Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hkB.2ACI/1558.1 Message Board Post: Bill, The name REST COTTAGE caught my eye. My late Step-Grandmother, Stella Wells, was a RN at the Rest Cottage until it closed in 1971. There is a good account of the Rest Cottage on the following link. The link also has a picture of the Rest Cottage. The web site reads, "Soon after 1900 the buildings formally known as Franklin College were purchased by a local business man named Rogers. He was approached (by a) couple named Roberts, that was interested in the welfare of children and expectant mothers. In 1904 an orphanage was opened, and in 1907 a home was established for unwed mothers. This place was called Rest Cottage. Rest Cottage was operated under a board of Rest Cottage directors, but managed by the Nazarene Church workers. In the following years the orphanage was transferred to another town, but Rest Cottage operated until 1971. When it was closed the records were sent to The Department of Human Resources in Austin Texas." It was not owned by the Church of the Nazarene. Many of the people who worked there were Nazarene and I've been told the Roberts family who owned it were also Nazarene. Pilot Point, TX was considered the "home town" of my Wells Family. http://www.pilotpointonline.com/our_proud_history.htm I hope this helps, Nancy Wells McDonald

I would like to know if this was a function of a church denomination or some government agency for unwed mothers.

I couldn't believe it -- that's higher than my own state of California, where everything is higher. California now has an "Informational copy" of a death certificate. Today I'm going to call the county clerk of Denton and see if they have a non-certifiied or informational copy, which I should have stated in my 2nd request letter. CD

Camey Spur (Camey) was on State Highway 121 sixteen miles southeast of Denton in southeastern Denton County. It was established about 1852 and named for Capt. William McKamy. For a time it served as a spur on the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway. A post office operated in Camey Spur from 1913 through 1925. In 1914 the community had a cotton gin, two general stores, and a population of thirty. It had two businesses and a population of forty-seven during the 1930s and 1940s, after which no population statistics were available. found in The Handbook of Texas Online at the link below: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/CC/htc1.html

You might also contact the County Commissioner whose job it is to oversee this particular precinct in Denton County. I have had good luck in other counties by contacting local funeral homes; they will often have contact lists for people who can be contacted regarding cemeteries in their county. Good Luck! Please, please respond this time. I would like to find out any info on this little cemetery. It is deplorable condition and I would like to find out who to get in touch with about it. I know it's on private property, so what can be done to try to gain access to it? I have pictures of it to send to someone so that they can see the condition it is in. I know there is a civil war soldier buried there, so it should have some sort of recognition.

    3. i am new to this site and was wondering if you ever had a roll call where all members submit a list of family names for which they are researching. most of my research has been in southwest tenn and north miss. after the civil war many families left the area. i know that some came to texas. my ancestrial lines are: clark, wilson, rodgers/rogers, umbarger, johnson, green, poff, brock, fowler, ware, sledge and simpson.

    3. i am looking for info on james polk clark that came to texas. i know that his brother, lemuel newton clark, moved to denton county in 1880 and lived around pilot point. i feel that their sister, martha, that married ephraim adkins/atkins likely moved here also. i feel that their nephews, john and james johnson, came here with them. john johnson was living with lemuel newton clark in hardeman county, tenn in the 1870 census. the 2 brothers, joseph and robert johnson, went to woodruff coumty, ark. i would greatly appreciate any info on any of these families.
