    3. Can anyone remember the given name of Happy Drummond who used to have a hamburger stand in the alley behind the bank at the NW corner of the square? I was going to look him up in the "Ellis County Deaths" but then I realized that I didn't know his real name. For those readers who haven't heard of Happy Drummond, he was a beloved Scout Master of Troop 235 and there was always a waiting list of boys who wanted to join his troop. In addition, I have never eaten a better hamburger than the five cent hamburgers he sold during the 30s and 40s. I'll just bet that he has a stand behind the biggest bank in Heaven now! Tom

The only name given for him was J. A. Drummond. Here is a copy of the info in the program (it says it is from a plaque erected by Historic Waxahachie, Inc.): Happy's Place J.A. "Happy" Drummond Born April 25, 1894 / Died February 24, 1968 J.A. "Happy" Drummond established a hamburger stand on the Northwest corner of this alley in 1911, behind the Waxahachie Bank and Trust Company. The small structure, approximately 20 feet by 5 feet, was home to a simple menu of hamburgers, soft drinks, chips, and candy bars. These old -- fashioned hamburgers consisted of a toasted bun, meat, sour pickles, onions, and mustard. Everyone loved his hamburgers which sold for only 5 cents each or 6 for a quarter. Kids or grown-ups could enjoy a great meal of two hamburgers, a cold drink, chips, and a candy bar for only 25 cents. At one time or another, during almost half a century of operation, virtually everyone in Ellis County ate at "Happy's" and it was the unofficial headquarters for the youth of the community. Happy was an outstanding leader of Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster for over twenty years. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. As a longtime member of the First Methodist Church, he taught a youth Sunday School class for more than thirty years. He left his estate to establish a "Memorial Fund" for the education of young people in the fields of the ministry, missions, and other Church related educational programs. "Happy" had a profound influence on the youth of this community and was a vital factor in contributing to their success as adults. He was known as a kind and successful businessman, a youth leader, Church official and worker, counselor, and one of the few persons about whom on unkind word was ever said. "Happy" was a man who left a legion of friends and not one single enemy. This program is labeled Happy Drummond Hamburger Day October 16, 1999. Kathleen Ellis

    2. NO, I have noticed that the Mullicans were in Ellis County around 1850. My Dad didn't come to Texas until 1910, but who knows way back. The Mullikins arrive in Maryland in the late 1500's and my Dad's folks stayed in Md until around 1900. T D Mullikin 2131 Lakeridge Dr Grapevine, Tx 76051 817-421-2125

    2. I guess this is a volunteer org. They looked up the deaths on the index and then e-mailed me the info. They give the name date of death, the county where the death occurred and the file # where you can apply to the state for it. I made the mistake of sending a personal check to the state and they will not start the process until the check clears. They offer a fax service that they will charge to your credit card for faster service. The fee for the death certificate is $9 and for the fax service it is $8 more. The death certificate gives both parents name and where they were born. It gives where they were buried and the name of the funeral home and the doctor who signed the certificate My ggrandmother died in 1919 and the funeral home was Orr Hardware of Ferris. Remember that new members are joining all the time. Janice, I saw your request. I am not the one that does look-ups but I do have a little information on a Matthew Hawkins. Probably the wrong one, but who knows! I have: Mathew Hawkins, b. 8/17/1767 in N.C. Married 1787, d. 4/5/1858 in Fayette City, N.C. His Parents were John Hawkins & Eliizabeth Jones. Mathew married Ester Lytle. I thought it was possible that this Mathew was in Ellis County, Tx in 1850 and then went back to North Carolina where he died 8 years later. Hope it helps.

I do however ask that you be as specific as possible when asking for someone and please put the county name in the subject line. I am doing look ups for 42 email groups in 34 counties in 10 different states so things can get confusing if I dont have the subject line correct. I will get back to you with the results as soon as I can, please try to be patient with me. Thanks. Lesley (Baird) Prey lesley@eznet.net (originally from Cleburne, Texas) now in Batavia, New York. 3. Laura, Have I contacted you before about the Ballew line. Joseph Lawrence Ballew son of Cyrus Ballew and Martha Addington married Ella Elliott in Rains County Tx in 1888. I think Joseph had a sister but do not know of other siblings. I also do not know this sister's name. Family stories tell of a sister. Any connection? 3. Laura, Thanks for the response. We don't know much about our Ward side. Pawpaw Ward would never talk of his family. He was born in August of 1880 in Alamance, North Carolina. Since his death, we wrote to the railroad company he retired from and obtained copies of all the paper work in his file and it had his parents listed as Lark Baisley Ward and Louella Malone. I did find a L.B. Ward listed in the census records of 1860 in N.C., with the father being Brazilia Ward. Then I found a copy of a marriage record for Brazilia Ward and Cornelia Ann Hessey on December 20, 1825 in Alamance, N.C. Children listed in the house in in the 1860 census were T.A. Ward female born 1846, Lark Baisley Ward male born 1852 and E.S. Ward male born 1855. Don't know if any of these may have come to Texas or not. Sidney married Regina Sugg in New Orleans on July 12, 1912 and they were living in Houston, Texas when Doris Eugenia was born. Then they moved onto Ellis County Texas. If you see any ties please let us know. This Ward line has been a big secret! Linda Laura Burton wrote: > Dear Linda and Larry, > > Are you related to the Ward's from Italy,Tx? 2. Larry & Linda Lamb
    3. Hi, We are looking for information on my parents who both finished high school there in Ennis, Ellis County, Texas in 1939. (I was also born in Ellis County) . My parents Albert Jackson Lamb, (son of Walter Charles Lamb and Mable Christina Helmich) and Doris Eugeina Ward, (daughter of Sidney Bethel Ward and Sophia Regina Sugg,) were married in 1940. Don't know the date, if any one has marriage records, I would really appreciate the month and day on their marriage. My grandmother Mable Christina Helmich Lamb died in September of 1941 before I was born in October. Walter married 2nd Lea last name unknown. We all called her "Aunt Lea". Aunt Lea taught school there in Ennis for about 50 years, and she died 1995 at the age of 104 . If anyone can give us any information on Aunt Lea Lamb, we would very much appreciate it. We would also like the dates of death of dad's brothers Robert and Walter Charles Lamb, Jr. Thank you, Larry and Linda Lamb http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Andes/6209/
