It is quite possible that the records you are looking for will be at the Ennis High School Library. Alot of the students went there, depending on the area they lived in. The others went to Waxahachie High School. Forreston is South of Waxahachie, just off I-35. See last paragraph for Ellis Co. arrivals... -----Original Message----- From: James Steve Sanders [mailto:sandking@usit.net] Sent: Saturday, April 29, 2000 1:45 PM To: TNGILES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Fw: [TNGILES-L] Wagon Train 1879/1880 to Texas It was recently asked on this mailing list, if anyone knew about the wagon trains that left Giles County for Texas during 1879. Although I have not found anything about a specific wagon train that might have left about this time, I have come across several references to people traveling to Texas and Arkansas, either on a excursion trip or to move there during this time frame. I am posting what I have found so far. Maybe this will be of interest to someone. I will periodically post anything that I find pertaining to migration to Texas or other states if this is acceptable to those on this mailing list. Maybe someone's ancestor's will appear on the list. >Spelling and punctuation are as they appear in the newspapers. > >The Pulaski Citizen, July 8, 1880 edition. >Brick Church News > > The is some talk of an excursion train in August for points in Arkansas >and Texas, giving all who may have friends in either state, and others who >may wish to see the country ,a chance to go at a very low rate. > >The Pulaski Citizen, August 26, 1880 edition. >Milltown News > > Of the number contemplating going to Texas soon, is Mr. Frank Chapman, >the successor of Mr. William Hardeman, mail carrier on this route. My Grandfather, William S. Foote and his family, plus his father, Livington B. Foote and his family, moved from Itawamba County, Mississippi to Ellis County, Texas arriving there about May 1900. Almost immediately they began having serious family problems, mostly sickness and death. They became so discouraged that they returned to Mississippi in 1903. While they were in Texas, my great GF, Livington B. Foote, died and was buried in Telico cemetary February 14, 1902. Also, the youngest daughter of William and my Grandmother died June 17 1902 and also was buried in Telico cemetary, Her name was Hester. Also, only two months after arriving in Ellis County, the infant son of W. L. Foote and his wife Martha, was stillborn and was buried in Telico. I will appreciate very much if someone could check for possible obituaries. I would be happy to for their time and miscellaneous expenses. Many thanks for your time. Sorry to answer you late after responding to another Ellis County Hines researcher. My messages are set up to read backwards order... I mentioned my Ellis County HINES were originally from San Antonio and before that Leavenworth Kansas - before that in Kentucky and Virgina. It has been impossible to connect with any Ellis County HINES so far. I did not see any connection with our lines - alas... Shirley, Yes, we need the info on Pink Sharp. It may clarify the information we have. I've forwarded your message to my husband's older brothers and sister. They may remember more about Pink. Thanks, Helen
The HINES family I have come from Leavenworth, Kansas - originally from Bowling Green Kentucky and Virginia. They are from the Henry Hines, Sr. line shown in the Hines Genforum. At this time I don't see a connection - but I don't have all the Texas HINES...
