Hi Folks, As my first post to the list I would like to know if anyone has any information on Thomas GARRARD or his wife Jane Wells (Cooke?). Tom Garrard was born in about 1829 in GA; Jane Wells about 1838 in TN. They were living in Gatesville at the 1860 (with one child) and 1870 Texas censuses - 1870: Garrard, Thomas, 41, M, W, drygoods merchant/$800, GA Wells, 31, F, W, keeping house, TN children Betty [Elizabeth], 12,F, W, TX John, 10, M, W, TX Sophronia, 8, F, W, TX Jessie, 4, F, W, TX. I believe Tom had a drygoods store in Gatesville. I have a feeling that his wife, Jane Wells, may have been a daughter of Augustus W. Cooke, an early settler and first surveyor of Robertson Co. who had a general store in old Franklin from about 1837. Tom "GIRARD", Mrs. Tom "Girard" a child were listed as victims of a "fever" epidemic that struck the area around Calvert in Robertson County in about 1873. Three children survived and were raised by people named Cooke (relatives?) John never married, died in Ellis Co. 1905 Sophronia Eudora (Dora) married Rufus McCain, settled in Ellis Co. Jessie married George Campbell in Robertson county. I will appreciate any help! Regards, Karen Trouvat ([email protected] 12 rue Seailles 77630 Barbizon, France .
