly overgrown. Any info re Ennis area cemeteries would be greatly appreciated. Aileen in WA
Hi, I have been following the Crisp Cemetery messages along and would appreciate any available lookup for a John T. Simmons d 1899 wife Elizabeth/Lizzie d bet 1910 and 1920, and/or son Frank and wife Annie d aft 1920, all of the Ennis area. Thanks in advance, Aileen in WA
Hi Perry, I think you did my mom and brother's headstone. Mom is Bessie Lee Murchison Martin and brother is Lee Roy Martin and both were buried at Elm Branch, Bardwell, Texas. Of Course that was 20 years ago and you will not have remembered. But, my mother in law, Jimmie Gertrude Bowen Schroeder went to Heaven on 1-22-2007 and was buried on 1-25-2007 in Ennis, Texas next to her husband, Erwin Schroeder. I believe you might have done that one too. When the gate is locked, you can park on the outside of the gate and slip around the gate on the left side without too much trouble. I do it all the time when I go to that cemetery just to look at a grave, as I have a monument business in Waxahachie. Perry Giles Giles Monument Co. Hi Callie, Yep, Ernest Tubb was a famous Country/Western Singer in the 40/50's. I toodid not know he was born in Crisp, Texas. I read your other message when you asked "How do you get into the cemeterysince it's locked?". I suggest one takes two small step ladders and go tothat fence and put one step ladder next to the post on the outside of thefence and put the other step ladder on the inside next to the post; andclimb over. Since you have relatives in the ground, you are legal to govisit. There maybe a phone number on a sign next to the gate and if so,call that number and ask permission. Carl, thank you very much, I can probably find this place, I grew up around Italy and Waxahachie. One of my best friends was a Donna Martin in Waxahachie. I remember Ernest Tubb, but don't remember him being from around there, but I have forgotten a lot of things I use to know. Laurie, How would I get in, if I decided to visit the cemetery, since it is always locked except on Holidays? The graves I am looking for are before 1950. Holmes is one of the names. Thanks for your help. Laurie, I saw your posting and wondered if you have an old burial for a Barnett in the Crisp Cemetery. My great grandfather died in the latter part of the 1800s (between 1884 and 1900 we believe) and we have not been able to find where he is buried, but his family was in the Ennis, Waxahachie area. What a blessing it would be to find his burial location. Thank you in advance for checking for me. Callie, I have a list of burials from an old book I found at the Dallas Public Library. Unfortunately, I misplaced or forgot to copy the cover page of the book so I can't give you the reference. I believe it was dated some time in the 1950's, therefore my copies would not include any of the burials newer than the 1950's. If you are looking old burials, send me a list and I will check my copies.
