Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZkB.2ACI/1967.1.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Over on Ft. Worth Ave. there used to be a MOON Courts and restaurant that had only one way inand one way out. I was told it was a hang out. Always wanted to go in there but never quite managed to. I heard there were hookers in there and there was gaming and so forth in the bar/restaurant. Do you know anything about that? And who can forget Campisi's Little Egyptian restaurant. The restaurant with the dancing puppets was called "Rudy's". I think the original Rudy is probably long dead by now. And don't forget Rocky Goldstein the guy who sold David Hinckley the nutcase the .22 he used to try and get President Reagan. Rocky moved his location from East Dallas somewhere else when his son David took over. I used to attend the same synagogue as the Goldsteins. My Dad helped Rocky run guns to Israel before it got its independence from Great Britian. Rocky as a good friend of my family's. It was rumored that "the family" used to own the Teak Restaurant", the old "Longhorn Ballroom" and the Debonair Danceland.... I LOVE Dallas and I miss it so much. My mom and dad met there. My Dad graduated from SMU there and was a cop in the Dallas Ft Worth Metroplex there for many years. My Dad got mad at my mother and so he got in a rigged poker game at the Carousel Lounge owned and operated by jack Ruby and lost the house that he had custom built for her in a night of gambling. She had fought with him and tried to shoot him with his own .45 and when she failed to get the safety off, she got mad and she threw it at him but it hit me. It seemed that she hated the house because it wasn't big enough so he lost it and the .45 in the poker game. I always wished he hadn't lost the .45 because I would have been proud to have carried it on duty myself years later. The false information she gave me trying to make her family out to be some sort of royality and supreme court justices, etc. caused me to mess up my genealogy research until I could find peopel who knew better. It makes me mad thinking that my Dad's old semi-auto might have been used to hurt an innocent person by some stupid hitman. I always heard stories about the "carpetmen/" The hitmen who woudl come to your house on the premise of delivering carpet that you won or something like that. Somehow, you would let them in and then they would shoot you and roll you up in the carpet and secure it and I can't remember if they would bury you on the Trinity River bottom or put you in a lake nearby. I heard stories that a lot of Dallas cops and deputies on the night shift adminstered "street justice" on the Trinity River bottom and that a lot of dead people in car trunks were in that river too. But since I never personally saw anything like that, it was just a urban legend.

I was told by my dad about the Balinese and other places on the piers at Galveston, before the crackdown that resulted in all of the gaming devices being taken out in the Bay and dumped overboard. He and friends frequented those spots in the 1930s. Of course, anyone that was raised in the DFW area during the 1930-70 period should be aware of all of the Jacksboro Hwy. shennanagins. In the 1920-40 period, there was also a group of bad guys in East Dallas, who were referred to as the Lakewood Rats. Fred

Go to www.rootsweb.com/~txkaufma there is all sorts of info there. I enumerated some cemeteries there (about 6) and you can see listings of the cemeteries, see a list of Civil War soldiers, all sorts of stuff. I also had some family that lived in Forney. When you are on the web page go down to where it mentions the Rootsweb message board and put up a posting about your family. You are bound to get some sort of response. Have fun!

She left behind a husband- Larkin Richard and three little boys. They were Temple Lee, Tillman Ferrell and Earnest Edward. Larkin moved the boys from Kaufman County, TX. to Lufkin, Texas and our families lost touch years ago. I am a genealogist and would love to meet them or their descendants. I have a lot of info on Susies family to share and pictures also. I recently found a posting from the daughter of Tillman- her name is Mildred. Her email address isn't good so I can't email her, but I got some clues from her posting. I never knew his middle name before then. I searched his full name and found he died in Dallas County in 1985 so chances are he still has family here. If any one knows any of the Richard descendants please email me. Thank you.
