Shelia 12-10-1882 - 5-4-1967 along with her son, Walter, Jr.. 10-19-1911-2-12-1921 are interred in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pilot Point. Her sisters, Cora McFarland 1876-1962, Ann Lois McCrary 4-5-1891 - 5-29-1977 are also interred in the I.O.O.F. and Yarborough Cemeteries, respectively. Connie Prock, also a sister, is not listed in the cemetery records. I think that she is interred in Dallas, Texas. As you know the family name of McFarland is associated with Pilot Point. Cora was a spinster and retired school teacher. You should contact the Emily Fowerl library in Denton, Texas and ask then to assist you in obtaining an obituary for Shelia. Hope this info is of some benefit to you. Respectfully Edd Painter

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hkB.2ACI/1631 Message Board Post: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has scheduled a series of Public Hearings regarding the location of the Trans Texas Corridor TTC-35 (a 1/4 mile wide toll road, railway, pipeline, utility corridor). The TTC will roughly follow the current I-35 and could be located in this county. Currently a 10 mile wide path and an alternate path are being studied to determine final placement of the corridor. There will be a public hearing at the Univ. of North Texas Gateway Crr Ballroom, 801 N. Texas Blvd. on July 11, 2006. The hearing will begin with an open house at 5 p.m. so that residents can review maps of the preferred corridor alternative and ask questions of highway department staffers. The presentation and oral comments begin at 6:30 p.m. TxDOT is asking for input from citizens about the location of historical sites and family cemeteries among other information. Those of you doing research in this county know far more about the local and family historical sites than anyone else. You have an important chance to share your expertise with TxDOT by attending one of their meetings or completing a comment form. 1. Aunty Polly McCombs attains 100 years
    2. Linda Jenkins
    3. Aunt Polly McCombs Attains 100 Years From: The Lewisville Enterprise Luzon, Texas, November 23, 1927. On October 23, just one month ago, quite a gathering of the relatives and friends of Aunt Polly McCombs met with her at her home in Fisher County in the celebration of her one-hundredth birthday. There were in attendance some three to four hundred people, friends and relatives from various parts of the state; and from New Mexico, Arizona and California. A dinner was provided by her six sons, who were all present, namely; W.L., J.W., C.W. and G. L. of Rotan, S.A. of Luzon, and J.J. of Las Cruces, NM. The combined ages of her sons total a little more than 400 years. Mother, you must be getting old when you think of the ages of your boys. But no, those boys don't see it that way. They think of Mother as being in the prime of life, when she used to call them around her knees and give to them the good advice that only a mother can, and they have never forgotten the teachings of Mother. Long, trying years have passed, but still the memory of that teaching is engraved on their hearts, and they only think of Mother as they have always know her, as their best friend, and can only hope that her life may be prolonged for many more such occasions as that of October 23, 1927. Mother was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., October 23, 1827. She was married to John M. McCombs at Ringgold, GA, May 29, 1845. They emigrated to Texas in 1852 and lived at Round Grove, near Lewisville until 1889 when they moved to Fisher County where Father - God rest his soul - died April 29, 1898. It is not given to many men to be able to write of the celebration of their mother's one hundredth birthday, and therefore we fee that we are indebted very greatly to the Supreme Ruler for having prolonged her and our lives that we were able to witness this event so uncommon in the lives of men. Of those that did us the honor to be present from your city were Mr. and Mrs. G.T. Boyd and two sons, Joe and Garland, and a daughter; Sam Sigler and son, Fred. Mrs. Matilda Minor, Dale Purnell and son, Mrs. Nannie Holley and Arthur Cozby. >From Denton came the Honorable John Boyd, another cousin of ye writer, and who was making his first visit to this part of the state. We appreciated very much John coming, for it was the first time in nearly forty years that we had met him. John expressed himself as highly pleased with his visit, and we are hoping to see him as well as the others on a similar occasion. October 23, 1928. One of the boys, Note: Aunt Polly's name was Mary Francis Sigler McCombs. She was the daughter of Jacob Sigler and Rachel Worthington. Her husband was John Mathis (Mac) McCombs son of William McCombs and Mary Polly Nowlin.

    1. John B. Denton descendants can now register online
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Denton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hkB.2ACI/1628 Message Board Post: Descendants of John B. Denton, the pioneer preacher, lawyer and ranger militia captain for whom the city and county are named, can now register on the Internet for his 200th birthday party. The registration site is available from the main Web site at http://www.dentoncounty.com/dentondays/. “We especially would like descendants of John B. Denton to be our honored guests at the Friday opening ceremony, in the Saturday parade, and the Sunday morning re-enactment of the 1901 funeral service when he was re-interred on the courthouse lawn,” said Peggy Capps, chairman of the Denton County Historical commission, which is sponsoring the event. “Descendants have been calling because they’ve heard the news about the birthday celebration, and we hope this will help them plan their visit,” she said. The three-day event begins Friday, July 28, with a giant birthday cake and patriotic music on the lawn of the historic 1896 Courthouse on the Square in downtown Denton. In addition to the parade the next day, a quilt show at the nearby Denton Civic Center, a CASI-sanctioned chili cook-off, period re-enactors, crafts demonstrations, and performances of period music bring the 1840s to life on the courthouse lawn. Legendary Texas singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver caps off the Saturday entertainment later that evening. Local up-and-coming singer-songwriter Gary Kyle and his band will open the show. The festival wraps up Sunday with a historical reenactment of Denton’s final burial in 1901 — he had at least three — accompanied by an old-fashioned gospel quartet at Denton’s gravesite on the courthouse lawn. For more information, call 940-349-2830, or go to www.dentoncounty.com/dentondays on the Internet.
