    2. Julie I'll jump in here on your conversation to the List Mom. She is miraculously mom to me on a few lists and I love the way she manages them. I have HART and JOHNSON kin in Eastland Co. Any of those in your family? This is a quieter list than some I lurk on. Each list just depends on the number of us here and how much we talk. . .so when it gets too quiet for you, ask us a question. 3. Hi Kathleen, I am one of the new list members. I haven't got any mail yet as far as emails from the list. Do they come in slowly. I didn't join the digest mode because they come as attachment. Is it just a coincidence that you are a list mom for both Ozark Co MO and Eastland Co TX or did you also have kin from both counties? 3. Dear List Members, It is that time of year again when we suddenly will have an influx of new online genealogy enthusiasts with their holiday gift computers that are usually newer and faster than what many of the rest of us have. For a great many of them, it will be their first time online. Some of them will make mistakes and some may (will) unintentionally do things and write things that may be irritating to us and against what we have set up as our list rules. Please take this into consideration in advance and be helpful to them. If things get out of hand, know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problems. Just remember, one of these new members might hold the clue you have been searching for. Let us not discourage them before they have a chance to learn how this works. I would like also to take this time to wish each of you and yours a wonderful and safe Holiday Season. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

I am researching the Durham family from Eastland Co TX. This Durham family migrated from Hall Co GA to Ozark and Douglas Co MO and then over towards St Francois Co MO but then in 1869, my gg grandfather, one of the 11 children of Howell J. Durham and Lucinda Woodliff, migrated to Eastland Co TX after their marriage in 1869. Names associated with this family are: Francis Marion Lance of Eastland Co TX-daughter Brittania J. or Anna Lance who first married Ellison Monroe McGough and then Andrew Jackson McDaniel. F.M. Lance's nephew, Joseph F. Murray was also in Eastland and Wise Co TX. There was also a Francis Marion Bourland with wife E.E. Bourland who I think might be the brother of our gg grandmother, Mary Catherine Bourland Durham (Solon's wife). He isn't on the family history of Samuel U. Bourland for St Francois Co MO but he fits right in their family with his birthdate and he was in Eastland Co TX with Mary and family and he is a witness on the conf pens appl for Francis Marion Lance who married one of our Durham siblings. Other names associated with us in Texas were: LANGFORD, LEWIS, FAULTER (Stonewell OK-1900), McKnight (Herd OK 1897), Atwood (Childress Co TX), RILEY, BARTHOLOMEW, BENTON (Childress or Hardeman Co TX), Here is what I have for our Durhams in a time line. Any questions and I can send the whole file which is quite a bit. PS....Solon was at one time (from what I read in a newspaper article written by his daughter) the only doctor in Eastland Co TX and Albany Texas. He became a doctor in 1907. He was a doctor of Allopathy. Does anyone know what that is? Julie Hamilton gingerbredgirl@hotmail.com PPS...If anyone can do a lookup for me for marriage, I need to find out when Francis Emmitt Durham married Gracie Elizabeth Burnett. She was from OK and they were in OK for the birth of their first child with other children of Solon and Mary so Francis and Gracie might have married in OK and not TX but I wanted to check. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DURHAM TIME LINE 1775- aprox, Anderson Durham was born 1797- Anderson Durham married Rebekah Jarrett, daughter of Howell Jarrett and Jane Coats 1798- William Jarrett Durham was born Wilkes Co GA 1800- Howell J. Please do not post the names of those you feel you have received infected postings from or their e-mail address. If you received an infected posting from a member of any of the lists I take care of, most likely I did too and I am taking care of it behind the scenes. I thank you for your help with this and appreciate your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [TXEASTLA] From List Mom Regarding BADTRANS Worm - Computer Virus
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members We are experiencing another outbreak of the BADTRANS worm, computer virus. I've received over 25 messages with it myself this weekend. The subject line will be varied but the infected attachments have a double extension, for example .doc.pif or .doc.scr You can go to http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/ or http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ to obtain more information. Please keep your anti virus software updated and DO NOT download unexpected attachments no matter who they are from or how tantalizing the subject line may be. "The Docs I Promised" just may be the virus. I apologize for breaking my own rule regarding Virus Warnings, but felt in this case it was important that you were aware. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    3. I would like to remind all of you that even transcription records 'may' be incomplete or lacking. Consulting the current cemetery books at the Eastland Centennial Library, you will not find my father listed in the Colony Cemetery. Neither will you find his obit in the records. My understanding is that the obits were compiled from someone using the Cisco paper and a death in Ranger was not printed in the Cisco paper, therefore not available. His name is not listed in the cemetery listing, either. Evidently, his small funeral home marker was not visible to those who surveyed the cemetery and he was missed. I know he needs a 'real' marker, but until my mother decides to have one erected, the kids just have to abide by her wishes. My reason for telling you all this is that sometimes the obit and the grave go 'unnoticed' for differing reasons. Now, for the Wash name...do you have any idea where in Eastland Co. the family resided? That may help pinpoint the cemetery and maybe someone could do a walkthrough. I would be interested in helping in you have more info to go on. 3. I consulted my Eastland County cemetery books, which were compiled from surveys conducted in the mid 1970s. There are no listings for the last name of Wash. Do you know for certain that they lived in Eastland County? Were they in Eastland County on the 1920 census? If so, where? Do you have any dates, or names of children? I'll try to help if you can provide a little more info. You said: "I hyperventilate at the site of an old cemetery" You too??! Good luck in your research! 1. [TXEASTLA] From List Mom - 3rd Quarterly Report 2001
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, Here it is the end September and time for the Third Quarterly Report for 2001. This past month has been a difficult time for all of us, but we made it through it and each of us are trying to get back to normal, or as normal as we can again. Part of that getting back to normal is our quarterly reports. Again, for your information, the TXEASTLA Mailing List has 71 members, 55 on the Regular list and there are 16 members on the Digest List. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Remember to change the Subject line when you change the topic of the posting. It is confusing to me and the member when your subject line has nothing to do with your posting. Most likely it will get deleted and you will not get the response you are looking for. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you” and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". Mary then sends out 60 more "Thank You" messages. This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net If one of these items come across the list, just delete it, do not respond to it. I am taking care of the problem, quietly behind the scenes. I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is.
