They do offer copies for $1.00 copying fee. I'd also put in a sase as a courtesy. You can get the Denton County Clerk's phone number at www.vitalrec.com; click state of Texas, then go to the county of your choice. Also go to David Grey's website, it's called the www.adoptionmining.com website. You have to register, but that's not a big deal. Then you get yourself a passwrord, and you will be able to see the deaths of Texas from 1903 to about 1970-something. It's great. you will be able to find folks and get the death certificate number. Remember this is the State of Texas Death Index, not for the counties, soe the death cert. numbers are for the former. Good luck, Cyrille

As written by enumerator in Apr of 1930. They lived on Cemetery Hill Road. 1930; Census Place: Precinct 6, Denton, Texas; Roll: 2323; Page: 5A; Enumeration District: 23; Image: 1149.0. It appears Otis and Florence married appx 1924 but unknown if it was a fact that his parents were from TN. The 1920 record has all persons listed that were counted and I did not find Otis/Odis Lee Lewis. The person responsible as informant on his death certificate did not know who his parents were. I checked the Tennessee Lewis' families in the 1910, they were in Pct 6, record and did not find him in a household. Otis filed for a SS number. The form filled out to get the SS number is on file in the SS Office in Baltimore MD. If you go the SS Death index on Rootsweb you can print the SS-5 Letter, fill it out and send it to the address provided it should have the parents names on it. Otis would have completed this form himself, or should have, in his hand writing. The form costs $27.00 as I have obtained several and found what I needed. I know that someone else informed you that Denton county began recording births in 1900 and the State of Texas made it a requirement in 1903 but most folks just did not take the time to go to the courthouse back then to do this.
