The problem in not being able to find a death certificate might be that the county in question failed to file the death certificate in question. My grandfather died at home in 1923 in Celina, Collin Co., TX but there was no death certificate available. After several years of trying to get a copy through the State, I was in the Collin Co. Clerk's office. Walking down one of the isles, a very nondescript set of shelving got my attention and especially one three-ring notebook which I preceded to remove and examine. The first thing that jumped out at me was the notebook contained very old original copies of many death certificates. The next thing was finding my grandfather's missing death certificate.
