Hi, Okay, I am going to jump in here and ask if anyone on the list can relate this James Bynum of Ellis County to the Bynums/Murphrees of Blount County, Alabama. I know he is related, but I do not know how. At one time many families in Waxahachie, Maypearl, Midlothian, Mountain Peak etc. had ties back to Blount County, Alabama. Thanks, Ann (Kiker) Turk....a Murphree in disguise. I looked for a John Owens in the Ellis County phone book and there is no John Owens listed. Sorry!
I don't know about a town called Buena Vista but there is a Buena Vista Road which goes from Waxahachie to Maypearl and is parallel to FM 66 which also goes from Waxahachie to Maypearl. Both towns are located in Ellis County and are ten miles apart. I wonder if the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce might know or the Waxahachie or Ellis County Historical Society might know? You might call the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and ask them who you might contact for information. The Chamber of Commerce phone number is 972-937-2390.
Does anyone know where Buena Vista would have been in 1905? In the Ellis Co. TX death records, a John Paul died there in 1905. I believe this might have been my ancestor but need the location to tie it to his land. Thanks. Susan

Anita, I was over at the FHC today and checked out the Waxhatchie Cemetary here is what I found for your friend, Virginia: Rouseau, C. C. b: 24 Sep 1834 d: 2 Jan 1917 Rouseau, Bethenia b: 5 Sep 1839 d: 12 Mar 1910 w/o C. C. They are buried in the 2nd addition block 1 note the spelling of the last name, but with the wife's name listed I am sure they are the same ones. Did you want me to check the 1900 or 1910 census for her?? Dian

There were some Wilson's in Sardis Cemetery as I was surfing through the cemetery data on the Ellis Co webpage. I'm sure that there are some in the other cemeteries in Ellis Co., but I do remember seeing some at Sardis. Kay Frank I am NOT researching this line. Also, the tombstone projects on txgenweb and usgenweb have a lot of the cemetery data for the many various counties in TX.
Just another note on the map subject..........I just bought a Texas Atlas & Gazetteer put out by DeLorme at Sams Club for $14.98. It also has the back roads in it. Jean Fish

Edgewood Cemetery just south of Lancaster is old. It is the oldest cemetery in Lancastcer, dating back to the 1850's. It has the graves of those who settled there -- Roderick Rawlins, James Lemmon, and more. One can find out more about who is buried there by contacting the Lancaster Cemetery Association, 1412 Wilson Rd. Lancaster, TX 75146. I spoke with one of the leaders last year. She was located at the Byron Funeral home - 972-227-2121. She sent me a photocopy of the records of my relatives buried there. It was wonderful. Some of the oldest headstones (1852, etc) were almost illegible, but their records were complete. Have a great day. I have no idea what the childrens names were, but his sons would be in their 80's. Would there be a way to check him? Linda

Hello all, Sorry, but I did not keep a copy of the post that discussed the ancestor who was buried "2 miles from Lancaster". I got out my Mapsco of Dallas and I have found 2 cemeteries in Lancaster which might meet your needs? The one that I said I remembered is named Edgewood cemetery. It has been a very long time since I have been by there, but I remember it seemed old. The other cemetery is not named, but it is located off of Main street, so I am not sure how old it is. This is not necessarily a complete list. I thought the Mapscos were pretty complete on cemeteries, but I just noticed that there is one between Duncanville and DeSoto that is not listed, and it is fairly old as well. Hope this helps, please let me know if you need anything else, or if I can find something on the Mapsco for you. Kathleen

We take it on every road trip and it has a lot of details about the backroads and small towns and communities. There are icons for churches and cemeteries, but it is not complete, of course, and many are not named on the map. This may have been rectified in later versions, as I know that many of the unnamed roads on my map have since been labeled on newer ones. Another wonderful resource is the Mapsco. They are produced in Dallas. The Ellis county mapsco also contains Johnson county (if I remember correctly) and is available for about $20.00. I have not been able to find one of these used. I have an old Dallas Mapsco, that I found at a garage sale for $3.00 and it is the some of the best money I have ever spent. Kathleen
Anita, I can't help you in your search but, perhaps you may help me. :^) I went to school. and was in the Boy Scouts, with Donald Rouseau in Waxahachie back during the late thirties, graduating from Waxahachie High in 1942. On the off chance that the family your friend is looking for is actually "Rouseau" or some such, and/or someone with that general name responds to your request, I would really like to contact, hear about, etc., my old friend, Donald. He would be in his middle seventies now if still among the living. Thanks, Tom Mote billy prewitt wrote: > Viarginia Hayes, is looking for her family Calvin C. Roussean, and > Bethania Dobbs. Just my 2 cents. I bought my Roads of Texas at Wal-Mart for less than $15.95. Also, amazon.com carries these road atlas books for all the states. I have one for every state my ancestors come from. When I hit the back roads, and I DO mean backroads, looking for cemeteries and old homeplaces, I have one eye on the road and another on my The Roads of . . . . My husband even found Camp Creek Cemetery in Robertson County on this map. I found Coddle Creek cemetery in North Carolina. Texas Highway Dept. also puts out a great book on the towns in Texas. I picked up mine when I came back from a trip to Virginia. I make it a habit of stopping at all the Welcome Centers as I cross state lines. They have the most current and the best maps, better than AAA. On the subject of maps, the Texas Government Land Office has county maps with all the early patents on them. Just in case anyone didn't know that. A fellow time traveler, Barbara
There is a Johnny Owens who lives in the Maypearl area. Is he one of John Owens' sons? Susan
I'll try to email you a list soon. One of the Wilson families in Maypearl and my family are related through the Bynum's. Do you have any Bynum's in your family? Susan
