Hill, in the book History of Eastland County by Mrs. George Langston, 1904, I only have parts of a few pages, there is listed: "School District No 38 - Britton, Annie Brooks, Mamie Brooks, Trustees: A C Brown, H B Bue, R L Rowe, F M Stone".. I have no date to that entry. As for Carbon: book says... 1881 first lot in Carbon was sold to N S Haynes who put up a small business house. An attempt to move the town three miles east having failed, J F White established a lumber yard, Mr. Fowler and son put up a cotton gin, and Mr Train taught school. ....number of business houses in this little town, shops, hotels, and gins, a good weekly newspaper, with a hustling editor. its bank soon to open in its own brick building. its Baptist and Methodist churches, Masonic hall and neat two story school building, .... ...among the enterprising business people of Carbon are Finley Bros, dry goods. T J Morris, general merchandise. Puett and Son dry goods. W A Seastrunk, hotel, and many others... there are nearly 600 inhabitants. The Herald, published by W T Curtis, editor and proprietor, pleases its readers and pays its advertisers, and is strictly a local and county newspaper. ..... only clean advertising from clean people is inserted. Bank of Carbon W H Eddleman president, W A Waldrop vice president J E Spencer cashier. Findley Brothers.... W P Finley...member of this firm were born in TN and emigrated to TX with their parents and other brothers in 1867. ... general merchandis business est. in 1895... A C Poe MD born in Magnolia Ark came to Carbon in 1896..... with brother C B Poe as a partner, the doctor in interested in a lumber and various business interests maintains an extensive practice. As an evidence of the prosperity of the people of this section, and of their integrity as well, they pay anaverage 95 % of their physician's accounts. T J Morris, Merchant....1893 Morris began business in Carbon..handles everything in a general merchandise line....besides dry goods and groceries, hardware and every conceivable kind of farming implement, he handles furniture and undertaker's goods.
