Does anyone have a cemetery listing for Sterrett, Ellis Co., TX.? Would love to know the name of the book, or if anyone can do a look-up for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I have one source showing that my gr-gr-grandmother-Francis Ann (Reed) Stephens Oct 18, 1844 -- Mar 26, 1890 is buried there. If she is listed I would like to know the name of the cemetery, and would love to have a copy for my reference, also if there is any other relatives-Stephens buried there also. I will be happy to pay for copies, handling and postage. You can write me at jac@bigcountry.net Happy New Year!! Dear Harold Gosnell You asked about Latham in Boz, Maypearl, 1801 and 1827. Are you sure you dont mean 1901 and 1927? I have researched Ellis county for a few years, and my understanding is that the first settlers in Ellis came in the 1840s. In fact I correspond with someone who thinks his ancestor, Wm G Howe, was the first settler in Ellis in about 1842, if I read him right. I have ancestors buried in a small cemetery about 5 miles west of Maypearl, and they came in the 50s, when it was well established. The Ellis co archives will have a lot of info - which I saw from a few months ago from the messages about families in Maypearl. Someone said Maypearl was a railroad town at first, but I guess the railroad is gone. The Ellis county homepage will have the history of Ellis, or you could just ask, someone will be glad to tell you what you want to know. I believe the history of Boz was in the Ellis county Quarterly last year. I would be glad to tell you myself, but I have already told you more than I know. H G (Doc) Henderson, papadoc@olywa.net

Hello everyone! I got a MAPSCO for Christmas! It includes Ellis County, with detailed sections of north and central Ellis County and the areas around Maypearl, Italy, and Rice. It also includes the counties of Hill, Navarro, Johnson, and Ellis counties, with parts of McClennan, Bosque, and Freestone Counties. Please email me privately for anything not pertaining to Ellis County. Hope y'all had a Merry Christmas! Kathleen Ellis
Not an apparent connection. My Julia Adeline CARTER b.1861 Florida - married in Henderson County, Tennessee James Abner WEBB. Her brothers and sisters scattered after 1870 from Georgia into Tennesse and Texas - but I don't have much on them. I don't see your Chesterfield Robinson Carter - so I cannot say. If your CARTER come from the Wiregrass area of Georgia (lower counties next to Florida) I have much information. If you have an "Ancil" or a "Creech" as a family name I have a connection. If you can tie to President Jimmy CARTER I can show you a connection to my line. That's about all I find now... good luck Ken MohundroPA@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 12/23/1999 1:20:06 AM Eastern Standard Time, > TXELLIS-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: > > << > Researching WEBB, CARTER, ODOM/ODUM, HINES, SWEENEY mom's side - 1879 from > Tennessee to Ellis County, Texas. > >> > > My grandmother was a Carter from Murfreesboro, TN. born in 1880. Hello Kenneth, Saw you had associated families, of Patterson. I have been looking for a Polly Young b. about 1875 in Indiana...the family moved to Waxahachie by 1900...my Mom said she remembers her by the name Polly Patterson and she lived in Texas. I am assuming she met a Patterson fellow and was married in Ellis County, since she is not on the census with the rest of the family in 1900 in Waxahachie..by any chance is Polly in your files?? Does anyone have any inf. on my g g Aunt Polly?? Merry Christmas!! Sterrett is still there. Using MapQuest.com, go north from Waxahachie up US 77, 4 or 5 miles. You have to use the 300m/900ft scale for it to show the town name. Gerald Busby Dallas TX --- > ... Sterrett may be part of Waxahachie, Tex by > now. ... > Warren Mote > Buford, Georgia

Warren, Boy, you really caught me with this one. I had not read the "From:" line and, when I saw the "...boy scout cycling merit badge in 1941," I wondered who the kid was that I had probably known. Then I saw that he was you and that I almost certainly was riding with you when you/we "visited each of them." Do you remember seeing the kids swinging out on a rope over the swimming hole in that creek? It's nice when someone's request for information brings back memories that are almose sixty years old. More than a year ago I asked if people on this list would be interested in sending in information about what used to be in Waxahachie and in Ellis County. A couple of weeks ago, Happy Drumond was very nicely remembered on this list. Now, perhaps some reader can tell us about Loyce "Pop" Sessions who was a scout master in Waxahachie during the early '30s. Pop even had a younger group of boys that he called "Rangers." Perhaps one or more of his boys can tell us more. One more request, does anyone have any pictures, or know someone who has, of that fantastic "roller" stage curtain of the Chatauqua Auditorium in Waxahachie? I just can't think of many things I would rather have for Christmas than a copy of a picture of the curtain. Thanks for the memories! Tom wmote1@juno.com wrote: > E. C. E. C. McDuffie, North Grove Creek joins up with South Grove Creek about a mile south of Sterrett wanders south east past Ike and then turns north and passes close to Palmer. These are shown on my 20-30 year old General Highway map of Ellis County, Texas. Sterrett may be part of Waxahachie, Tex by now. All three communities were in existence when I visited each of the while earning the boy scout cycling merit badge in 1941. The map shows church symbols along the creek, but no church names. I hope this narrows your search some.
