    3. Hi Mary Ellen, I wish I knew. My gggrandfather was Sgt. I Blufford Elliott. he married Martha Armstrong Hamilton in Cass County. he served in the 17th TN inf. co. G. b.7/21/1839 d. 3/11/1923 ....I am not sure if he was born in TN or not and I do not know who his family was..that is all still a mystery to me. I know he had several children..Sarah Princess, Robert H, Isaac Blufford Jr. and I am not sure of the rest. I got the civil war info off his headstone this past week and at least it gave me a clue. I searched the net and found his company but he was listed as J B not IB..no wonder he has been so hard to find..but the information was the same as the family bible...that he was a prisoner during the war. I know this is not much help but maybe you will recognize something... thanks for trying, Laura RESEARCHING:BOYD,MCELVEEN,AMYETT,HUGHEN,ROGERS ELLIOTT,MCKEE,HAMILTON

    2. Tommy Stephenson
    3. I am seeking information on Mrs. W.H. Smith who was living in Waxahachie,TX. in 1908. Her maiden name was Rosa Stephenson. Her father was Sylvester Brown Stephenson b. 1837 probably in the the counties of Limestone or Madison in Alabama. Sylvester Brown Stephenson married Mary Holt in Limestone County,Al. in 1857. In 1861, He joined Ward's Artillery in Madison County,Al. He was at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountion and was in the Dalton-Atlanta Campain. His battery was overrun at the Battle of Selma,Alabama and he finished the war with the 28th TN. Cavalry. He belonged to the Winnie-Davis Camp of Confederate Vets. in Waxahachie in the early 1900's where he applied for the Confederate Cross of Honor. He died at the home of Mrs. W.H. Smith on April 7,1908, who lived on Lake Park Ave. in Waxahachie,TX. Newspaper accounts claimed he was buried in the City Cemetery, but he is not listed in the City Cemetery records. All I have on his the initials on Mrs. W.H. Smith. Mrs. W.H. Smith had a brother named Allen W. Stephenson. He is said to have died young. Sylvester, his wife,Mary Holt, and Willam A. Stephenson had their pictures taken at the Littlefield photography Studio in Cleburne,TX. in the 1880'or 1890. From information on the back of one of the pictures,The Holts or Stephensons had relatives in Waxahachie by the names of Brown and Fogg. Is there a 1900 Census of Ellis County? The Stephensons, and Holts lived in Giles County,TN. before moving to Alabama. Its possible that W.H. Smith might also have been from those counties. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    2. I would imagine that the Sims Library in Waxahachie will be open Friday and Saturday. It is closed on Monday. I don't know about the museums. The records building in downtown Waxahachie should be open on Friday. This is where the birth, deaths, and land deeds are stored. Of course, it will only be open Friday.

    2. You can find the deed records across the street from the courthouse. (Waxahachie) I don't know if they will be open on Fri. I was recently there on a Monday and the library was closed but the Visitor's Information Center was open and even tho the museum was not open, the man in charge of the information center let us look around in the museum. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------352149FE101D6B570A6AB4F0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit There is a slight problem with Nancy Murphree. She married Benjamin Ellis on 27 July 1821. Benjamin was the son of Jeremiah Ellis and Dicey Wilson. Since Solomon's 2nd marriage was 20 Jan 1823, it is not possible that Nancy was a child of Mary. She had to be born abt 1799-1800 which would fit with Solomon's 1830 census. This would make her a sister of Hannah and not half-sister. They married different Ellis men. 1. [TXELLIS] CAUTION RE TEXAS MAP BOOKS
    2. TO: TCELLIS -L members. There has been some exchanges lately about "THE ROADS OF TEXAS", Published 1988 by Shearer Publishing, Fredericksburg, TX. That map book is very good for finding out-of-the way places like Fincastle, a ghost town in Henderson where my great grandmother was buried in 1879. There is nothing left there except a rural church and a small cemetery. It was not in the index but some time with a magnifying glass turned it up. Another case in point. The cemetery at Maypearl shows in that mapbook. By comparison, the Delorme "Texas Atlas and Gazetteer" doesn't even have an emblem for a cemetery in the legend and many small towns are missing. I'm sure the DeLorme was made with the latest cartographic technology but I'm afraid that the technicians and the editor fail to understand this overwhelming desire of genealogists to tromp around in old cemeteries. I hold no stock in Shearer Publishing but I've had a long intimate relationship with their product, The Roads of Texas" and highly recommend it. Someone said there was a 2nd edition out and if so, I'll have a copy as soon as I can. Happy Hunting! Clyde Deavers Lady Lake, FL
