Good idea Carol; I have grandparents, William P. and Heleon(Garner) MITCHELL lived on a farm on Ovilla route near Midlothian/Waxahachie. Their daughter Effie Cordell Mitchell was my Mother. My great grandparents, Robert P and Laura (Anderson) MITCHELL lived immediately East (I believe that's what I was told) of my grandparents. They came to Ellis County around 1875. They, and other family members are buried at Shiloh Cemetery. To the immediate West of Grandpa Will Mitchell lived my Father's uncle, Wallace (Wallis) and Fannie HAYES. When my father visited Uncle Wallace from Fisher County, he and my Mother met. My grand father , Oscar Henry HAYES, and great grandfather, John Wesley HAYES, has Ellis County roots. Many members of the HAYES family are buried at Midlothian Cemetery. I still have relatives that live in the area, but don't know most of them well. I know their names, they know mine ( or my Mother's). Most do not share my obsession with genealogy, so I am seeking information through other channels. MITCHELL names include (2 generations) James(?), Grover, Dewitt, Hattie*, Carrie*, Mary(called Babe)* (* all married LAVENDAR brothers) Maggie (married Albert THOMPSON); Bertha (m1 Bliss Cavendar, m2 Charlie Bailey), Jesse, Bob, Herman. HAYES names Lillie Etta, Molly, Dona, Fred, Edgar, Fay, Ira, Glad to share any information I have. ----- Original Message ----- From: Carol Couch <ccouch@ancestry.com> To: <TXELLIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 5:29 PM Subject: [TXELLIS] E mail > I have really been interested in all of the activity on this list lately. My ties to Ellis county are with my gg grandmother who family folklore indicates died in Ennis TX in 1920. Her name was Emma? or Emaline? or possibly Telitha E. Kennedy (possibly maiden name Sargent). She was b. Yates City, Knox Co. IL in 1848. Married Robert J. Kennedy and in 1870 they were in Elba Twnsp, IL. They moved to Kansas City, MO. (possibly Shelby Co. MO first) where Robert died in 1894. They had 3 children -- George Elmer -- b. 1873, Nettie or Nellie b. 1875, and Martha R (Rosia or Rose) b. 1877 all b. in Yates City, IL. I do not have any marriage dates for the daughters but believe that Nettie (Nellie) may have married a Nylen? I think that Emma might have gone to Ennis to be with siblings or children. She may also have remarried? Hello All, None of this information posted recently has benefited me in the least. However, I just delete what doesn't pertain to me. I would like to remind everyone that what you post is kept in the ROOTS-L archives. So a year from now or whenever, if someone checks those archived messages and finds something that was posted to this list that helps them with solving their family mysteries - isn't that what it's all about? Please keep posting all this wonderful information - you never know when it will help someone else. If all this valuable data is sent only to the person who inquired about it - that data will not be posted into the archives to help future researchers. If you haven't searched ROOTS-L archives - it's a wonderful tool. Use this URL: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and enter (using all upper-case letters) TXELLIS. Once there, just put in a word that will bring up your interest; i.e. - Ennis or Waxahachie or Jones or whatever. This search engine can be used for all the mailing lists run by ROOTS-L. If you want to check any county in Texas, just enter TXKAUFMA for example. It's always the state first, then six letters of the county name. But wait <grin> there's more. Use this search engine for surnames too, or special interest lists. If in doubt, go to the main ROOTS-L webpage and see what all they can do for you. You people who do volunteer work for these lists are top-notch folks! Thanks, Janice Mauldin Castleman

My great grandmother was Mollie Butcher. She married Jessie Baltis Hinkle. My grandmother Maggie Hinkle married my grandfather William Paris Briley in Ellis County. The Briley's were on there way to Grayson County after the civil war. They left White Oak, Tennessee (Perry County) and stopped in Waxhachie for how long I am not sure. I am interested in the Butcher line, Hinkle and Briley. I am Carol Brily Gust
I have just finished deleting a couple of dozen TXELLIS-L@rootsweb.com responses from folks who have requested Milford info. I suspect that in almost every instance the business could, and should, have been conducted by sending a private response message to the other individual rather than sending a public message to all members of the list. I recognize that I am just as guilty of this error as are those whose messages filled my incoming mail box. Therefore, in the future, I will try to remember to click on the email address of the person for whom my message is intended. Thanks, Tom
Hello listers, My ties to Ellis County are in Waxahachie and Mc Kinney through my grandparents and great grandparents. My great grandfather, Peter T. CRISLER, I have not been able to find his birth/death date. He was married first to a Laura J. (do not know her last name) March 05, 1853, - February 11, 1890. They had two (?) children, Jimmie H. CRISLER, August 02, 1883, - February 03, 1890, and CRISLER, July 09, 1877, - January 21, 1886. All the dates are from their tombstones in the Waxahachie City Cemetery. Peter T. CRISLER married (second) my great grandmother, Laura Sophia NYCUM KENNEDY, Abt. 1864 - Abt. 1944. They had two children, Walter CRISLER and Vera Mae CRISLER. Vera Mae CRISLER, Abt. 1893 - December 28, 1980, married Bolivar TIDWELL, December 09, 1887 - September 1963. P. T. CRISLER was a grocer in Waxahachie and Bolivar TIDWELL was a jeweler and optometrist. Any information on these people would be greatly appreciated as I am not having much luck! Rhanks so much, Denise
I am researching the Smithwick, Sims, and recently the Car Forrest family. My Grandfather was born in Milford (probably on a farm) later moved to Forreston where he grew up. After his marriage to Minnie Walker he moved briefly to San Saba County. Then to Sterrett where several of the children grew up. Later they moved back to Forreston where they lived until their deaths. His in the 1970s, and hers in 1994. I don't have much information on the Sims, but my grandmother had a niece that was a Sims. Car Forrest married a Virginia Sims. Forrest keeps showing up in many of the reference materials that I have read so I am wanting to know more about this gentleman, who founded the little town given his name, "Forreston". Let me hear from you if you have info on these families or the Forreston community. Carol Vincell
Hi Pat, My husbands family was Elias Harrison Clemons(Clements) born abt. 1852 in LA went to East Texas them on to Dallas and maybe Ellis Co. by 1882. He had a sister Joanne McCarver, and maybe two more brothers Augustus and ?. They were orphaned while young and lived with a family that ended up changing the spelling to Clements I've been told.)
