    1. Shores DNA Project Participant Search
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hkB.2ACI/1577 Message Board Post: Shores DNA Project Participant Search In January of 2006 we initiated a “Shores” surname project through Family Tree DNA. This project is designed to provide irrefutable evidence of known and unknown family relatives. Through the technology of DNA testing, more specifically, y-line or males only testing, we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, purported connections to family, or as yet completely unknown connections. This test has the ability to reach back to the dawn of civilization through the miracle of DNA. The fingerprint of a thousand generations will be displayed in one y-line chromosome test. Indications from the first participants test results show that at least one branch of Shores originated and migrated within the northern European, British Isles--Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, and Eastern Canada--all Viking populations, to North America. We are searching for male Shores individuals from any branch family to participate in a Y Chromosome DNA test. If you are a male Shores family member, or know of a cousin, uncle, father, grandfather that has a Shores surname, we ask that you please consider participating in this surname project. The following is just a sample of some of the branches from which we are seeking DNA participants: Reuben Shores: born 1790 TN, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Hiram Shores: born 1802 KY, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We have a DNA representative for this branch but need another. William Shores: born 1800 NC, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Levi Shores: b. 1805 NC, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Calvin Shores: born 1815 AL, moved to Craighead County, AR ca 1830, from Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Jonathan Shores: born to as yet unknown parents in 1794 in KY. Lived in Wilson County, TN. No confirmed connection to any other Shores branch at this time. We have a DNA representative for this line but are looking for another. Phillip Shores: sibling to Jonathan, born to as yet unknown parents in 1793 in KY, lived in Wilson Cty, TN and moved to Macaupin Cty, IL in 1850’s. No confirmed connection to any other Shores branch at this time. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Those families named above and their respective individual branches, represent merely the beginning of the project. We welcome any participant from any Shores branch. We are sure you will want more information than this brief single document of introduction, so please reference our website: www.familytreedna.com/public/shores. The web site will provide a brief insight to what we are doing and why we are trying to do it. Please click on “FAQ about DNA testing…” on the lower left hand side of the site to get to some of the questions I am sure you have. On the upper left hand side of the web site you will see a tab to “Join this Group”. If you click on this tab you will go to the form to submit to a DNA y-line test. By joining through this form and our surname project, you can receive a discount on the cost of the test—as opposed to simply taking the test independently. While the 12 marker test gets you in the game, we would strongly suggest that you submit to the 37 marker y-line test. This test can prove a common ancestor within the last 150-200 years without any doubt. In this way, we and our test matches on both sides of the Atlantic can work both backwards and forwards to connect to new ancestors and descendants that are matched with our res! ults--hopefully locating the missing links to our Northern European origins. We will be attempting to contact as many Shores surname candidates as we can to participate in this surname project. Not only do I hope you will join us in the project, we sincerely hope that you will contact all those in your Shores database to join in the project as well, as the more tests we can refer to in our research, the better chance we have to make the confirmed connection. When we make that confirmed connection to our Northern European origins, we want you to be a part of it. Regards, Carl Shores Group Administrator Shores Surname Project Chandler, AZ carlshore@cox.net

    3. Are your THARPs related to any of these: 1-Luther H. THARP/THORPE (1895-) +Unk wife ______ (THARP/THORPE) (abt 1888-) . 2-Archie Henderson THARP/THORPE (31 Mar 1918-24 May 1981) . +Cornelia Alpha PERKINS (18 May 1917-29 Dec 1992) +Mary Catherine ("Mollie") LANE (6 Jun 1876-) I am searching the LANE line. Mollie is my great-aunt, but I haven't been able to find out much about her or her husbands and children. My aunt told me once that Mollie had a lot of children, possibly 10 or more. She was first married to Harry SMITH in 1893, probably in Frisco, Collin Co, TX. According to my aunt, she had a daughter named Florence SMITH, born probably before 1816. Her son Lane SMITH, born 1918, is listed with her and Mollie's 2nd hus. Luther THARP on the 1930 census in Denton Co, TX. Do you have a source for the listings in the Wolf-Foster Cemetery? I'd like to find out if Luther or Archie are listed there. Thanks.
