Hello, I am proud to announce the creation of a new mail list called TX-Cemeteries. This list has the encouragement of Gerron S. Hite, Cemetery Preservation Coordinator in the History Programs Division of the Texas Historical Commission gerron.hite@thc.state.tx.us and he's excited at the opportunity to share his feelings about our cemetery preservation to a large group all at once Others that have been notified, Lee Campbell, Past Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society {and my cousin} and her friend, Past President of the TSGS Wanda Donaldson. I've let all the following people know about the list and they may join from time to time. Yvonne Pickens, current President of the TSGS. Trey Holt, coordinator for the Texas GenWeb. Wyndell Taylor, creator of GA Cherokee County GenWeb page, {and my cousin}. <Smile> I just have a lot of cousins !!!! The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address. I am an experienced RootsWeb mail list admin. Currently I manage the mail list for VARoots, SC-Old Pendleton-District, and the Brand surname list. Donna, the lead technician, of the RootsWeb Help Desk has complimented me with a request to join her on the RootsWeb desk, which made me feel really good, but my main focus is our cemeteries. I am also experienced in the survey of large and small cemeteries. In addition to the topics above there will be discussions on how to preserve and restore old monuments with the help of a caretaker with over 25 years experience. To join the mail list simply send a message to TX-Cemeteries-L-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. If you prefer the Digest send a message to TX-Cemeteries-D-request@rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. I look forward to seeing you there, Respectfully, donna brand
If you live in Texas, you can now go to your local City Hall and get birth certificates for any town in Texas . They have a web connection to the state offices and print your certificates right there and hand them to you. Seems like it only starts with 1926 though. For death certificates, you have to go to the city hall of the town where the person died. I went to the Eastland Co. Courthouse several months ago to get my grandfather's death certificate, and it wasn't there. They told me to go to the City Hall in Cisco to get it, and sure enough it was there. Go to this web site and you can print out the form to order birth and death certificates from the state. www.tdh.state.tx.us/bvs/registra/bcdcapp.htm Deborah (Johnson) Maston ----- Original Message ----- From: Nancy Curtis Eurich <nceurich@earthlink.net> To: <TXEASTLA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2000 3:56 PM Subject: Re: resources available > I could use some help there too. Could the list mom or somebody else let us know what resources are available for Eastland County, TX? Do any of the libraries have census on microfilm, or printed lists in books? Are there genealogy books in the libraries? Do either of the colleges have genealogy info or books? Lots of people are looking for obituaries and want to know if newspapers are on microfilm. Rootsweb Lists that I belong to in other states and counties have web pages with a list of look-up people. We don't seem to have that. There must be somebody or several people that have books of genealogy info that could do look-ups. Other counties have lots of resources on their web page such as marriage lists, cemetery lists, and even the census. Our county is way behind everybody else. What can we do about it? I lived in Eastland Co. up until I got married, but now live just one county away. The last few months I have done quite a few look-ups for queries on this Eastland list. (Sorry to say that I have not been very successful in finding a lot of the people that I searched for.) But I do the look-ups when I go to the Fort Worth, TX Library. They have the 3 volume set of the cemetery listings of Eastland Co. There is also a birth and death index starting at 1903 on microfilm. Seems like I got a notice a few months back that the Eastland Co. Genealogical Society had disbanded. I guess they would be the ones responsible for doing look-ups. Deborah (Johnson) Maston
I could use some help there too. I need the name of a person that would be able to make copies of documents such as Death records, birth records, etc. Is there a person in Eastland Co., that would do this? Where would records like this be?

My name is Kathleen Burnett and I am your new List Mom. I want to take a moment and let you know who I am and a little about myself. I am a mother of four and grandmother of nine. I work outside of the home during the day. I am a list Mom to several other Mailing Lists and am very actively involved in my own family research. I am a hands on List Mom, meaning I keep track of what is going on with the mailing list. If you are ever in need of me during the day, while at work, you can reach me at kburnett@wardleygmac.com - or in the evenings and on Sunday I can be reached at kburnet@efortress.com As to how I am connected with the Eastland Co., TX -- A Great Uncle of mine, Kellett Surname, migrated from Randolph Co., AR to Eastland Co., TX, buried a child there in 1900 and them went back home to Randolph Co., AR. I am still looking for the grave of Lemon Kellett. My goal for your list is to keep it a safe place for you to research your Eastland Co., TX surnames. Safe meaning a place where you are not subject to postings other than those related to the county and those who have lived there or have traveled through. I look forward to getting to know each of you in the future. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
I would like to know about the Cisco storm which occurred in Eastland Co., Tx. 1893. Is there a list of victims of storm?
And Good Morning also from the Floridapanhandle, Earlier this a.m. Horatio Paul McAfee wrote: > Would anyone on this list be able to tell me if there any old newspaper > files that would contain obit data for ........................" Please let me know also about newspapers. I don't need the genealogy information as my family lived in Ranger for only a few years during the oil boom but I would like to know more about what happened there. I have the book, "Ranger, Texas", but am always looking for more to build a really interesting story about the time my Dad and others were there. Mary Ann Buswell
Good morning from Houston -- Would anyone on this list be able to tell me if there any old newspaper files that would contain obit data for Eastland Co. in the 1920's. And where they might be? I have hit a brick wall in trying to find genealogical data on one of my great grandmothers, Mary Thankful Ewell Whiteside, widow of R. M. Whiteside, Jr. who perished in the great storm that level Cisco in the 1890's. Any help will be appreciated and will return the favor if I can help from Houston. Horatio Paul McAfee

Hi, **This message is being sent to the TXEASTLA mailing list.** The email address that RootsWeb has for the TXEASTLA list admin ldbinger@hotmail.com is bouncing, so RootsWeb is looking to make contact with the list admin. Will the list admin please contact Andrew Billinghurst (billingh@rootsweb.com) so that we know that you are still maintaining this list. List members there is nothing for you to worry about and nothing for you to do, it is probably just an email problem for the person looking after the day-to-day management of this list. Thanks! Andrew Billinghurst, RootsWeb Staff billingh@rootsweb.com
Will someone please tell me when the railroad station that now houses the museum at Ranger, TX was built? Was there another railroad station prior to the one that is there now. Thank you for any information. Mary Ann

Hello: Searching for more information on this family. Richard Barnett, son of Joseph Barnett and Lucy Wade, was born 9 Oct 1773 in Spartanburg County, SC. He died in 1832 in Lawrence County, AL. He married Susannah about 1793 in Spartanburg County, SC. Susannah died sometime between 1814 (birth of son, Jorial) and 1820 (1820 Census). Her maiden name COULD have been White or Smith as Richard and Susannah sold and bought lands from the Whites and Smiths of Spartanburg Co., SC. It is also possible that Susannah's maiden name was Lewis. Their children were: 1-ELIZABETH (probable daughter) born 1802 in Spartanburg County, SC and died about 1880 in Lincoln County, TN. She married Josiah Stovall, son of David Stovall and Mary Wright. Their children were: Mary Ann, Thomas (married Mahulda P. Smith), Stephen Gilbert (married Sarah Ann Sanderson), Nancy Jane (md. William Henry Riley), Frances, Susan Hulda (md. John C. Maroney), Alfred David (md. Sarah Jane Maroney, 2nd to Mary Jane Riley), Martha (md. Silas Dollar), Sarah (md. Hiram Dollar), and Matthew. Josiah and Elizabeth lived in Lincoln Co., TN all their life. Descendants seem to have migrated to Ellis Co., TX. 2-SUSAN (probable daughter) born 1805 in Spartanburg County, SC and died before Sep 1857 in Itawamba County, MS. She married David Joseph Stovall, brother of Josiah. Their children were: Thomas Pinckney(?) (md. Matilda Gillis), Richard Lewis (md. Sarah Tankersly), Francis M. (md. Nancy Jane Lindsey), Elijah George (md. Sarah Ann, 2nd to Martha Alvis, 3rd to Emma P. McWilliams), John Calvin (md. Mary Martha Adeline Lindsey), Christopher Charles (md. Eveline), Martha E. (md. Joseph Tyre Mackey), Alfred B., Andrew Jackson (md. Mary Frances Woodward), William James (md. Mary Jane Walker) and Jorial (md Sarah Calista Reeves). David and Susan's family moved from Giles County, TN to Lawrence Co., AL then to Itawamba Co., MS. After Susan's death, David and his new wife, Mary Elizabeth Mackey Thigpen, moved to Kaufman County, TX. Many descendants remain in the Kaufman County area. 3-JOSEPH born 20 June 1807 in Spartanburg County, SC and died 20 Nov 1894 in Coleman County, TX. He married Susan Hampton on 1 Sep 1829 in Lawrence County, AL. Their children were: James (apparently died young), Rial (md. Mary Jane Thomas), Cynthia E. (never married), Richard Thomas (died in Civil War), George (died in Civil War), Harvey (died in Civil War), Rufus Calvin (never married), Mary Ann, and Almary Melvina. Joseph and Sarah moved from Lawrence County, AL to Itawamba Co., MS then to Kaufman Co., TX then to Coleman Co., TX where they are buried in Talpa Cemetery in Coleman, Coleman Co., TX. Their descendants lived in the counties of Kaufman, Coleman and Runnels. Descendants of their son, Rial, later moved to Arizona. 4-GEORGE born 2 Aug 1810 in Spartanburg County, SC and died 3 Dec 1888 in Kaufman Co., TX. He married Minerva Green on 11 Mar 1830 in Lawrence County, AL. Their children were: Caroline, Elizabeth Jane, James Monroe (md. Sharlotta Smith), Alfred J. (md. Emily Frances Morrow), Nemia (died young), William J. (died in Civil War), Nancy Jean (md. John Parker, 2nd to Joseph S. Hart), Martha A. (md. Samuel C. Hampton), Cornelia Frances (md. Joseph Cooper Spencer), Lucy A. (md. A. Bryant Hill), and Robert Henry (md. Elizabeth, 2nd to Susan). George and Minerva moved from Lawrence Co., AL to Itawamba Co., MS and later to Kaufman Co., TX. George and his family were one of the first families to settle in Kaufman Co., TX. 5-JORIAL born about 1814 in Giles County, TN and died after 1880 in Brazos County, TX. He married twice, first to a Martha about 1835. Their children were: Susan E. (md. H. J. Taylor), Mary D.B. (md. Dave Adams??), Richard Lewis (md. Susan Hill, 2nd to Mary Jane Black), James Alfred (md. Mary D. Taylor, 2nd to Vina), George Allison (md. Rebecca E.), Benjamin Augustin (md. Emily C.), and Martha Callie (md. Leonidas W. P. Eubank). Jorial's second wife was Rachel Hill whom he married on 23 Dec 1858 in Cherokee County, TX. Their children were John Douglas (md. Mary E. Rawes), Nancy Alice (md. Michael Weickersheimer, Jr.), Cinder (Cinderella?), Ward (md. Hettie) and Laura. Jorial moved from Lawrence Co., AL to Itawamba Co., MS then to Cherokee Co., TX. Sometime after his marriage to his second wife, Rachel, he moved to Brazos Co., TX. His descendants lived in the counties of Eastland, Coke, Wharton, Matagorda, Freestone, and Brazos. Richard and Susannah apparently had four other daughters and two other sons. Does anyone know who they may have been? We suspect that there was a son named Alfred since almost all of the Barnett siblings named a son Alfred. Thank you, Jason Gervase
