I suggest that the given name Vaughn may have been a middle name. There is no obvious fit in all of the 1910, 20, 30 census records for the entire US. Also, keep in mind that the use of nicknames, including on census records, was prevalent in during the turn of the 20th century period. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ray Viator Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 7:04 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TXELLIS] Census 1900 or 1910 Ellis Co. I did a search in both the 1900 and the 1910 Ellis County, Texas Censuses and did not find one Joseph. There were only two Nannies listed one with an Ollie and one with a William or Willie. I did not have enough info to check further into the Drakes of that county. Perhaps someone recalls seeing a newspaper article in the Ennis area regarding the time when the first telephone exchange was opened there, and might know which paper it was in? Just recently found out that two granddaughters of John T. and Eliz/Liz McMINN SIMMONS were among the first telephone operators in Ennis. Lily and Myrtle were daughters of Nannie Simmons and Will Kelly, Nannie daughter of John T. and Eliz. Lily married Will BAISDEN, probably early 1900s. Not yet known who Myrtle might have married. There seems to be quite a number of early Ennis papers and not knowing what year the exchange opened it is difficult to know what one to try and find. Any help appreciated. Perhaps something was written up in a history of the Ennis area or of Ellis Co. I have the pictorial history of Ellis Co book, but it covers mostly the Waxahachie area. Thanks in advance for your help. Aileen in WA ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Seeking information on my Matney-Naney families who were in Ellis County TX in the late 1800's. Charles Matney served in the Confederate Cavalry (Waller's Rangers) and has a pension file in TX archives. His Hughes Cemetery grave should be listed on your Civil War veteran burial roster. He and his father-in-law, Green William Naney, are on Tarrant Co tax lists 1860-64; they spent some time in Boone Co, AR, but were back in TX by 1900.
