Hi Terry, I'll dig around and see if I have any info on Henleys - it sure rings a bell. My great-grandparents (Lemuel and Pharaby Burton) lived in Carbon, and some of their offspring lived in the area and in Kokomo (James and Dora Noel). I seem to recall a Henley buried at Bear Springs, but I'll have to look at my list in the next day-or-so and make sure. I really look forward to reading the book you mentioned. I'm very interested in that period of time around Bear Springs, Carbon, and Kokomo since I had so many relatives there. Any mention of Burtons, or Noels that you recall (there was a divorce and a suicide, so should have made the news, although that would have been about 1905)? Quite an exciting prospect! Hello, I am new to this list. I am trying to find the final resting place of my great grandfather, William Alexander (Alex) White. He left MS for Gorman, TX in 1907, along with some of his children and grandchildren. They were: James Wesley White Henry and Ellen (White) Henley and their children Annie (White) Hutcherson and her two children Another of his daughters had already moved to Gorman with her husband about 1903. Their names were John P. and Mary (White) Carter. They are buried in the Gorman Cemetery. I would like very much to correspond with their descendents. The Henleys lived in Gorman for a year or so before settling in Kokomo, north of Gorman. One of their sons (my second cousin?) Julius Henley, wrote a book about his life, including much about his life in Kokomo. There is a lot of information about the families and the area at the time. I have a copy of the book, called "A Boy from Kokomo". There are some missing pages. As soon as I can get them from another cousin, I plan on scanning the book into electronic form and will reprint it so the library at Gorman can have a copy. Annie Hutcherson eventually remarried an A.Y Blanton and they lived in Blanket, TX. She died in the 1950's. They are buried in the Blanket Cemetery along with her daughter Wilma who died young. James married Eula Henley, Henry's daughter from a previous marriage. They are on the 1910 census as living in Eastland. They eventually settled in Ft. Worth. Here's my problem: in the book written by my cousin, it states that Alex is buried in the Gorman Cemetery, as well as two of the Henley's children and one of James' children. I didn't find any of them at the Gorman Cemetery. I made another trip to Gorman last Wednesday and talked to the great little lady at the library. She had a list of the people buried in the Gorman Cemetery, but none of these names are there. She sent me to the funeral home where I saw a map with lots of little cemeteries in the area. I went to as many as I could find but still could not find Alex. There is also no death certificate for him at the Eastland courthouse. There is a chance that he died in Comanche County, since Gorman is right on the line. I haven't heard back from Comanche County yet. Does anyone know the whereabout of the following people's graves? William Alexander White 1831-1907 Lutie May Henley 1893-1907 Charles Leroy Henley 1907-1909 Lonnie Delmore White 1909-1909 Does anyone know if John and Mary Carter's descendents still live in the Gorman area? I would really like to find them. Thanks, Terry
I am hoping to get some new leads. MANN, Eugenia D. b: 9 JAN 1878 in AL d: 15 JUL 1969 in Cisco,Eastland,TX m. John A PURSELL 8 DEC 1895 in Clay Co.,AL one known child Allie D. b Apr 1897. TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD > NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women, our Fire fighters, and Police officers for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed. ________________ Chaplain Breyer BBCFD God Bless, Angela My Family Tree Main Tree line Branches WATSON ROBINSON PERRY KIMBRO/UGH BINYON JACKSON MERRIMAN HISER DWYER SMILEY JOHNSON BOYD WEDDLE KINNINGHAM ANDREWS NALL STEPHENS ROBISON

Hi, I'm a new subscriber to the list, and wanted to ask if there are any descendants of Burton, Noell, Snow, Worley, Wharton, or Bender here? I'd like to contact some descendants to learn more about my family members from the area (mostly around Carbon, TX, some moved to Cisco). The Burtons and Noells moved to Carbon around 1885 and their families grew from there. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks, Wilson

Hi, I was born in Ranger in 1924. My parents were William Sewell "Bill" Denman and Edith Cornelius Denman. My father's sister, Jennie Maude "Jean" Sewell Williams also lived in Ranger and later my grandmother, Stella May Sewell Denman Ivey Hampton, lived and died there. I attended St. Rita's Academy for two years before we moved to East Texas. My father worked for Sinclair Oil and Gas. My maternal grandparents also lived there: Walter L. Cornelius and Julia Tackett Cornelius. They had nine children, most of whom attended Ranger schools. If you knew any of my family, or if you have biographical information on them, I'd love to see it. If you're in the same line, I'd be happy to trade information with you. Permanent address: Jeanne D. Hale <jdhale@iName.com> Forwards to <jdhale@texramp.net>
