    1. [TXEASTLA] Great Find
    2. That is a great find you gave us on the Reb and Yank official records. In only a few minutes of looking I made a couple of hits and am sure others will follow. By the way, if any are interested in the 10th Texas Infantry during the so-called Civil War, the URL below is a wonderful place to look. A number of men who served in that unit are buried in Eastland County. There are several in the Pioneer Cemetery at Ranger where the Sons of the Confedercy placed a marker to that effect. Scott McKay of Georgia is the webmaster and became interested in the 10th Texas when he and other re-enactors picked Co. K of the 10th to represent at encampments. While battlefield hopping a while back I met by accident a park historiqn. When asked what man he protrayed he said: Capt. Overton Davenport. He is my great-grandfather and buried in Pioneer Cemetery. McKay has had some help from myself and others, but has carried most of the load on his shoulders to produce the great website. It would be agreat help if by looking at the roster and letters (there is much more) you might find an ancester or someone you know something about and offer your knowledge to Scott. Overton Davenport (also a former state representative from Coryell County), and brothers State Sen. Jouitt Harbert Davenport and John Andrew Davenport arrived in Eastland County about the time the railroad did. Jouitt published the county's first newspaper, The Eaastland Review, in 1876. The office was in a frame building on what is now the northwest corner of the square where Walters Grocery was for a number of years. I believe J.H. was Eastland County's first senator after the creation of the county government. He was serving as such for Hamilton and other frontier line counties when he moved from Corell County to Eastland County. He and his wife are buried in the Eastland Cemetery. http://members.aol.com/SMckay1234/index2.htm
