Daugherty DAUGHERTY Philip E., 96, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000. Phil was born March 12, 1904 to Charles L. & Felicia Alberta (Mitchell) Daugherty in the family home at the N.E. corner of 6th & Broadway in Oklahoma City. At statehood, Phil's father was elected Labor Commissioner and the family moved to Guthrie where he attended Capitol Hill Elementary School. Later the family returned to Oklahoma City and he attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Central High School in 1921. Phil attended OklahomaCityUniversity and was a 1928 graduate from Cumberland University with a LLB degree. In 1935 he married Katherine Twombly, who preceded him in death in 1999. During WWII he served in the Army Aircorps from 1942 to 1946 as a Major. From 1923 through 1927 hisprofessional career in the automobile industry included ownership of Phil's Franklin Automobile Service, sales manager of Bower's Overland Automobile Co., Secretary-Treasurer and Manager/Assistant in charge of Parts Department of Oklah! omaState Panhandle & Texas for Willis Knight & Overland Auto Agency, and Executive Vice-President and later as President of American Electric Ignition Co. From 1928-30 he was a partner in the law firm of Webb & Daugherty; from 1931-42 served as a prosecuting attorney in Oklahoma County Attorney's office; after WWII he became a partner in the law firm of Ames, Ames & Daugherty; from 1946 through 1992 he was either a partner or of council with many well known legal firms in his law practice. In1958-68 he served as a Master in the U.S. District Court, Western District of Oklahoma. During the 1960's & 70's his activities included Oklahoma City University School of Law Faculty. From 1971 to 1992 he served as Trustee of the Dexter G. Johnson Educational andBenevolent Trust. His membership in civic and other organizations include American College of Trial Lawyers, Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Phi Delta! PhiLegalFraternity, Oklahoma City Kiwanis Club, QB Club, OX5 Club of America, Beacon Club, Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club, Oklahoma State Historical Society, Sooner Dinner Club, and Oklahoma Zoological Society. He was a longtime member of Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. Phil is survived by his brother, Judge Fred A. Daugherty. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home until 2:00 P.M. Thursday. PRIVATE SERVICES will be held at Rose Hill Mausoleum on Thursday, May 11, 2000.
