Hi, Does anyone know what newspapers are available for the Ferris, Ellis Co about 1894or 1895 and again for the years of 1898/99? Is there a index to them? Are there any death indexes for the 1890s in Ellis Co,? Also does anyone know of farm schedules taken or a state census for this decade, school rolls or city directories? I need something to help me find out about the Elias Harrison Clements family and his sister Joanne McCarver, who were Ferris in the 1890s. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Robin
Hello, I just received the following info and wondered if anyone had the book "History of Ellis Co, TX - 1892", pg 540 that could do a look up for me: William Jasper SHELTON was not only in the CSA, he also served in the Mexican War (History of Ellis Co, TX - 1892, p. 540). This information is given in the biography of I. N. MORRIS who was his brother-in-law, but the name is misspelled and it say W. J. SHOTTON. There is also a biography of a V. H. SHELTON, son of J. R. & Jennie A. This states that the father of J. R. SHELTON was a J. W. SHELTON who md. a Miss DOWDY, daughter of Richard DOWDY. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Elaine Trussville, Alabama
Hello, Can anyone tell me what kind of information is on the 1890s ag. schedule if there is one for Ellis Co? I am looking for Harrison Elias Clements who was supposed to be in Ferris, Ellis Co in the early 1890s. Or is there some sort of city directory for Ferris during this period? Thank you, Robin

My gg uncle, Charley Railey (born 1884) left Ky after the death of his father in 1900. He eventually settled in Ellis CO, Tx, where he met and married a Maymie (Mamie) Johnson. They had 3 children: Daisy, Cora and Ruby. I am having no luck finding any other information on them and am hoping that another researcher might be able to shed some light on this part of my family. To the best of my knowledge, Daisy is the only child of Charleys who married, and the only info I have on that is that her husband was a CHAPMAN. I believe that Charley died sometime before 1930, probably closer to 1925. Any help will be appreciated. Jill in Ky

I an seeking information on Griffin Iredell Rutherford, born Giles County, TN 1875, married Ida Catherine (?), died about 1838 in Waxahatchie, Texas. I am trying to determine if the following Wm. G. Rutherford is the father if this Griffin Iredell Rutherford. Information from Wm G. Rutherford's pension application received from Tennessee State Archives: Application, dated Dev 17, 1903, states that he was a member of Company G, 3rd Regiment Ala Cav., C. S. A., paroled at Moulton, Ala at close of the war. "not wounded but taken with Pneumonia which settled in hip, back & shoulder, was sent to hospital where I remained over three months and then sent home where I was confined to bed for several years after the war, was taken with Pneumonia in 1864, at Huntsville Ala." Additional facts touching his disability and discharge from the army: "I was confined in the hospital at Huntsville, Ala, from Dec. 1863 to March 13, 1864, sick with rheumatism and pheunonia which settled in my throat and lungs leaving me permanently afflicted with a severe cough. I was a stout healthy man before these diseases were contracted in the service. In March 1864 the Surgeon Dr. Gill called in three other Doctors. They removed my clothing and after a thorough examination agreed that I would not be able for service for long time if ever. Then the hospital surgeon sent for my Captain, Josephus Shackleford, and explained to him that I was simply a burden on the service, that I would probably never be fit for service again, certainly not for a long time, and suggested that I be sent to my home at Moulton, Ala. I was sent home on sixty days furlough. At expiration of that time the post Surgeon at Moulton, Dr. Van Eaton, had the furlough renewed as I was still sick. I remained at home in this way, too sick for duty, till the close fo the war when I was paroled at Moulton. Have never been a well man since. Most of the material witnesses to these statements are dead or their places of residence unknown to me." Signed: W. G. This year some of you will be able to file your 2000 census electronically. I know most genealogists will send in their census forms, but not too many people know about this electronic form. Supposedly, his parents were JOSEPH B. COOK (Dec. 15?, 1842-Jan. 1888?), m. to ANN GOLDSMITH (b. 1845-d. July 1880?). Their children were (in addition to HENRY): ARTIE, OSCAR, ESSIE, and JOSEPH (Called TOAD). ANN GOLDSMITH COOK and JOSEPH B. COOK are buried in Ellis County. Thank you, Christine Cook Stone

Patsy Do you have access to the 1900 Ellis Co Census? If you don't mind could you look up. Thomas Beaty,(his mother was Rose Tribet), and Ada Hines Beaty (her parents were Hiram and Maria Hines) John Clemons and Mattie Zollicoffer Clemons (her parents were William and Anna Zollicoffer).Clemons may have seen spelled Clements. I have reached a stone wall because I didn't have a copy of the 1900 census to see if they lived in Milford. This is the county they should have been in. Thank you so much if you can help. Or anyone else who has access to these records.
