    3. Dear List Members, Many of you may already know about the "Historical Maps of the United States" site located at http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/histus.html But I just found it and it is wonderful. I have spent the last few hours going through some of the maps and it helped me so much to understand some of the strange migration patterns of my ancestors. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend. 1. [TXEASTLA] From List Mom Regarding Memorial Day Postings
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, Remember as you think about posting a message to the list regarding Memorial Day, that some of our members are not from the United States. We have members from England, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Ireland and Australia, just to name a few. Please keep this in mind as you send your messages regarding honoring those of our ancestors who fought in wars, served in the military and gave their lives for our beliefs and for the freedoms we hold dear. Our members from other countries also have ancestors who fought, and gave their lives for the beliefs and for the freedoms of their country. We in the genealogical community need to continue to remember that we are a world wide family which is formed from those of many nations, cultures, beliefs and history. This Country was built by those who migrated here from lands around the world. Their history is a part of us as our history is a part of them. I ask you to remember all those who have given their lives in military service world wide this weekend and please show the respect due to each of our members, no matter where they are from or what country they or their ancestors fought for. I appreciate each of you. Have a save weekend. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    3. It seems as if the latest virus problem has calmed down, but it would only take one or two of you opening an attachment with a virus to set it off again. It is not over, but it has calmed down. Just this morning I received another on - and did as I suggest you do DELETED IT. Please remember: DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT unless you know 100% what it is and who is from and have run a virus scan on it. I don't care how inviting the subject line is, "homepage", "Read this", "The Docs you ask for", etc. . Also please remember that this virus is not being spread via Rootsweb, but is being spread via attachments that are being sent out by rootsweb members. If you want additional information on what a virus is go to http://ca.com/virusinfo/faq.htm it is an informative site. If you don't have a good Virus Scan, I use Norton Anti virus, you need to get one that you trust and fast. If you are not sure what kind to get, you might want to join the virus discussion list to get additional information on the different programs. VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Again, I appreciate your support as we have gone through the last month or so fighting this problem. I also appreciated your willingness to do all that is necessary to help me fight the problem. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [TXEASTLA] Help - CHESHIRE, SIKES, MASSEY
    2. Hi all - HELP requested, I am searching for information on my great-grandparents: William Campbell CHESHIRE (b. Nov 18, 1848 in England, d. Oct 16, 1908 in Cisco, Texas)...and Sarah Francis SIKES (b. Apr 14, 1865 in Ozark, Missouri, d. Jul 15, 1923 in Cisco, Texas). I requested their death certificates from the state but they couldn't find any record of a death registration. I have a picture of their headstone, but I'm not sure what cemetary it is from. The story is that William Campbell CHESHIRE was killed by a bull walking through a pasture in Cisco...can anyone tell me the best newspaper to look in for an obituary or notice regarding this accident? Any assistance or advice about where to turn next would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! Lila Tonche toncheli@aol.com

    1. [TXEASTLA] From List Mom - Please Read - Regarding Viruses
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members - PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS on the personal e-mail you are receiving without being 100% plus sure who it is from and that it is not a virus and the only way you can be this sure is run a Virus Scan. The new one now is "Homepage" If you open the Homepage attachment, it sends a copy of itself to everyone in your address book. Homepage then randomly chooses an adult Web page to display on the system's default Internet browser." To learn more aobut this one go to http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2708116,00.html Homepage is just one of many. If you would like to know more about all of this you can join the Virus Discussion Mailing list by sending the word Subscribe to VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM We are going to be OK. These viruses cannot be sent through Rootweb so it is up to each of us to protect our fellow members. When I get a message from one of you and see that you have the virus, your e-mail address is unsubscribed from the mailing list until you get your computer system clean and then you are welcomed back with open arms. Just remember - do not open ANY attachements unless you are sure it is not a virus. If you are not sure - delete it. Those of us who are deeply nvolved in our genealogical research are so fearful that we are going to delete that one clue, which we have been waiting for, that many of us are opening these attachements - taking the chance - and because of this we are being hit hard by the virus. I appreciate your help with this. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [TXEASTLA] G.W. Foster and Sarah A. Foster
    2. Richard Foster
    3. Just wondering if anyone on this list has any information on my gggrandfather, G.W. (George W.) Foster and his wife, Sarah A. (Spirers) Foster. One of their sons, Virgil Franklin Foster (my GGrandfather) was sheriff of Eastland County during the late 1920s and 1930s. Their other children included Josephine (married George W. Adams), Augustus (Gus) Foster (married Lula Lea Barnes), Milton, and Nancy. All but Virgil are buried at Elm Cemetery in Okra, Virgil and his wife, Mary Josephine Maxwell, are buried in Rising Star. I believe that G.W. was born in Alabama around 1830 and Sarah was born in Mississippi in 1836. Gus Foster and his family lived on the road behind the Baptist Church in Rising Star. Virgil died in 1957 and Josie died in 1942. Richard Foster Austin, TX

    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members: If you are unsubscribed from the list, and it is not what you wanted, just re-subscribe yourself. If for some reason your address bounced several times, at no fault of your own, the system removes your address from the list. So if you see it happening to you all you have to do is re-subscribe yourself or send me a message and I will take care of it for you. Please be careful and DO NOT OPEN ANY MAIL WITH AN ATTACHMENT unless you are 100% sure you know what it is and even then run a virus scan. You cannot get a virus through the Rootsweb mailing list, but you can receive it from members of the list who's computer system has a virus. As soon as I know one of our members has a virus I unsubscribe them until they can clean their system. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns as to his list or suggestions for the benefit of all the members. Contact me personally please KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net For your enjoyment, this link was sent to me to share with you. It is another fun map - and shows when areas of the country were included in a US Census. http://www.segenealogy.com/sgo03.htm Thank you for your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. Re: [TXEASTLA] census look up please
    2. Jessie Joyner
    3. Marianne, The census is very light and hard to read. Here's my best guess: Page 323A, Lines 2-7 Ware, Milton, white, male, 54, married, farmer, born Ky, father born Ky, mother born Va Adeline, white, female, 51, wife, born La, father born Tn, mother born Tx Richard M., white, male, 23, son, farmer, born Ks, Ky, La Lydia A., white, female, 17, daughter, born Tx, Ky, La James M., white, male, 13, son, born Tx, Ky, La Rachael P., white, female, 11, daughter, born Tx, Ky, La Can't promise I got all the spelling correct and the Virginia for Milton's mother was VERY light and faded. The Kentucky was pretty plain. Hope this helps, Jessie

    2. Sherman R. Ervin
    3. Hello everyone, we are joining all of you folks in this search for our ancestors. My husband knew he had family from Erath County and Eastland Co. We finally after 2 years found and called a nephew of my husbands grandfather John Benjamin Ervin. He was called grandpa Ben. He left Texas 1920s to Calif. A newly found cousin told us g grandpa MILES ERVIN was born 1839, she thinks from Mo. , He enlisted in the army at Tarrant Co. Tx. 1862, married ANNIE GRISSOM who was born 1835. They married about 1877 in Fortworth, Tarrant Co. Texas. They had 8 boys. One was my husbands grandfather Ben born 1879 who married Minnie Reese. Some names of Bens brothers we are now aware of are Chester Floyd Sr., Sidney, Jess born in late 1800s. I have a list of Bens children and Chesters children. I was told MILES ERVIN father of the above sons is buried in the Bunyon Cemetary. He died 1899 and his wife Annie Grissom died 1927. We are so delighted to have learned this much so far over the weekend from a telephone call to a 2nd cousin newly discovered in Gorman Texas. This cousin does not know much more and would also appreciate any added information to what I have told you. Sincerely, Gloria

    2. Karen Williamson
    3. Pam, I went back to re-read your message (dated 3-25-01) thinking I misunderstood what you were wanting. Are you needing information in two areas??....Cloud-Matthews marriage and a census lookup on Cloud? If so, I didn't respond on the marriage since it is a trip to the courthouse and I wasn't heading there anytime soon. I am going to the library this week and could try a census lookup on Cloud IF it is listed in the directory. It is a needle in a haystack without being listed in the directory.
