Hi Bonnie, Yep, Dallas is in Dallas County. Texas began recording vital statistics, including births and deaths, at the state level in 1903. Births from 1903 to 1909 are in one alphabetical index. Beginning in 1910, each year is indexed separately. Birth Certificates become public after 50 years. And Death Certificates become public after 25 years. You'd have to be the registrant, or immediate family member either by blood or marriage, his guardian, or his legal representative to get them before they become available to the public. Hi Bill, Thanks so much for looking. I got the information from Rootsweb on the Texas death index and it had Dallas so I don't know if it was city or county. Is the city of Dallas,Tx. in Dallas County? I sent two fees to Texas for a birth and death certificate and haven't heard a word from them. They cashed my checks weeks ago. I believe he was born in 1906 in Texas. So I thought I would try for an obituary and maybe I could learn more about him.He was a RR. engineer I believe for Southern Pacific out of Oregon. When I have ordered other death certificates of A.C.Long's sisters and brother from Texas I got them very quick so I don't know what the problem is other than it might not be the right dates. Thank You for your efforts, Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, I couldn't find his obit in the archives of The Dallas Morning News: http://www.dallasnews.com/archive/ You can still try the Obituary Lookup Volunteers (they also have a mailing list): http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/ He died in Dallas County but he may have lived out of town. And his obituary may have been published there. His death certificate would tell you where he's buried. When I submitted my request for Mrs. I.C. Terrell's death certificate, I included the Transportation of Corpse document that showed she died in 27 Feb 1907 Dallas, TX at the address 115 Maple Ave. A Dr. J. H. Terrell signed the physician's certificate. But the state didn't have a death certificate. See below. Would the county have a copy? Thank you, Rochelle =========================================================== >It's possible that the county never filed a death certificate with us. >Record keeping in the early 1900's was not very consistent and some records >were not filed. I checked all our records from 1903-1940 and our delayed >records and was unable to locate a death certificate.
