Hi. The underlining and hihglighting didn't transmit, but I will comment on the message and possibly clear up any confusion anyway. First let me explain the 1910 census. It lists age, sex, race, occupation, type of place of employment (if any), and birthplaces; it asks how many times each adult has been md. and how many years they have been md. to their current spouse. It also asked women how many children they had given birth to and how many of those children were still living (thus the 5). Having said that, under Occupation, A. D. listed simply "own income" instead of a job or retired, e.g. That was why I said he seemed to have done well - he was apparently living off his savings, not off the generosity of a son-in-law. (In fact, the son-in-law and family were living with him, not vice versa.) As for the marriages, he and his wife had each been md. only once (obviously then to each other) and for 46 yrs. The 5 children that she gave birth to were then presumably his, though men were not asked how many children they had fathered <grin>. I hope that clears up whatever the question was <smile>.
