I sure wish we could still get copies of the History of Eastland County.Any thoughts of a reprint? Dear List Members, It is time again for one of my information messages. First of all I want to thank each of you who go out of your way to follow the list rules. I belong to many lists in my research and truly feel you are the best list members out there. If you are enjoying this list and would like to know what other genealogical lists Rootsweb has for you, go to John Fuller's site located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html It is the best source for Genealogical mailing lists that I know of. If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list or any Rootsweb List you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in the name of the list and from there you can search by date. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ To unsubscribe from any Rootsweb list send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to XXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Naturally exchange the XXXX with the name of the list and the L with a D if you are on the Digest List. I have very few rules on the lists I take care of; the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, also Roll Calls will be called by me, with a beginning date and an ending date. The posting of virus warnings, chain letters, political announcements, current events and test messages are NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please remember that I am here, working behind the scenes. When an offending message is posted, just DELETE it. Know that I am most likely taking care of the problem personally with the person who posted the message. When you send your unhappiness to the list you just continue on the problem both for the members and for myself. If you are concerned that I have missed the message, you can send me a message at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Would you like to see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. I have shared it before but I am sure we have many new members since then. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif This is your list. I am only here to take care of it for you and to make sure it runs smoothly. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them to me. Apologies to all. I am doing this for my 83 year old mother .This is my FINAL attempt for looking for Robert aka Tom ADKINS/ATKINS for her. After this, I am going to quit. I am too old for this. Therefore, in my last ditch effort, I am going to post this in the TX counties where he could have been in TX. If you receive this on other boards in TX that you belong to, please delete it. I know it can be a burden. This man did not exist but I have a hard time explaining that to mother. Conflicts in our knowledge of Robert aka Tom ADKINS: 1] He was a millwright and he was always named Tom and he got his arm cut off in a saw and got blood poisining and died. He supposedly died before 1890 in TX. 2] All the other ancestors say he and his wife both died in the cholera epidemic of 188? whenever it was in TX and that they are burried in an unmarked grave. 3] Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" ADKINS (Robert aka Tom's daughter) claimed to be a first cousin to former Speaker of the House of Representatives during the Eisenhour Administration, Samuel "Sam" TALIAFERRO RAYBURN b January 6, 1882 Roane County, Tennessee. Sam lived most of his life in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas. Mollie's death certificate lists her father as Tom ADKINS and so do the Funeral Home Records. 4] Robert's grandaughter who died last year gave me an old newspaper article on Samuel "Sam" James ERVIN/ERWIN Jr a former Representative from North Carolina born in Morganton, Burke County, North Carolina September 27, 1896. He was elected to the Seventy-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his brother, Joseph Wilson ERVIN/ERWIN and served from January 22, 1946 to January 3, 1947. She says we are also related to him. I can NOT find either of these connections yet. Thinking it might be with a WALLER though. 5] All the information on Robert aka Tom ADKINS says his parents were both from LA. All the census information on his children (ALL of them) says Robert Adkins was born in TX. 6] Robert aka Tom ADKINS had one of his sons, James Samuel spell his name ATKINS in Clay Co, TX Court Documents. Is the book you refer to - Eastland County History Book, Gateway to the West - available for purchase? Gene Day was supposed to be some relation of mine but I don't know what the connection really was. My dad was John H. Bransford (born in Mangum - died near Cisco) and my grandparents (Jim and Betty Bransford) were long time farmers and ranchers near Mangum. If the book is available, I'd like to buy a copy. Accessing it through a library would be a bit difficult since I am located in California! Thanks for your help!
