Here is an addendum to my previous message about Snyder Kennedy. I just located a transcription of the Snyder Kennedy cemetery marker done by Tom Ellis, the Carrollton/Farmers Branch US GenWeb coordinator. <Looking for information about Snyder Kennedy who moved to Carrollton, TX from Pike Co., IL.> There is a marker in Carrollton where the cemetery used to exist for the Snyder Kennedy family. I visited it at one time since I am researching the family of James M. Kennedy who is buried at Webb Chapel Cemetery. I do not believe there is a connection between the two families. At the moment I cannot remember the street name where this marker is located. According to "Elm Fork Settlement: Farmers Branch and Carrollton" by Georgia Myers Ogle: "Three family cemeteries that were used many years, then maintained by descendants for a long time, but eventually succumbed undisturbed to an ever-expanding community were those of the Elisha Fyke family, the Lillard family, and the Snyder Kennedy family; though in the latter case, Mr. Kennedy's own gravestone was moved to Perry Cemetery." (Chapter 3, pg 44) "In the County Directory compiled by C. B. Gillespie and Alpha K. Work for 1881-82 and quoted by Cochran, 99 a complete picture is given for that time. Trinity Millis is located sixteen miles northwest of Dallas on the Dallas-Wichita Railroad. The remaining information is as follows: [snipped] Farmers: [snipped] Snyder Kennedy..." (Chapter 4, pg 127 If any of this family was still in the area after 1900, you might also be able to find information in the microfilms of the old Carrollton Chronicle Newspaper which are archived at the Frankford Village Branch of the Carrollton Public Library at the corner of Frankford and Josey Lane in Carrollton. They have films from 1904 till the newspaper ceased to exist. The Peters Colony Historical Society of Dallas County, Texas will be meeting at this library this evening, January 13, 2002 at 7p.m. Our speaker will be Curtis Flatt. His topic will be "The Hanging of 7 in 1869". He will also discuss some Peters Colony men/families and where they are buried and will answer questions about the 121 cemeteries in Dallas County that he has personally visited. Looking for information about Snyder Kennedy who moved to Carrollton, TX from Pike Co., IL.
Hello, Thank you so much for responding to my message. I don't know if I am related to those folks or not. My Spilman/Spillman family came to Dallas Co., TX from Allen Co., KY around 1870, and were descendants of Spilmans who settled in the Northern Neck of VA in the 1600's; those Spilmans came from England. My grandmother's mother was Lou Ann BUTLER, of Old Rocky Hill, Barren Co., KY, whose grandmother was Elizabeth HUFFMAN, who was a descendant of Spillmans who came from Germany. I have LOTS of information on the Spilman/Spillman family. Alida Spillman was the daughter of Mary Ann Anderson and Elijah SPILLMAN, also from Allen Co., KY. They came to Dallas Co. around 1850. I know lots of folks from that area of KY came to Dallas, Collin, Denton, and Grayson Counties, and it's possible that my Spillmans are related to the ones you mentioned. I'd love to know more about them. Thanks again, and have a wonderful weekend. Best wishes, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]
Hello, Alida Spillman was a distant cousin of my grandmother, and I'm trying to find some of her descendants. She married Benjamin Frank Bowser, son of Mary Bookwalter and David Bowser, 8 Jan 1878, in Dallas Co., TX. I'm told they had at least two children. I found them in 1880 and 1920 in Dallas Co., TX, but I can't find them in 1900 and 1910, when their cildren might have still been with them. Benjamin died in 1922 and Alida in 1947; they are buried in the Blewett Cemetery in Dallas. I believe Benjamin was the brother of Oliver P. Bowser, who was in business with a gentleman named Lemmon -- and I am assuming he was the gentleman Lemmon Ave. in Dallas was named after. If anyone has any information about these folks, please contact me. Thanks. Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX [email protected]
The January meeting of the Arlington Genealogical Society will be held Tuesday, 14 Jan 2003, at 6:30 PM in the Community Room in the basement of the Arlington Central Library. The speaker will be Kit Goodman of the UTA Special Collections. He will speak about the old maps collection at UTA, kinds of maps, migration routes, lost towns, etc. and what they can tell us. VISITORS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME http://www.rootsweb.com/~txags/ags.htm --
Is your Spillman family related to the Albert Kirkpatrick's (of Collin County), Terry's or the Verschoyle Family (of Dallas)? Happy Hunting, J. the state of TX didn't do an online index until 1964 records, so there's not one. and for obits, use google.com and search for the dallas morning news. i'm not sure how far back their online archives go. also check the dallas county genweb page, i think there are some old obit links on there. if you only have one or a few items to look up, search google for the tx state archives link, there will be a link to genealogy or a contact us link so that you could email a request for a death lookup. the limit is 5 at one time. good luck, anna [email protected] wrote:Anyway I could access an index to Dallas Co, Tx deaths, online for time period of 1931-1941? [email protected] Will look up deaths for you in the index of 1903-1940 >>that cover the years 1903-1940, 1941-1945, and 1946-1955 [searched]. Beginning with 1956 through 2000 (the latest one we >>have), each year is indexed separately.>> You need to give deceased's name, county (if known). They are very helpful. C. Hello Listers: I have a quandary........Today, on EBay, I saw a picture in the 1967 Stephenville High School Yearbook, that showed a bunch of students standing together in a large group, across the street from a house. Trees were all around the house. Does anyone know of this picture, or have access to the 1967 Year Book form Stephenville High School? Thanks in advance, Debi Harrington

Hi Stephanie, When? What time frame? Who was his wife? Do you know how many children he had? Do you have the name of any of his children? (And don't forget to phrase your answer in the form of a question.) TX Birth Index (1926-1997): Charles Alvin YOUNG, male, born 21 Jan 1927 in Tarrant County to Alvin C. YOUNG and Lugie PANNELL. Bobby Jack YOUNG, male, born 17 Dec 1932 in Tarrant County to Alvin C. YOUNG and Lue Ellen PANNELL. Michael Taylor YOUNG, male, born 6 June 1939 in Dallas County to Alvin Cecil YOUNG and Lue Ellen PUNNELL [Is this the right time frame? Because the TX Birth Index online begins with 1926, there were possibly other children born before Charles Alvin in 1927.] Bill Allen <[email protected]> Bertani21 wrote: > Looking for the decendents of Alvin C. Hello, Listers: My family originally started off in the following counties: Cass, Collin, Denton. The HARRINGTON's/WELLS -- Collin County. The EPPS -- Dave, Charlie, Amanda, Pat, settled in Collin county (Celina). (1870) The CRUTCHFIELD's hailed mainly from Denton County (Denton, Lewisville) -- James, George, David, Joe, Alvis. The HODGE's -- Martha, from Davis/Cass County (Linden). The HARE/HAIR/HAIRE's -- Davis/Cass County (Linden). The PEACE's -- Denton County (Denton) The WELLS -- Denton County (Prosper) The SIMS -- Collin County (Celina) All of my ancestors made their way to Dallas, TX, eventually, away from the farming areas of the above, especially after 1940's. My family is African-american. I'm still trying to pull the pieces of family together with birth/death dates, marriage names, etc. Looking forward to some great genealogy tips from any volunteers!
