    1. [TXEASTLA] From List Mom - Please Read: Regarding Again Closing the Lists.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members: We are mourning and will be mourning for a long while, the tragedy which happened to us this week. I, as you, hurt and want to cry out and scream to the world "that something has to be done", "we hurt", "why". Those who lost loved ones will continue to need the support of their fellow man while they either wait for word of of their missing or are burying their dead. I expect no less of each one of us and the days pass. The time has come though, for us to begin the process of trying to live our lives in some kind of normalcy, by trying to slowly bring our lists back to the topic for which they are designed. Therefore as I opened the lists for you to express your grief, I now, most respectfully, and with sorrow, ask that you help me bring them back to the topic of the list. Today is the last day for posting of your feelings and thoughts to the list regarding the tragedy. If you have not had the chance or have felt strong enough to share you feelings with us you can still post them at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=usa-tragedy.mourning I want to thank each of you for the manner in which you held our flag high this past week, for the manner in which you shared your sorrow, for the manner in which you shared your grief without attacking one another or any culture. I especially want to thank those members who hurt as badly as those who posted regarding what has happened in their world, but could not deal with seeing this horror on their genealogy list. They never said a negative word, but let those who needed this time and this way to express their sorrow have it. These members were true friends to each of us. I ask now that each of you help me to again close the lists to any topic other than the topic of the list as of tomorrow morning, Sunday, September 16th, 2001. I appreciate each of you and thank you for the support I am given by each of you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

You can connect use http://216.10.103.21/ to connect to ancestry.com Thank you for your patience during this crisis." 1. [TXEASTLA] Tax Records
    2. Hello List Is there anyone on this list who could possibly do a tax record lookup? I need to try to determine what year Joseph L. "Logan" Johnson and his wife Jessie Veisz (Bedford) Johnson left Eastland Co TX for the Territory of New Mexico. They married in Eastland County in 1882. Deed records place them in Eastland in 1887. Now the hard part is, I know of at least one other J. L. Johnson in Eastland County at that time. It was Jessie's half nephew Jonas. He used same initials that Logan did on records so could someone tell me what years J. L. Johnson was on the tax list and what years there were two J. L. Johnsons? This would be a tremendous favor! Thanks in advance Marcia

    1. [TXEASTLA] From List Mom - Informative site - and other items.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, I was sent this site by a fellow researcher "Index to the Guion Miller Roll" http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/guionmiller/index.htm I found it very interesting - and thought I would pass it on to you. Now for the other items. This message is being sent out to all of my list, some which only have 3 members and some with almost 1000. If you are one of my smaller lists and feel that you only hear from me, why don't you take this opportunity to send a query to the list. If you need help from me, please put something in the subject line to alert me that the message is a request for help. When I am at work during the day I use http://www.mail2web.com from my office computer to keep an eye on my lists. I can only read the subject line from there and unless I open each and every message which most times are in the hundreds by 10 am in the morning. This is two time consuming while at work. So, to repeat, if you need my help, please place something in the subject line so that I will know your request needs attention quickly. One more item, It is time or about time when most children are heading back to school and many Moms and or Dads who are staying home now have additional time to work on their genealogy. If we begin to get messages across the lists that do not conform to the guidelines we have for our list, please just let them pass. Remember I am behind the scenes taking care of these problems, helping members subscribe and unsubscribe and reminding members of the guidelines of the list. The only time I send out corrections to the entire list is when the entire list is involved or when one of our members is being attached on the list - I then come to the defense in the same place the attack took place -- On the list. Enjoy the site - Thank you for your continued support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. Re: [TXEASTLA] Cemetary location
    2. Jessie Joyner
    3. Hi Marcia, The Cemetery is easy to find. Take the Eastland exit at McDonald's, Wal-Mart, etc. It's easy to see, sorry I can't remember the exit #. Turn right and go towards town. Please excuse the road construction! You will pass Wal-Mart, Pizza Inn, Shady Oaks Shopping Center (where I work at Playoff Sports), and Bryans Automotive & Computers. Just past Bryans will be a small bridge and just over the bridge will be a left turn with a sign that reads Cemetery. Turn left and the cemetery will be on the left. Be sure to look at the directory at the front of the cemetery and sign the genealogy book on the left of it. Hope you find all that you're looking for. I know that Dean Vernon, the man in charge of the cemetery will be at his office across from the cemetery in the morning, I'm not sure about afternoon. I talked to him today and he said something about taking off. Let me know if I can help you. 1. [TXEASTLA] FROM LIST MOM 2nd Quarterly Report for 2001
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, Here it is the end June and time for the Second Quarterly Report for 2001. Can you believe how fast the time has passed? This one almost passed me by. The TXEASTLA Mailing List has 64 members, 53 on the Regular list and there are 11 members on the Digest List. As most of you know by now, the GenConnect Boards have changed. Rootsweb.com and Ancestry.com are continuing their merger and now have merged the GenConnect Boards. I am not sure of my feeling regarding this yet, but will watch it and let you know. I am not one to jump to conclusions quickly. I also take care of many GenConnect Boards and did loose all of them in which I did not take care of the Query board due all the boards, bios, wills, pensions, etc. being combined within the Query board. If you used one of these boards, now you know why I suddenly disappeared. I know many of you have concerns regarding copyright laws and the information you post to the boards and the mailing lists. The following was posted by Rootsweb Management. "When you post messages to mailing lists, message boards, and other facilities at RootsWeb, those posts remain your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it." If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you” and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net

    1. [TXEASTLA] SSAN Solution
    2. K . B. Cook
    3. Fellow listers, Here’s an appeal to all of you to pull out the copies of the SSAN application forms you already have filed away in your "stuff" and post them at Rootsweb. I just did it for the ones I have and it’s really easy. :O) 1. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/ 2. Scroll down the home page to Social Security Death Index and click on it. 3. Enter the name of the person who is on the form you have into the search engine. 4. When the right entry comes up, go over to the far right and click on "Add Post-Em" link. 5. The "Fill in the blank" form will come up and you can type in the information just like it’s printed on the form you have in your hands! 6. Include all the information in the order that it is entered on the form, so that others have the advantage of all that information. NOTE: You don’t have to type in the SS Number for the person as the Rootsweb program includes it. Since the cost of these forms will be increasing substantially next week, it would be good if EVERYONE put out the information they already have. Then whoever else is searching for that same person won’t be required to pay the new price for the same form you have in your files. And vice-versa! If we all "plant seed," we’ll all get the crop! And thank Goodness for Rootsweb providing this service to all of us for FREE! Be well & God bless, Kate Beaugrand Cook Minnesota kbcook@cfaith.com or k.b.cook@worldnet.att.net

    1. [TXEASTLA] FYI
    2. K . B. Cook
    3. I just thought I would spread the word that the fees for getting a copy of a Social Security Application are going up drastically on 1 July 2001. If you apply before then you will be charged the old amount which is now $7 if you know the number, and $16.50 if you do not. The new fees are posted at: http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm It appears that the increases are more than substantial, they are gigantic. This means that the time for procrastination is over. The address you need to send them to is: Social Security Administration Office of Central Records Operation Attention: Freedom of Information Workgroup PO Box 17772 300 N. 2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, if messages are being posted to the list by a member that does not deal with the subject of the list, PLEASE let it pass. I am taking care of it behind the scene. You do not need to correct the member who posted the incorrect message nor do you need to send to the entire list your unhappiness. I will take care of it for you, quietly and personally with the member who posted the message. Also, I am getting a lot of personal messages asking me to help you unsubscribe as you leave on vacations, etc. I will always be glad to help you unsubscribe if you have a problem or even if you have forgotten how, but just as a reminder if you go to Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and type in your e-mail address and ask for a list of all Rootsweb lists you belong to, you will, within a few moments receive it via e-mail. You can unsubscribe from any or all of the rootsweb lists you are on from it. I thank you for your continued support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
